maybe a crazy take idk but i dont actually think many scenes in stories are 'unneccesary' i think they just make people uncomfortable and rather than try to understand the significance of that discomfort and why the author mightve deliberately inflicted it, decide that discomfort = bad, therefore that scene + the author are both bad

my thing with dungeon meshi yaoi and yuri is that time and time again the excuse for not caring about w/w ships is that the women were badly written, not present in the narrative, boring, etc etc etc. and the men were more interesting! but now we have a show where no only are the women extremely well written and nuanced and interesting, often filling niches that a bunch of people said only men had filled (fucked up, morally grey, violent and nasty and human etc) AND the narrative itself focus on the bonds between these two women and how that is one of the main motivations of the entire premise.

and yet people are more interested in exploring their mid woobified yaoi that isnt even half as interesting as the w/w
