How does your warden feel (not think) abt Loghain?

Conscripting Loghain
It has nothing to do with replenishing the Warden’s ranks. If so, Riordan would’ve recruited/conscripted Zevran(an assassin), Oghren(depressed berserk), or Sten(a murderer) without losing Alistair. He would have had four wardens on the battlefield. But he insisted on conscripting Loghain and didn’t take his offer back even when Alistair threatened to leave (leaving them with the initial number:three wardens )
I have a headcanon that my warden felt the impending doom after this scene. She knew that death was awaiting them. Riordan was using Loghain to save the new recruites lives (Loghain who was already a dead man, given the high treason multiple accusations and civil war involvement, he was going to get executed if not by your hands, then by other noble’s hands)
It’s not abt numbers, it’s not abt being pragmatic! At the moment he suggests recruiting Loghain, Riordan couldn’t be more sentimental! He wanted to make the man who closed the borders (and didn’t allow the older Wardens to come in in time to slay the archdemon)face his responsability. Riordan wanted to save the young wardens (you & Alistair) Riordan wasn’t Duncan! I’m ready to bet he joined the wardens willingly and wasn’t a conscripted murderer&thief like Duncan! And I’m glad he didn’t slay the archdemon and had a normal death (not a destroy your soul one) after he cut one of the Archdemon wings, forcing it to land on Fort Drakon’s roof and thus made the task easier for the Warden.

Glad I’m not the only one who keeps up with Bodahn’s juicy gossip lol! He didn’t simply hang the hunters from Oswin, he literally crusified them, left them to die slowly from hunger & thirst...But in this I cannot accuse Howe, bc those hunters attacked Loghain’s men, set their tents on fire when they were sleeping (aka burned his men alive) so Loghain’s retaliation had to be a hard lesson fr anyone who wd want to harm his troops. Loghain’s a general after all not a ballet teacher. And them being from Oswin (his father’s hometown) shows he doesn’t care abt your origins, if you oppose him or if he sees u as a threat (tis why I never believed the “he’s racist!” or that he wd like your warden more if they’re noble bs!)
Loghain and Howe
Anora accusing Loghain of trying to murder her/take her throne: Loghain explains that it was merely a smart political move from Anora to gain the Warden’s support and trust. He insists that her life was never in danger. Since Anora has a scheming /manipulative reputation, the Warden has no reason to question this. Adding to this the fact that she can support Loghain at the Landsmeet (if the warden doesn’t promise her their support for her claim to the throne)
What both Anora and Loghain aren’t confessing to the Warden is how much power Howe had over Loghain. Anora didn’t think for a second her father was going to kill her, but she overheard Howe suggesting it and it seems that she knew that Loghain’s “No” meant nothing. He was Howe’s bitch, now. Because in other circumstances he would’ve ripped out the guy’s tongue after suggesting to kill his daughter but he just said: “No”! Howe, The monstrous servant. He, by the end, had totally over-powered/over-smarted Loghain while still calling him “sire” and “regent”, bowing low before him, just for show. And Loghain knew it, so did Anora who didn’t trust that her father was able to protect her anymore.
The slavery thing seems to have Howe’s signature all over it, yet, the tevinter blood mage says “One can hardly get a word out of Regent Loghain besides “Warden” these days. It surpassed even “gold” in popularity.“ Words implicating that he’s been “hanging out” with Loghain, having drinks, and sharing thoughts…Really? A borderline xenophobic, paranoid character such as Loghain confessing his worries to a foreign blood mage? It’s more likely that a third party, a “common friend” was gossiping to him about Loghain, making him look obsessed and out of his mind. Loghain won’t confess before the nobles nor the Warden. Imagine him saying: “I was forced to agree!”, adds mockery to disdain. But he kinda justifies it firmly, in fact, in the first conversation the warden has with him, they get the most aggressive answer from him when they mention slavery! although, the man is obviously making efforts to stay diplomatic and polite. Yet when slavery is mentioned he snaps and calls the warden by their race, calls them egotistical, and stresses the fact that slave trading doesn’t keep him up at night lol! then it escalates to Loghain accusing them of sabotaging the arming of their troops and maybe causing their future defeat. This made me so disappointed in him at first, then now, after many years, I can say that his reaction was of a man triggered by the subject. Selling bodies, making gold out of ppl’s flesh: dishonorable level 100, and not different from a pimp. Even the ones buying slaves have always looked down on the ones selling them! Slavery is also him being far worse than any orlesian lord, being a hypocrite and a weak man, a farmer’s son unfit for politics and who allowed Howe to twist his arm, making him sign whatever document he wanted him to sign. By the time the warden reaches him, Loghain was already defeated by no other than himself. He had always seen himself as the one shielding the foolish Maric. His ego crumbled as he found out he wasn’t as smart as he thought and that Maric was the one shielding him all this time from what the true nobility would have done to him! He can blabber all he wants about Cailan and Alistair (Maric too probably) being “idiots” but the Theirins were his idiots. Howe made him into his bitch in less than a year and Loghain found out that he IS the IDIOT , a brutish, villainous one in addition. Thus, I believe he regrets what he did to Cailan.
Finally, I think that Loghain lost so miserably because he was trying to be someone he’s not. He can play it as cool as he wants but he’ll never be a true noble with no remorse nor conscience, like Howe, Vaughan, Eamon, and almost all of them (even his Anora who grew up among them). Maric, and probably Cailan, knew this, Loghain learned it in his one year as a regent.

“I think also Howe was supplying Loghain with alcohol to manipulate him “ I’ve never thought abt this from this angle! but it could be 100% true..Plus the hiring Zevran scene reveals how reluctant Loghain is toward co-operating with foreigners=>Which makes the whole working with tevinter slavers and giving them a free pass & base in the capital hard to believe. Loghain would’ve never done this...But how to sell himself to the Landsmeet nobles as a capable regent if he confesses that Howe used his seal,(or forced his hand) sold ppl in his name & kept the gold to himself...He’d be a joke, so he chose to better be a slaver than a joke

Yes, Howe was a very vain & ambitious man.He thought highly of himself and his bloodline. He saw himself as better and more worthy than the Couslands, so imagine what he was thinking about the peasant (Loghain) and his daughter who got not one single drop of noble blood.Howe wanted the throne and Anora knew it.I ignore if Loghain was oblivious/in denial to this or he still thought he was able to keep using Howe as an ally then outmanoeuvre him after the Landsmeet(which he wdn’t have been able to do anyway)  Loghain was simply overconfident in his plans bc all his life he has been an undefeated general & best strategist in Thedas and put himself in a position where he cldn’t say no to Howe
I personally don’t think Nate is Loghain’s son, bc Loghain speaks very badly of Alistair insisting on the use of “bastard”as insult, if he had one he wd’ve reconsidered bc unlike Maric, Loghain loves his children and wd love them no matter who the mother is. Besides, according to Nate, his mother and her family were very snobbishly nobles (more than Howe himself) this woman wd’ve preferred to die than let a peasant (loghain) touch her.imho

Loghain and the "Warrior women fetish"
Important note: This is MY opinion about a fictional character who DOESN'T EXIST
First of all: It isn't a sexual fetish, but an unconscious reaction to what happened to his mother. If he had more authority, he would force every woman in the country to become a warrior.
Unlike Maric, Loghain is turned off by the overly feminine "damsel in distress"  type, because he saw first hand what could happen when a woman is delicate, attractive and helpless, and also bc he doesn't see himself as a savior nor a hero.
But he has an exclusively female guards team! I suspect the writers were just hinting at what some 3rd world dictators do: (they have female bodyguards, bc they're less likely to backstab them for power or jealousy) =That's why I still think Loghain's accidentally well-written, they kept piling lots of crap and it ended adding up well together to paint a complex portrait.
So yeah, he likes women who are more feared than coveted by men, the idea comforts him! But what he likes in bed is left to the player's imagination and headcanon. Although, I personally think he would likely be controlling and dominant, bc in order to beat the orlesians, he had to become them in many ways whether he knows/likes it or not and it shows thru his actions in DAO (u know stare into the abyss and it stares back blablabla) it's a bit like the wardens who ingest the taint in order to fight darkspawns.
He also seems to have little compassion toward the weak and helpless (it’s his main problem with city elves, not their race), so yeah, imho he identified with the aggressor more than with his m..the victim.

This is also part of the answer to the “why is he still in such a good shape at his age?”
