Pop’s Chok-lit Shop felt like the perfect place to go after his final physical therapy session. Archie had come back to Riverdale a month ago, but didn’t reach out to anyone. The only person who knew he was back was his mother. He’d moved back into his childhood home and felt completely lost. However, a Pop’s milkshake was usually a great way to unwind and often fixed negative emotions. At least… They used to in the past.

When he entered the diner, Pop Tate gave Archie a big hug, happy to see the former soldier and explained to him that whatever he wanted was on the house. Archie thanked the older man and plopped down in a booth and took in the scenery. It felt awkward. Did he really belong there? He was looking through the menu even though he’d memorized it after all of the years he’d been going to the diner. He just needed to immerse himself in it. Maybe he would feel normal after doing so. Archie looked up when he heard someone say his name. Looking around the diner, he couldn’t see who it was and called back out to them. “Yes?” Was he imagining things now?

—— T H E R E was a soft exhale as the car pulled up to the familiar parking lot. the neon florescent light still shining that all too bright glow signaling the landmark that was Pop’s. how long had it been ? five...maybe five and a half years since she sat in the perfectly made booths with her friends. she remembered the last meal she had, a special pop’s B U R G E R with a side of fries, cooked just a little longer for a nice crunch...and a signature strawberry milkshake that she shared with A R C H I E. just thinking of him sent a pang in her chest, one she knew she caused herself. but that was the past, he was in the past...they all were in the P A S T.

❝ sofia...sweetheart, you know we are only here to pick up food and go to the hotel yes ? ❞ her beautiful five year old just looked up and smiled at her while nodding, which in turn made veronica smile. leaning over, she kissed the top of her head deciding to bend her own prior plans. ❝ mija...just for you, we will stay a little while and have a milkshake ❞ she winked before sliding out the back of the rolls royce. her red bottom heels slid into the gravel under her as she adjusted her stance; taking in the atmosphere. turning back, she took her daughters hand helping her out and slowly the two headed into the establishment. D I N G...the door sounded as they both walked in, the S M E L L engulfing her as she closed her eyes. ❝ this place hadn’t changed a bit.. ❞ which was a relief. she paused hearing the jolly old man known as Pop come from the kitchen, greeting his patrons like he usually did. it took her off guard when he said the name she’d been dreading. her gaze followed to where the voice answered and there he was. his hair still that vibrant red, though he lost a bit of the boyish C H A R M...time seemed to have aged him, just like it aged her and all the others. it was now. taking small steps over, she let her daughters hand go just for a second allowing her to run to where archie sat. she bent down picking up something from the ground, something that seemed to have belong to him. ❝ excuse me..you dropped this ❞ her small voice spoke to the man and veronica intervened stepping in front of her. ❝ mija you know not to speak to strangers..go find us a place to sit and i’ll be right there. ❞ she gave a wink to her daughter before turning back to her past. ❝ hey there A R C H I E K I N S..long time no see.. ❞
