Friday, August 18.
Hozier.
Salutations. Singer, songwriter, and eternal dreamboat #hozier today bestows us with his latest immaculate release Unreal Unearth (2023), his first album in four years. And it's safe to say it has it all and then some: inspired by Dante's Inferno and the concept of the nine circles of hell, a love letter to Greek mythology and Irish folklore, drawn from his own experiences of the pandemic, and displaying his seemingly endless talent for everything from piano ballads to up-tempo folk-pop to fuzzy brash rock to funk and R&B to afrobeat. It's a case of you name it, he got it.
Naturally, the critics have gone bonkers for every one of its 62-minute running time—but frankly, we care not for the oppressive opinions of those in the expensive seats. What really matters is the fandom community. As luck would have it, there happens to be a rather formidable one here on Tumblr. Unreal Unearth is out today, at the very longest last, and it's something close to an unhealthy (affectionate) jubilation. Why not ~jubilate~ with us.

The popularity of ships like Aziraphael/Crowley and Ed/Stede makes so much sense because it’s the classic good boy meets bad boy except this time the bad boy is also a good boy, the good boy is insane actually, and both boys are middle aged men

Something something the way that Crowley introduced himself to Aziraphale the first time they met in the garden and reacted as if they had never met before. Something about him later behaving as if he did actually have those memories of their time in Heaven together and trying to pass it off as being someone different now. Something about Heaven's way of punishing angels that go against the plan by erasing their memories. Something about Crowley seeing Gabriel without his memory and saying "ask him properly." Something about "remember it now" "it hurts, to remember. my head isn't built for that" "I know. Do it anyway"
Something about "I know. Looking at where the furniture isn't"
Something about I know

this feels like a good time to say that when I was a teenager I went to hear Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman talk about Good Omens the book (I know! I know!!!) and they said that one of their favourite things about writing it together is that it brought their two fandoms together and caused all the terry fans and the neil fans to hook up. So suddenly they started seeing all these couples where one was a skinny goth Gaiman nerd and one was jolly fat little Pratchett nerd. “And,” said Terry, “they looked like lots of number 10s walking down the street together!”
and now I realise that of course Az and Crowley are the ultimate number-10-in-human-form couple.
