Bill Henson
Apparently there is something about the name Bill, because I am always intrigued and influenced by Australian contemporary photographer, Bill Henson, as well. Again, I love his work for the religious references, the lighting, the intensity created through chiaroscuro and other lighting, through composition, materials, the models, and the setting. I also love the way in which he somehow manages to get such a painterly effect through a camera lens!
The page I made for my ‘personal’ account of now displays a photograph of my sister, taken through an aeroplane-shaped lens - the lighting, movement, and direction was inspired by Henson’s work.

Bill Viola
One artist I am constantly inspired and influenced by is Bill Viola. Viola is a contemporary video artist, with his work centred around the fundamental human experiences. I love the dramatic feel of his pieces - they often have a renaissance feel about the way they are composed, and I love the intensity that is created through Viola’s choice of materials.

Haiku
For my poetry I decided to use Haiku poetry, which consists of three lines, with the first and last lines having five syllables, and the middle having seven. I chose Haiku because of its swiftness and its length, and also because I am constantly attempting to plan travel to Japan.

(This snapshot was from the week 12 Reflections slide, sam 2, 2017)
For my piece on passion, I was inspired by Agatha Gothe-Snape. I first wrote out ‘art’ multiple times on a lined piece of paper, gradually writing harder, faster, and with bigger strokes as I went on, to allude to the way in which I sometimes feel when creating artworks. I then took a photo of this and edited it, and then placed a block of text on top. This text was created through a similar process to what Gothe-Snape used in the picture above. I first wrote ‘art’, and from there on in I wrote the succeeding word that came to mind, based on the preceding word.
Also, in reference to my audio of President Trump, this is where I sourced it:

Note: I am sorry but my Pinterest inspiration photos are not referenced with the actual owner of the photograph.

My 3 P’s
My Political: I chose to portray through photography the concept of nuclear weaponry. My audio included a recording of President Trump speaking about the matter, with my own voice placed over the top as I was reading out the protest poster that I had made (which is featured on the cover of our magazine). Nuclear weaponry is something that is important to me right ‘now’, because I have actually been accepted into the Army Reserves and have currently put my application on hold, as I am undetermined on whether or not to go through with it. The notion that we may very well be in a nuclear third world war is unsettling, but should not deter in one’s pursuance of their goals. I believe the thing here though, is that nobody truly understands just how incredibly powerful these weapons are that man himself has created, or the repercussions of their detonation.
My personal: I chose to take a photo of my sister through a cut-out of an aeroplane. Over the weekend she returned from a month long mission trip to Thailand, and just a few weeks ago I was blessed enough to be in New Zealand. For me, right ‘now’, travel is a large part of my life. It is important to me that I explore the world, immersing myself in different cultures, and doing wild and crazy things.
My Passion: It is the same as it has always been throughout my whole life; art. Art is not just something I do, I am a work of art. Creativity is what drives what I do, every day of my life. It influences the way I think, the way I feel, the way I dress, the way I speak, the way I act. Art is my ‘now’, my past, and my future.

WHY now?
According to the dictionary, the definition of ‘now’ is: “at the present time or moment; without further delay; immediately; at once; at this time or juncture in some period under consideration”
How have we, as a group, decided to define ‘now’?
Our group decided to look at the transient nature of the moment that is now (for now is not more than this very moment in history). ‘Now’ is a moment that constitutes what we experience in the present minute. It is a moment in flux. It cannot truly be held, it can never be relived, and it cannot fully be remembered. We explored this notion through the medium of long exposure photography, and minimal print. The use of long exposure explores in a visual way the ever-changing perspective and look of ‘now’, visually exploring the concept of movement. What is right ‘now’ is ephemeral and unique - each moment of ‘now’ is exclusive to each individual, thus there cannot really be a true concept of ‘now’. What one experiences now in Australia may, understandably, be quite contradictory with what someone in Africa is experiencing right now.
In order to explore this transient and unique perspective of ‘now’, we decided that we would like to create an interactive, magazine-inspired catalogue/booklet. In doing this, we each examined three notions of what we perceive to be our individual ‘now’, through the three categories of Political, Personal, and Passion. We chose to individually look at what we perceive to be as ‘now’ so as to pertain to the idea of an individual perspective, which again in itself is transient. Through this we intended to show that ‘now’ is multifaceted,   and cannot be defined simply by one understanding or mindset.
We decided that to enhance the work, we would add in a recorded sound for each of our pages. For the most part, these sounds were recorded by us, and reflect directly the time the photographs were taken (at least for most of them, bar some). Essentially then, these sounds reflect the ‘now’ of the past;  the ‘now’ of past as we experienced it as the ‘now’ of the present.
So what do the three P’s allude to?
Political: We chose to look at a political entity that we each individually believe to be a current predicament in the world, selecting a dilemma that we resonated with on a personal level. The political world is often seen as being corrupt, yet it is what holds the rest of the world together (and in fact, is what also tears it apart).
Personal: We then chose to examine our own current individual lives, representing through a photograph something that is important to us ‘right now’, for whatever reason that may be. This again highlighted how distinct each of our lives are - even though we share a good few common factors, our lives and our perspective of the world are so diverse.
Passion: Again, to explore further the notion that ‘now’ is unique to everybody, we explored current life on earth through examining our personal passions - what drives us currently into the future, which soon will become our ‘now’, and what motivates us. Again this enhances the concept of individualism.

Experimental pictures.
For my ‘personal’ p I wanted to explore travel, as when I went back home over the weekend my sister had returned from Thailand, so at that moment of ‘now’ my life was effected by travel. Travel is something that is also personally very important to me in the broader sense of my ‘now’ (i.e. this time in my life when I am young, single, and able to travel quite easily). I cut out a picture of an aeroplane in cardboard and placed it in front of my sister’s face as I shone a light at her, in order to get the effect of the moving plane. For my ‘passion’ p I thought of painting my hands or face (I did both!) but I also painted my sister’s hands and face! I didn’t like the outcome though so I didn't use them.

I was going to use a picture of myself playing tennis for my personal shot, however I didn't like the way the photos turned out.

Today I went out with my friend to take some ‘protest poster’ shots. This relates to my political p, which for me is about nuclear war and weaponry. We have decided to use long exposure photography to capture movement, alluding to the flux of every single moment, of ‘now’.

Nuclear weaponry and war

I have been researching some information regarding the nuclear weaponry of the world, and the current wars that are in progression. The number of deaths are sickening, and the extent to which nuclear weaponry can destroy life on earth is ridiculous.
