Great news everyone. There was a kitten wandering in the drive thru at work and my inner warrior cats kid tried to be a hero and capture him.
I have now suffered multiple puncture wounds and have to go to the emergency room.

Love how tumblr has its own folk stories. Yeah the God of Arepo we’ve all heard the story and we all still cry about it. Yeah that one about the woman locked up for centuries finally getting free. That one about the witch who would marry anyone who could get her house key from her cat and it’s revealed she IS the cat after the narrator befriends the cat.

WINCHESTER FAMILY GENETICS (or, perfect casting is perfect)
EYE COLOR: Both sons have color-shifting hazel eyes from John, tending toward green for both.
EYE SHAPE:  Sam’s eyes are narrower (“hooded”) from his father.  Dean’s eyes are larger and almond-shaped from his mother.  Even the lash line is similar.
NOSE: Sam has his father’s nose, even the nostrils are the same.  While Dean has his mother’s nose shape, the structure of his nose (in profile) is closer to his father’s.
CHIN: Clefted, both sons from their father.
HAIR: Imagine John’s hair without any product in it, with some length on it, and you’d probably have “Sam” hair on both.  While Dean isn’t currently blond like his mother, he was portrayed as having dirty blond hair at age 4 in the pilot.  And not just that, but toddler Dean had longer hair that appeared to be the same texture as his mother’s.  By the time we see young Dean in flashbacks again, at age 10, his hair had gone darker, but he’s still fair-haired like his mother.
JAWLINE: Sam actually has his mother’s jawline, whereas Dean is square-jawed like his father.  Dean’s over all face structure is, in fact, very similar to his father’s.
BROW RIDGE:  Sam’s pronounced brow ridge (Gabriel described it as “Cro-Magnon”) is from his father, while Dean’s lack thereof is from his mother.  Sam’s is more pronounced than his father’s, which could be hand-waved as the demon blood making him “big and strong.”
CHEEKBONES: Sam has his mother’s wide cheekbones, while Dean’s high cheekbones are obviously from his father.
FOREHEAD:  Sam has John’s higher forehead, while Dean’s lower forehead appears to be from his mother.
LIP DIVOT (I know there’s a more accurate name for it, but I can’t think of it): Both sons from John.
LIPLINE: Sam has John’s wide, slightly thin-lipped mouth while Dean directly inherited his mother’s full mouth and the more pronounced bow of the upper lip.
COMPLEXION: Sam has his father’s darker complexion, while Dean is fair-skinned like his mother.  Though the make-up staff would have you believe, from season 5 onward, that he’s naturally tan at all times.  Don’t get me started.
Unexplained:
HEIGHT/BODY DIFFERENCES: Dean is within the height spectrum if you consider Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s height, but he’s slightly taller than Matt Cohen.  Sam’s height could’ve been due to the demon blood fortifying him as well, though the show has never mentioned it.  (It certainly didn’t give Ava or Andy that kind of boost.)  Would it kill them to have someone say, “You’re gigantic like John’s dad” or something?
DEAN’S FRECKLES: This could be dismissed as a lack of thorough makeup coverage were in not for the fact that the actor chosen to play Dean at age 10 had them (Ridge Canipe), and it seemed that this was an intentional choice for casting (i.e., the flashback morphing Jensen’s face into Ridge’s).  Neither parent has them.  Freckles can fade over time (it’s believable that Dean was more freckled when he was younger than now), but since Dean (like Jensen) is in his early 30s and still has at least a few, they must be from elsewhere in the genetic line.
The differences/similarities between the two boys and their father as portrayed by Jeffrey Dean Morgan would need to take up its own post.  The issue is that the John Winchester shown in 1978 (Matt Cohen) is nowhere near to being as rough and dangerous looking as the John Winchester we see in 1983 (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).  Keep in mind that Jeffrey Dean Morgan, at his actual age, would’ve been Dean’s 12-year old father, and some hair and make-up magic had to happen to make his character appear old enough to play the boys’ father in the present timeline.
On that note, Jeffrey Dean Morgan as a young man looked a hell of a lot like Jensen.
So there you go: Brothers, after all.  No mailman involved.  This has always led me to interesting theories involving John superimposing hopes onto Sam because Sam resembles him, and certain other hopes onto Dean (who resembles his mother).  Not to mention the reason that Dean has “delicate features for a hunter.”  Delicate features for anyone, really.  ;-)

Good Traits Gone Bad
Exploring good traits gone bad in a novel can add depth and complexity to your characters. Here are a few examples of good traits that can take a negative turn:
1. Empathy turning into manipulation: A character with a strong sense of empathy may use it to manipulate others' emotions and gain an advantage.
2. Confidence becoming arrogance: Excessive confidence can lead to arrogance, where a character belittles others and dismisses their opinions.
3. Ambition turning into obsession: A character's ambition can transform into an unhealthy obsession, causing them to prioritize success at any cost, including sacrificing relationships and moral values.
4. Loyalty becoming blind devotion: Initially loyal, a character may become blindly devoted to a cause or person, disregarding their own well-being and critical thinking.
5. Courage turning into recklessness: A character's courage can morph into reckless behavior, endangering themselves and others due to an overestimation of their abilities.
6. Determination becoming stubbornness: Excessive determination can lead to stubbornness, where a character refuses to consider alternative perspectives or change their course of action, even when it's detrimental.
7. Optimism becoming naivety: Unwavering optimism can transform into naivety, causing a character to overlook dangers or be easily deceived.
8. Protectiveness turning into possessiveness: A character's protective nature can evolve into possessiveness, where they become overly controlling and jealous in relationships.
9. Altruism becoming self-neglect: A character's selflessness may lead to neglecting their own needs and well-being, to the point of self-sacrifice and burnout.
10. Honesty becoming brutal bluntness: A character's commitment to honesty can turn into brutal bluntness, hurting others with harsh and tactless remarks.
These examples demonstrate how even admirable traits can have negative consequences when taken to extremes or used improperly. By exploring the complexities of these traits, you can create compelling and multi-dimensional characters in your novel.
Happy writing!

the inflection is exactly the same. I have been thinking about this for an hour. was this on purpose or is this just how people are naturally compelled to say these words in this order (via @biderverse on X/Twitter)

Bryan Lee O'Malley remarking that he had Scott explicitly spell out that his relationship with Knives was inappropriate in Scott Pilgrim Takes Off because he feels like a lot of the comic's readers maybe didn't pick up on that is very funny not only because how do you not, but also because the original Scott Pilgrim comics are some of the most didactic media I've ever read outside of, like, medieval Christian allegories about the wages of sin. It's just constantly explaining to the reader exactly why Scott is a bad person, sometimes with little annotated diagrams. Genuinely, what's it gonna take for the twentysomething male audience not to idolise a loser?

Love the argument "oh but if you transition you'll have to deal with being trans your whole life" because first of all there is nothing bad about being trans and second I'm still gonna be trans even if I don't medically transition I'll just be trans and miserable instead of trans and happy
