When Did Comics Start?
There are many dates forwarded for the date of the first comic, the first ever book with pictured depicting a story appeared in 1837 while the first weekly comic strips appeared in newspapers in 1896, these strips were accumulated and reprinted into the first comic book in 1928, however the golden age of comics started in 1938 with the first appearance of Superman in Action Comics #1. Superman’s appearance in Action Comics #1 marks the introduction of the first ever super hero comics and marked the beginning of the golden age of comics that lasted until 1950.

During the golden and silver age of comics it was common practise to have comics arranged in a grid format often with of 6 or 9 comic panels arranged with equidistant with clean white gutters separating them. As comics have evolved writers and artists have pushed the boundaries of there work. With new comics sprouting up in Europe and Japan they brought with then new techniques and ways of thinking.
