For references, would it be considered plagirising if you used a photo, lowered the opacity and used the picture to block out masses and correct the general shape? Because for this piece, I drew a character playing the cello, and that's the method I used. I feel like it's just tracing though and it makes me feel like a fake artist???
Being in college right now, we’re constantly hammered over the head about plagiarism, plagiarism, plagiarism. And with good reason! Plagiarism is the deceitful practice of trading off someone’s work as your own and thus reaping the benefits from it.
I searched Google about the legalities behind tracing, the first result showed me this article by Kiffanie Stahle and it boils down to about three points according to Kiff:
“To decide a course of action, we’d talk through three things:
Is the source imagery protectable under the Copyright Act?
Did you copy the source imagery?
Did your copying rise to the level of an infringement?”
(Stahle, Kiffanie. “Is it legal to trace source imagery?” the artist’s J.D., https://theartistsjd.com/trace-source-imagery/)
The article helps give further detail in breaking down these points to help you better understand, so if anyone else is in a similar position to you OR does trace and would like to know more about that, check out the rest of the article. It’s not too dense if you were expecting it to be some thick, legal jargon.
Coming back now to your specific situation though, here’s my personal hot take: it’s not plagiarizing. You said you already drew out the piece, and now you’re just having some trouble with the anatomy. So long as you’re not planning to redo the entire thing as one big tracing, I believe it would be safe to say you are allowed to correct your anatomy if you have a reference photo that can help.
Though before doing that!! I don’t know if this is the method you were planning to use, but I have a suggestion on how you can maybe go about this so that it A) is less direct tracing onto the picture and B) helps you to practice anatomy. I know it’s a bit tedious to do it this way, but I believe it will actually look more natural when implemented into your piece.
Have you seen this post before? Because it is an incredible practice that can help many folks who are just learning anatomy!

(Sarah. “Rise - Pose Reference for Artists” SenshiStock, https://www.deviantart.com/senshistock/art/Rise-Pose-Reference-for-Artists-631564589)
Tumblr media
It is a very valid means of practicing and improving your anatomy. By trying to work backwards and break down the anatomy into more defined shapes that you can build from (I suggest using way more construction than I had so you can develop an even better understanding of the form) then you are gaining better knowledge of how to draw better!
In addition to this ask, there was another anonymous message received that I felt was similar to this one/was relevant to this ask too…
Tumblr media
I think the answer to this lies within the three questions posed: “Is the source imagery protectable under the Copyright Act?Did you copy the source imagery?Did your copying rise to the level of an infringement?”
While I suggest to you to maybe perform the same method I demonstrated above (as yes, it can apply to gesture posing too!) I believe that you may want to just be careful of where the source comes from (to see what the copyright is on the images you are using), how much inspiration or tracing you plan to take away from the reference, and if you plan on merchandising the final product.
I hope this was helpful, thank you for asking!

I’m bad at keeping up with social media.. I recently went to Oklahoma (I live in Maine) and had to visit the Museum of Osteology! Here’s a few photos. I need a megaloceros :D But it was really cool as someone interested in zoology and comparative anatomy. I took hundreds of photos for drawing references, some rare animals can be really hard to find references of.

Some Photoshop Tips
I’ve been getting quite a few asks about the process for the patterns in my stylized artworks, so I decided to put together a couple of tips regarding them.
Firstly, what you need are
—  CUSTOM BRUSHES  —
Most of the patterns I use are custom brushes I made, such as those:
Tumblr media
For the longest time I was convinced making brushes must be super extra complicated. I was super extra wrong. All you need to start is a transparent canvas (2500px x 2500px max):
Tumblr media
This will be your brush tip. When you’re satisfied how it looks, click Ctrl+A to select the whole canvas and go to ‘define brush preset’ under the edit menu
Tumblr media
You will be asked to name your new glorious creation. Choose something that describes it well, so you can easily find it between all the ‘asfsfgdgd’ brushes you’ve created to be only used once
Tumblr media
This is it. Look at it, you have just created a photoshop brush. First time i did I felt like I was cheated my whole life. IT’S SO EASY WHY HASN’T ANYONE TOLD ME
Tumblr media
Time to edit the Good Boi to be more random, so it can be used as a Cool Fancy Pattern. Go into brush settings and change whatever you’d like. Here’s a list of what I do for patterns:
- under Shape Dynamics, I increase Size Jitter and Angle jitter by 5%-15%
- under Brush Tip Shape, I increase spacing by a shitload. Sometimes it’s like 150%, the point is to get the initial brush tip we painted to be visible.
- If I want it to look random and noisy, I enable the Dual Brush option, which acts like another brush was put on top of the one we’ve created. You can adjust all of the Dual Brush options (Size, Spacing, Scatter, Count) as you wish to get a very nice random brush to smear on your  backgrounds
Tumblr media
The result is as above. You can follow the same steps to create whatever brush you need: evenly spaced dots that look like you painted them by hand, geometric pattern to fill the background, a line of perfectly drawn XDs and so on.
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE
—  PATHS  —
But what if you want to get lots of circles made of tiny dots? Or you need rows of triangles for your cool background? Photoshop can do all of that for you, thanks to the magic of paths.
Typically, paths window can be found right next to Layers:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Draw whatever path you want, the Shape Tool has quite a bit of options. Remember, paths are completely different from brush strokes and they won’t show up in the navigator. To move a path around, click A to enable path selection tool. You can use Ctrl+T to transform it, and if you move a path while pressing Alt it will be duplicated.
Tumblr media
Now, pick a brush you wish really was in place of that path you’ve drawn and go to layers, then choose the layer you want it to be drawn on. Then, click this tiny circle under the Paths window:
Tumblr media
Then witness the magic of photoshop doing the drawing for you while you wonder how tf have you managed to forget about this option for the past 2 years
Tumblr media
You can combine special brushes and paths for all sorts of cool effects. I mostly use them in backgrounds for my cards, but you can do whatever you want with them.
Tumblr media
I hope that answers the questions for all of the people who were sending me inquires about the patterns. If you have any questions regarding this or any other Photoshop matter feel free to message me, I’m always up for complaining about how great and terrible Photoshop is C’:

It's even more grim since Gwendolyn is being eaten alive as you go through the boss fight. So there's still some aspect of him feeling it too.

Inktober 16. Aldrich
“When Aldrich ruminated on the fading of the fire, it inspired visions of a coming age of the deep sea. He knew the path would be arduous, but he had no fear. He would devour the gods himself.”

short hairstyles for women/butches
note: don’t know who these are for the most part! they might be gay, i just found them on google images. also this isn’t a ranked list i just like numbers
1. tapered and long
Tumblr media
the top two are probably the best approximation of this cut. i like it because it’s floofy but you don’t necessarily have to have curls to pull it off
2. bowl cut pixie
Tumblr media
ngl i thought i wasn’t going to like this but i’m actually a huge fan. gives me kind of edgy lisbeth salander vibes. this would be a really good way for femmes to flag too because it’s kinda off center of straight fashion
3. buzzcut
Tumblr media
a classique and sexie look. buzzcuts looks rly good when they’re dyed if you’re into that (i especially love obnoxiously bright colours). if we’re doing characters, this reminds me of furiosa obviously and we all know she’s a lesbian legend
4. undercut
Tumblr media
i’m obsessed with undercuts. it looks so so cute with curly hair or straight hair. i also like how it can be really soft or really severe depending on how you style it. it’s also super androgynous
5. short shag
Tumblr media
terrible name but a super cute haircut. it’s softer than some of the other ones i have listed if that’s what you’re into. looks cute with curly or straight hair. gives me a bit of baby butch vibes.
6. pompadour
Tumblr media
love it! classic! that janelle monae look? beautiful. it lengthens your face if that sweetens the deal for anyone. very dependable and handsome butch look. would highly recommend.
7. curly mohawk
Tumblr media
this hairstyle is VERY important to me as a gay because it makes women look beautiful. the top right girl is literally my dream girl. also you can style it soft or really punk which is super hot.
8. random pics of women i found
Tumblr media
wow i fuckign. i just love women! look at that! we really do short hair well ladies! thanks for reading my post i hope you enjoyed
