SAFA  Select Training Game: Sunday 31 October
Tumblr media
Scottish Amateur FA Select: Training Match Sunday 31 October
It is an absolute delight to confirm that this coming Sunday, 31st October, Colin MacLeod, our Scottish Amateur FA Select Manager, will host his first squad get-together in over 18 months.
That Colin has been able to schedule a practice game, the first since early March 2020, may be another indicator our Amateur game is slowly edging back towards near normality.
Colin and his backroom staff look forward to welcoming the players to Dalziel Park in Motherwell. It is their intention to play a closed-door match between two sides selected from those attending.
Covid restrictions, of course, will very much be in place. Regrettably, it is important to stress, no spectators will be allowed within the pitch compound at Dalziel. Those familiar with Dalziel Park, however, will know the surrounding embankments do afford some limited viewing.
David Ramage, Chairman of the Scottish Amateur FA International Committee, is also pleased to confirm all of Colin’s Backroom Team, have agreed to continue with their roles within the Select set-up. Colin will again be supported by Stephen Reynolds (Assistant Manager), Craig Tully (Coach), Derek Jackson (Goalkeeping Coach), Joe Walker (Kit Manager) and Ronan Murray (Physiotherapist).
Almost from the second the most stringent of the Covid restrictions were lifted, and the current season finally got underway, Colin and his support staff have been watching as many games as possible. And, Colin has been using his extensive contacts network to receive reports and form updates from a plethora of managers and coaches.
The latest squad includes a core of players from the March 2020 friendly versus Shotts Bon Accord, the last time the Select was able to meet. Inevitably, given the time that has since lapsed, there are a number of ‘new faces’. Indeed, almost half the squad will be receiving their first squad call-up.
Players will report to Dalziel Park for 10.00 am, bringing their match-day kit with them. The session running between 11.00 am and 1.00 pm.
Everyone involved is very much looking forward to meeting up and contributing to the resumption of our Scottish Amateur FA Select team.
Scottish Amateur FA Select Squad - 31 October:
Michael Watson (Fallin), David Tait (Campsie Minerva), Kenny Feaks (Bannockburn), Craig Buchanan (Giffnock North), Steven Greenlees (Stewarton United), James Gibbons (Lesmahagow), Dom Larkin (Castlemilk Dynamo), Scott Maitland (Oban Saints), Gary McCulloch (Eastfield), Scott Gray (Lesmahagow), Chris Cairns (Tollcross Thistle), Arran Gosman (Meadowbank), David McArthur (Glasgow Harp), Mark Hansen (Eastfield), Niall McClure (Doune Castle), Ryan Crawford (Thorn Athletic), Lewis Cameron (Oban Saints), Robbie Hurst (Doune Castle), Andrew Gibson (Doune Castle), Jack Buchanan (Dumbarton Academy FP), Liam Rowan (St Patrick’s FP), Stewart Crozier (Tollcross Thistle), Marc McGinty (Lesmahagow), Graham Gracie (Lesmahagow), Lee Hadden (Wishaw HSFP), Richie Lawson (AM Soccer), Ciaran McElroy (St Patrick’s FP), Michael Yuill (Tollcross Thistle), Steven Currie (Stewarton United), Andy McEwan (Glasgow Harp)

Scottish Amateur FA 2 Shotts Bon Accord Juniors 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shotts Bon Accord 1 Scottish Amateur FA Select 2
(Half-Time: 1-1)
Scorers: Mikey Yuill (45), Ciaran McElroy (65)
Scotland recorded a morale-boosting win in their final warm-up game before the first international of the season versus the Leinster Senior League at the beginning of April.
Shotts Bon Accord provided stern opposition in a fiercely competitive match that threatened to boil over on more than one occasion.
The opening exchanges were even. Both sides enjoyed some quality possession and passed the ball around confidently. However, neither team posed any serious threat.
Ryan Crawford with a stabbed shot from the edge of the area and Ciaran McElroy with a low drive from 20 yards produced Scotland’s both efforts. At the other end, David McArthur did well to head clear to deny Shotts.
The game burst into life in a frenetic closing 10 minutes.
Shotts edged into a 1-0 lead on 39 minutes.
Scotland needlessly gave the ball away in midfield. Shotts countered quickly. When their striker received the ball at the edge of the area there seemed little danger. However, a quick turn and snap-shot was enough to see the ball slip wide of the unsighted Chic Clark for the opener.
Shotts were buoyed by that success and powered forward, looking to increase their advantage. For the first time, the Scotland backline looked vulnerable.
As the half edged to a close, Shotts were denied what looked like a clear penalty. As they protested vehemently to the referee, Scotland broke on the counter-attack. Lewis Cameron threaded a precise pass that sent Mikey Yuill clear on goal.
Yuill broke clear of a trailing defender, easily rounded the advancing keeper and gleefully carried the ball into the unguarded net for 1-1.
Colin MacLeod introduced all of his substitutes for the start of the second period.
Chris Cairns came close 5 minutes after the re-start. The full-back received the ball at the edge of the area. He stepped inside a defender, but saw his curling effort slip narrowly wide of the far post.
Scotland enjoyed a large slice of good fortune on 55 minutes. The defence failed to cut out a corner from the left. The ball fell to a Bon Accord striker. His 10-yard strike beat Greg McGuinness but rebounded off the underside of the bar and rebounded to safety.
Scotland were reeling at that stage, and the conceded a penalty on 57 minutes. Chris Cairns felled the winger just inside the area and the referee pointed the spot.
To Scotland’s relief, and with Greg McGuinness diving in the opposite direction, Shotts saw their penalty strike the right-hand upright and bounce to safety.
Scotland took heart from that let off and started to pass the ball around with a confidence lacking in the first part of the game. Shotts, on the other hand, were clearly unsettled by what they regarded as the injustice of the penalty claim denied.
The game became a very physical contest, with the referee having to work hard to retain a grip on proceedings.
Scotland now looked like a more assured outfit and passed the ball effectively for the first time in the match. It was no surprise when they took a 2-1 lead after 65 minutes.
Lewis Cameron curled a dangerous free kick from the left into the heart of the Shotts box. Shotts could only knock the ball to the edge of the area. Ciaran McElroy latched onto the loose ball and drilled a powerful low drive that flew past the keeper.
A frustrated Shotts side reacted strongly and battled hard in an effort to draw level. A composed Scotland held firm and controlled possession for long spells.
The Select side finally brought some fluency into their passing for the first time in the game. Time after time, however, they squandered possession as they looked to grab the third goal that would undoubtedly kill the match.
Jason Cassidy did come close with a shot from the edge of the area. Lee Hadden then spurned a decent chance to extend the Select lead when he was forced wide by the keeper when through one-on-one.
The game lost none of its competitive intensity, but neither side looked likely to find the net. The final whistle heralded a Scotland win that, on the balance of play, they probably just deserved.

Cumbernauld Colts 1 Scottish Amateur FA 2 - Match Report
Tumblr media
Cumbernauld Colts 1 Scottish Amateur FA Select 2
(Half-Time: 1-0)
Scorers: Lee Hadden (53), Richie Lawson (68)
On Monday evening, the sides produced a highly entertaining and competitive match at a bitterly cold Broadwood Stadium. Scotland survived a sometimes torrid first half to turn around their fortunes completely and, in the end, deservedly edge an absorbing match.
The Colts were the first to threaten with a quick foray down the Scotland left. Chic Clark produced an early save, turning around a drive from just inside the area.
Scotland looked lively down both flanks. Debutant, Lee Hadden impressed down the right and combined well with Tyler Fulton and Lewis Cameron. After 20 minutes, Lewis Cameron latched onto a subtle pass inside from Lee Hadden and struck a low first-time shot the keeper did well to divert for a corner.
Cumbernauld impressed both with the intensity of their pressing and the lightning pace of their counter-attacking play. Time after time they broke clear of the Select backline to forge clear opportunities.
Chic Clark in the Scotland goal saved his side with two terrific blocks when twice left one-on-one with an attacker.
Colts were not to be denied, however, and swept into a 1-0 lead after 25 minutes. This time their centre finished clinically, slipping the ball wide of Clark and into the corner of the net after again breaking clear of the Scotland defence.
Despite looking the more dangerous side, the Colts were unable to extend their lead. Joe Coleman and Liam Taggart performed well in the heart of the Scotland defence. When the Colts did break clear, Chic Clark remained assured in goal and denied them with several more excellent stops.
Scotland forged one more chance before the break. Lewis Cameron cut the ball back to Niall McClure. The midfielder struck the ball first-time from 12 yards, but was denied by the keeper who dived to his right to parry.
Cumbernauld were more than worth their 1-0 interval lead.
Scotland made changes at the break and tweaked their formation. They looked a completely different side as they drove forward with a relentless energy missing during the first period. They pinned back the Colts, with Lee Hadden again catching the eye in a more central role.
The Select equalised after 53 minutes with a wonderful solo effort from Lee Hadden. Hadden gathered possession some 25 yards out. He jinked past three defenders before unleashing an unstoppable strike from just outside the area that flew high into the net for 1-1.
Mikey Yuill came close with a raking drive from the left edge of the area that flashed narrowly over before Scotland took a 2-1 lead after 68 minutes. Lewis Cameron angled an inviting ball across the face of the goal. Richie Lawson arrived at the back post to slide the ball home from a narrow angle.
Ryan Crawford almost added to the Select tally after 74 minutes, He connected with another telling cross from Lee Hadden, but saw his sliding effort saved well.
Cumbernauld remained dangerous on the counter-attack and should have equalised after 76 minutes. Their substitute forward found himself through one-on-one with Greg McGuinness, who had replaced Chic Clark in the Scotland goal. McGuinness denied the Colts forward with a decent save low to his right.
Scotland managed the closing stages impressively, retaining possession for long spells to stifle any hopes of a Colts recovery. The game edged to its conclusion, with the Select side worthy of their win, thanks entirely to their second half transformation.

SAFA Select V Camelon Juniors
Match Report from Falkirk Stadium
Tumblr media
Scottish Amateur FA Select 2
Camelon Juniors 1
(Half-Time: 0-1)
A strong second half performance saw the SAFA Select side edge a competitive and entertaining friendly against a Camelon side currently enjoying a rich vein of recent form. Both sides deserve great credit for producing such a high-quality match in horrendously wet conditions.
Bradley Grieve forged the game’s first opening. The defender won a challenge in his own half and weaved his way past two challenges before drilling a low shot from 20 yards the keeper saved low to his right.
Richie Lawson fired a shot over from a Michael Osborne corner from the right. Then twice within as many minutes, Chic Clark confidently gathered long-range efforts from Camelon.
Liam Taggart blasted a shot from 35 yards narrowly over as both sides found it difficult to force any clear opportunities. Michael Osborne saw his low drive from the left whistle across the face of goal before Camelon again threatened from a set piece.
On the half-hour mark, Liam Taggart hammered a second long-range shot that flashed inches wide.
Camelon replied with a snap-shot from the edge of the area that Chic Clark did well to smother low to his right.
A first-half that had seen both sides play tidy football, without creating any clear opportunities, looked likely to finish goalless until Camelon struck on 41 minutes.
Camelon pounced on a slack pass from Connor Morgan to break through on Chic Clark. A clinical finish from 14 yards saw the Juniors lead 1-0 at the interval.
As planned, Colin MacLeod introduced all of his substitutes for the restart.
Camelon tested Scott Urquhart with an early drive before Scotland equalised after 50 minutes.
Lewis Cameron fired a pin-point corner towards the near post. Joe Coleman lost his marker to direct an unstoppable header high into the net from 8 yards to make it 1-1.
Ciaran McElroy posed Camelon problems with his direct running as the Scottish FA Select started to play with greater fluency. Camelon always looked dangerous on the counter-attack.
The Camelon keeper pulled off an outstanding save after 64 minutes. Lewis Cameron created a shooting opportunity with a quick turn on the edge of the area. The keeper parried, but pushed the ball towards the unmarked Ryan Hynes. The keeper prevented a certain goal with an instinctive and brave block.
Ciaran McElroy drove into the side net before Scotland scored the winner after 83 minutes.
Tyler Fulton began the move with a long ball down the right touchline to Lewis Cameron. Cameron darted past the full back before driving an inviting ball across the face of the goal. Ryan Hynes saw the keeper block his first effort. The striker reacted quickest to stab the loose ball high into the net from 6 yards to make it 2-1.
Neither side could force any further openings as the Select side managed the closing stages effectively to record the second win of their Autumn programme.

Tumblr media
Scottish Amateur FA Select 4 Whitburn Juniors 0
Scorers: Lewis Cameron (16), Daniel Finnigan (25), OG (45), Michael Osborne (85)
The SAFA Select recorded a convincing win in their first friendly match of the season.
The Select opened the scoring on 16 minutes. John Robertson started the move with a ball wide to Ciaran McElroy. McElroy curled a precise cross to the back post. Lewis Cameron rose unchallenged to direct a precision header back across goal and into the top corner for 1-0.
Daniel Finnigan extended the lead after 25 minutes. Finnigan reached the ball ahead of the advancing keeper. He took the ball wide and calmly angled a shot into the unguarded net from 16 yards for 2-0.
The Select controlled the match and probed constantly down both flanks. When Whitburn tried to counter, they found Liam Taggart and Joe Coleman an impenetrable barrier in the heart of the Select defence.
The 3rd goal came on the stroke of half-time. Scott Maitland broke down the left and fired a cross into the box. A Whitburn defender miscued his attempted clearance and sliced the ball into his own net, with the keeper helpless.
Colin MacLeod introduced all 6 of his substitutes at the break.
Greg McGuinness saved low to his left after 55 minutes as Whitburn looked for an early way back into the game.
The Select regained their momentum and continued to threaten from the wide areas, with Ciaran McElroy looking particularly dangerous down the left.
Despite several close efforts, it took until the 85th minute before the Select sealed their win with the final goal of the match.
The impressive John Robertson sent Michael Osborne clear on goal with a slide-rule pass. His club team mate finished with aplomb, confidently drilling home from 14 yards to make it 4-0.

Scottish Amateur FA Select: Squad Training - 3 November 2019
Colin MacLeod and his coaching team welcomed 22 players to today’s squad get-together at a rain-soaked Falkirk Stadium. There were 8 call offs, mainly due to injuries sustained during yesterday’s matches.
Despite the constant and often-heavy rain, the players were in fine fettle and performed impressively. It was heartening to see the new players welcomed into the group and, by the end of the session, looking as if they had been permanent fixtures.
Another new face was that of Derek Jackson, the newest member of Colin’s backroom staff. Derek is currently Falkirk FC’s 1st Team Goalkeeping Coach so brings a wealth of experience to the Coaching Team. Our three keepers today, Greg McGuinness, Chic Clark and Matt Baines, clearly enjoyed being put through their paces by Derek.
Most of those attending today’s session will be involved in Tuesday evening’s friendly versus Whitburn Juniors at Dalziel Park, Motherwell (8.00 pm Kick Off). Anyone not involved in this game will feature in the next friendly, after the 24th November training session.

Scottish Amateur FA V Northern AFL Match Report
Tumblr media
The Jack Britton Rose Bowl: Scottish Amateur FA 1 Northern AFL 1
(Northern AFL win 4-3 on penalties)
The Northern AFL edged a dramatic penalty shoot-out to retain the Jack Britton Rose Bowl. After bagging a late equaliser, and with only two minutes left on the clock, Scotland also passed up a decent chance to win the match in 90 minutes.
Much of the early play was confined to midfield, with both sides battling tenaciously to gain the upper hand. Jason Cassidy, Liam Taggart, Andy McGown and Tyler Fulton were Scotland’s most influential players in that opening period as both sides battled to gain the upper hand.
It took till the 22nd minute before there was a serious effort on goal. Irish centre Billy McKee directed a speculative effort from 25 yards well wide of the left-hand post.
Mark Hansen defused a dangerous ball into the box when he confidently chested a deep cross back to Greg McGuinness.
Scotland threatened down the right flank with Daniel Finnigan and Mark Taylor both creating problems. The Irish defence stood firm and denied the Scots any clear opportunities.
The Irish bundled the ball into the net after 33 minutes, but had clearly impeded Greg McGuinness in the process. The referee disallowed the goal and cautioned the offender.
The opening goal did arrive 4 minutes later.
The Irish left full back launched a deep cross into the heart of a crowded penalty area. Greg McGuinness looked to have taken the ball cleanly, but with several players around the keeper, the ball slipped from his grasp.
Billy McKee pounced to stab the ball into the unguarded net from 8 yards to make it 1-0.
Gary McCulloch prevented the Scots falling further behind with a terrific sliding challenge when the Irish seemed likely to score after a lightning break down the Scotland right.
Scotland found themselves 1-0 down at the interval.
Ryan Crawford replaced the injured Stewart O’Neill for the start of the second half.
Two minutes into the second period, Mark Taylor charged down the right and delivered a low cross into the area. It was too close to the keeper, however, and he dived low to his left to smother with Richie Lawson poised at the back post.
A long throw from the left created danger in the Scotland defence, the ball glancing off Liam Taggart’s head to slip narrowly wide of the far post. From the resultant corner, Irish midfielder Joe O’Neill did well to test Greg McGuinness with an acrobatic overhead kick. McGuinness gathered safely on the line.
Scotland were gradually starting to impose themselves on the game for the first time and threatened down both flanks. Richie Lawson and Johnny Black both tested the away defence with dangerous balls into the box.
Scotland deservedly equalised after 78 minutes.
Gary McCulloch did well to win a challenge wide on the left. From the edge of the penalty box, McCulloch swung an inch perfect out-swinging cross to the back-post area. Steven Currie timed his run perfectly to rise about several defenders. His perfectly weighted looping header from 12 yards beat the keeper all ends up to drop into the net at the back post for 1-1.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On 86 minutes, Gary McCulloch curled a free kick from 25 yards out on the right flank. The ball deceived the keeper who stretched high in an effort to palm the ball over. The ball bounced of the top of the crossbar before dropping to a defender who hacked clear.
The Irish were stung into retaliation. Greg McGuinness did well to save low at his left-hand post after Steven Cockcroft drilled a low drive from 22 yards towards goal.
With 2 minutes remaining, Gary McCulloch hurled another cross deep into the area. The ball seemed to fall kindly for Ryan Crawford. Crawford hit the ball first-time but slashed his shot from 14 yards over the bar.
With Scotland pressing for the winner and the game deep into added time, Irish striker Billy McKee broke clear just beyond the half-way line. He looked to have time to drive closer to goal, but opted for an ambitious dipping volley from some 30 yards. Greg McGuinness swallowed the ball in his grasp to make sure the final score remained 1-1.
The game proceeded straight to a penalty shootout.
Greg McGuinness dived to his left to save the first spot kick. Liam Taggart stepped forward to take Scotland’s first effort. He beat the keeper but saw the ball cannon back of the right-hand post.

The next 3 takers from both sides converted confidently, Mark Hansen, Gary McCulloch and Richie Lawson all netting for Scotland to leave the sides locked at 3-3 after 4 penalties each.

Irish striker Billy McKee then deceived Greg McGuinness, sending him the wrong way to give the Northern AFL a crucial 4-3 advantage. The Irish keeper dived smartly to his left to deny Jason Cassidy to give the Northern League victory in the cruellest manner possible.

Tumblr media
SAFA Select V Northern League: Squad Training - Sunday 28th April & Sunday 5th May
With the match versus the Leinster Senior League now a recent memory, Colin MacLeod and his coaching team have turned their attention to preparations for the season’s second international. The Scottish Amateur FA Select will meet the Northern League (Belfast) at Falkirk Stadium on Saturday 11th May in the annual Jack Britton Rose Bowl Challenge Match.
Since returning from Dublin, Colin, Stevie, Craig and ‘Bisket’ have taken advantage of the flood of games that inevitably run at this stage of the season as tournaments reach their conclusion. Colin has organised two training sessions as the Scots look to bounce back from the disappointing defeat in Dublin. The first of these sessions will be at Falkirk Stadium this coming Sunday, 28th April, between 11.00 am - 1.00 pm. The second session will be at Dalziel Park on Sunday 5th May, running over the same time slot.

Colin will name the 16-man squad for the game against the Northern Irish shortly after the second session.

Leinster Senior League V Scottish Amateur FA 2019: Match Report
Leinster Senior League 2 Scottish Amateur FA  1
Tumblr media
(Played at FAI HQ, Abbotstown, Dublin)
Tumblr media
The Leinster Senior League survived a late Scotland fightback to edge a fiercely competitive contest. Their narrow win saw them re-gain possession of the Graham Harkness Memorial Trophy.
The sun shone brightly as the players met the Presentation Party, comprising John Delaney (FAI Executive Vice President), Dave Moran (Chairman, Leinster Senior League) and Stuart Urquhart (President SAFA). The immaculate playing surface provided the perfect setting for the players and the sizeable crowd.
Tumblr media
Leinster threatened first with a break down the Scotland left flank. Thankfully for the Scots, their effort rose high over the bar without troubling Scott Urquhart.
After 3 minutes, Tyler Fulton found his brother, Dale with a right-wing cross. His shot flashed wide of the left-hand post.
Scotland were fortunate not to concede after 14 minutes. A Leinster forward intercepted Andy McGown’s intended pass back. Scott Urquhart anticipated the danger. His dash from his goal-line was enough to force the winger wide and the opportunity came to nothing.
A minute later, Tyler Fulton won a crunching tackle on the right to release Niall McClure. McClure strode through the middle to rifle a strong shot from 22 yards that flashed narrowly wide.
The ferocity of the early exchanges saw Leinster forced into 2 early substitutions as players from both sides committed wholeheartedly to their side’s cause.
On 27 minutes, Leinster worked the ball well down their right. Their wide man cut the ball across the face of the goal from the bye-line. Scott Urquhart did well to pounce forward to collect before a striker could take advantage.
After 33 minutes, Scott McGuire took control of a free kick awarded after a foul on Serge Makofo in a central area. McGuire struck the ball well, but saw his effort deflect off the defensive wall to flash behind for a corner.
Leinster countered with an attack down the left. The Scotland defence allowed an unchallenged header which grazed the top of the crossbar as it drifted over.
Scotland created their best opportunity of the half after 36 minutes. Dale Fulton slipped the ball behind two defenders to free Steven Currie just inside the area. Currie turned quickly to shoot, but was unable to generate sufficient power to trouble the keeper.
Andy McGown made a tremendous recovery tackle to slide the ball to safety as Leinster pushed for the opener.
Leinster made the breakthrough on 44 minutes. A fine passing move down the right saw the ball cut back across the face of the Scottish goal. A crisp first-time side-foot finish from 8 yards gave Scott Urquhart no chance as the home side earned a 1-0 half-time advantage.
At the start of the second half, Leinster enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges. After 54 minutes, they spurned a clear opportunity to extend their lead. A corner from the left presented what looked like an easy opportunity but the forward misjudged his header and it slipped harmlessly wide of the left upright.
Scott Urquhart suffered a muscle injury and was replaced by Greg McGuinness after 59 minutes. The replacement keeper wasted no time in demonstrating his ability, gathering assuredly twice in as many minutes as Leinster drilled crosses into the box.
The introduction of Mark Taylor gave Scotland renewed impetus and they began to trouble the home side, especially from the wide right position.
On 67 minutes, Taylor curled an inviting cross into the heart of the Leinster area. The keeper fumbled possession and the ball spun invitingly loose. No Scotland player was close enough to take advantage.
Scotland sensed real hesitancy in a Leinster backline that had previously dealt well with the Scotland attacks.
Dale Fulton sent a free kick from 25 yards into the middle of the goal. The keeper repeated his earlier mistake to drop the ball in the crowded area. His good fortune continued as a defender reacted quickest to hack clear.
Almost unbelievably, on 78 minutes, the Leinster keeper again failed to deal with a cross ball from the right. This time Niall McClure drilled a curling free kick towards the packed goal area. The keeper looked to have gathered high but dropped the ball. This time he fell on the ball instinctively to make a dramatic recovery and frustrate the awaiting Scotland forwards.
Leinster all but extinguished Scotland hopes of an equaliser with their second goal after 79 minutes.
From a throw-in on the left, Leinster worked the ball across the face of the Scotland box. A perfectly weighted pass between two defenders presented a forward with a clear path to goal. A fierce low strike gave Greg McGuinness no chance as Leinster swept into a 2-0 lead.
Scotland failed to capitulate. They battled back strongly to exert late pressure, encouraged by the home keeper’s obvious uncertainty.
With the game 2 minutes into added time, Scotland pulled one back with a lovely finish from Richie Lawson. Mark Taylor stole possession 30 yards out as the Leinster full back tried to bring the ball out of defence. Taylor threaded a pass into the path of Richie Lawson who had broken clear of his marker.
Lawson took the ball in his stride to unleash an unstoppable first-time shot that rose high into the net at postage stamp corner to make it 2-1.
Tumblr media
In the dying moments, Scotland were unable to force the equaliser that would have taken the game to penalties, leaving a jubilant Irish side to collect the Graham Harkness Memorial Trophy.
Scottish Amateur FA: Scott Urquhart (St Josephs), Tyler Fulton (Eastfield), Hamish Flett (Tollcross Thistle), Andy McGown (Fallin), Gary McCulloch (Eastfield), Scott McGuire (Colville Park E), Daniel Finnigan (St Patricks FP), Dale Fulton (Eastfield), Steven Currie (Hurlford Thistle), Niall McClure (Doune Castle), Serge Makofo (Giffnock North)

SAFA Select V Leinster Senior League: Final Preparations - Sunday 31st March
The SAFA Select squad gathered at a warm and sunny Falkirk Stadium at midday on Sunday. This was the final get-together before Friday morning’s departure for Dublin and the match versus the Leinster Senior League on the afternoon of Saturday 6th April.
Colin MacLeod had already been notified of one withdrawal from the 16-man squad named earlier this month. Unfortunately, Johnny Black (Harestanes AFC) suffered an injury that forced his withdrawal from the travelling pool. Serge Makofo (Giffnock North) joined the group for training and will replace Johnny in the squad for Dublin.
David Ramage, Chairman of the SAFA International Committee, began the day by congratulating the players on their selection. David then outlined the broad details of the itinerary and explained the protocol for the weekend.
Colin MacLeod, Stevie Reynolds and Craig Tully led the group through some light-hearted warm-up exercises. Some work on team shape and set pieces followed. Shooting practice tested the keepers and there was a real competitive edge to the penalty-taking session that finished the day. The efforts of one or two players confirmed they will be among the last of the penalty-takers should the annual challenge match end all square!
Everyone is now looking forward to the match, kicking off this Saturday at 3.00 pm at the Football Association of Ireland Headquarters at Abbotstown, near Dublin.
Revised SAFA Select Squad V Leinster:
Goalkeepers: Scott Urquhart (St Josephs), Greig McGuinness (Eastfield)

Camelon Juniors 1 SAFA Select 3
(Half-Time 0-1)
Scorers: Sean Heaver (27), Richie Lawson (65), Mark Taylor (77)
The Select recorded an impressive win over their East of Scotland League opponents in a highly competitive friendly match.
Scott Urquhart made a good save after only 2 minutes, gathering a deflected shot low to his right.
Camelon enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges and came close on 22 minutes. A quick break down the left flank ended with a chipped effort from the edge of the box that drifted narrowly over.
Scotland replied with a free kick from Dale Fulton that keeper Kane did well to tip over. Steve Currie connected cleanly with Sean Heaver’s corner but saw his header crash back off the face of the bar. The ball rebounded back to Sean Heaver. He cut inside and beat the keeper at this near post with a low angled drive to give Scotland a 1-0 lead.
Camelon responded with an impressive foray down the right. Tyler Fulton cleared the danger with a fine defensive header from right under his own crossbar.
Scotland were given a great opportunity to extend their lead after 34 minutes. Steve Currie broke through one-on-one with the keeper and was brought down inside the box. Sean Heaver struck the resultant penalty cleanly, but saw keeper Dean Shaw dive to his left to make a terrific save.
Scotland led 1-0 at the interval.
Colin MacLeod brought on Greig McGuinness and Callum Deas at the break. McGuinness saw early action, twice making impressive stops in as many minutes as Camelon looked to hit an early equaliser. Scotland then introduced the remainder of their substitutes as the management team looked to inject a freshness into their play.
Camelon made it 1-1 after 65 minutes.
They won a free kick in some 25 yards out. Kieran Anderson curled the ball up and over the wall to beat McGuinness all ends up with a stunning strike that flew into the net off the inside of the right upright.
Within seconds of the restart, Richie Lawson restored Scotland’s lead with a brilliant individual effort. There seemed little danger when Lawson took possession some 30 yards out. He turned his marker and bulleted an unstoppable rising shot that nestled high into the postage stamp corner for 2-1.
The Select side were clearly buoyed by that stunning strike and started to dominate with some fine passing play. Richie Lawson again, Niall McClure and Johnny Black all came close before Mark Taylor edged Scotland into a 3-1 lead after 77 minutes.
Mark Taylor set up a shooting chance for Johnny Black with a deft pass inside. Black’s effort was blocked and rebounded to Taylor on the edge of the area. The striker calmly turned a defender before rifling a shot high into the net from 18 yards with the aid of a slight deflection.
Camelon did come close with a late effort, but generally Scotland controlled the game’s final minutes with some assured possession.
