So suppose you navigate all those obstacles, and you and Janice got this thing working, and you have a social group that is loving and accepting, and you are both happy professionally, and all your friends are not LGBT or trans, and you decide to adopt. Because youre a couple. Then you face more challenges, first from schools, if they find out about Janice, then from other students parents, who tell their kids "billys mother was/is a man", and the other kids find out and make your son Billys life hell, for no reason other that they can. And now Billy learns the love and acceptance he sees at home doesnt extend past the front door, cuz society is a bitch.
