"I can't hate any piece of media because it took so long to make and people worked so hard on it!!!!" do you hear yourself?? Do you not feel braindead from all the toxic positivity??? tell that to with any person who's actually written a book/comic or helped create a movie/tv show and they will laugh you out the room
“Booktok just enjoys turning off their brain and reading, it’s like watching bad reality tv.” Except it’s not. We all make fun of bad reality shows but booktok romanticizes the poor portrayal of romance and abuse in their books.
“How spicy is it? I need spice.”
Half of it is filled with “🌽” addicts, but because it’s not visual it doesn’t seem like it. If erotica is your thing, that’s great, but let’s not pretend like it hasn’t irrecoverably messed up people by the way authors have inserted it into every damn teen girls book. If the only reason you can enjoy a book is smut, then that needs to be addressed. I will die on this hill.
My biggest disappointment at the beginning of the year was discovering the dark romance genre thinking I was going to read Hannibal and Will type relationships, and instead all I found was a bunch of women being abused by tattooed, black-haired, green-eyed guys with a sad past.
Don't even get me started on the entire Fire family line or even Jet. Some things aren't just black and white. There were whole episodes on it that the ATLA fandom just conveniently ignores
Some Atla fans are deeply unwilling to engage with the fact that their beloved series may bear the marks of being written by two white men in the early 2000s. They can’t conceive that the show might’ve been anything less than perfect and that there are certain problematic elements within it that are consistently overlooked by the fandom at large.
