1. I think it would have been nice to see Arashiyama in Kyoto. Most of the group had planned to visit it on our free day, but since it was over an hour away by train we ended up not going. I understand that it wasn't in the itinerary because it is so far away and maybe too small to make an entire day out of it, but it is something I regret not doing.
2. Overall, there is nothing we did as a group that I disliked. Everything in the itinerary had a place and taught a lesson. If I absolutely had to pick something, I would probably leave out the Ghibli museum. It's not that I didn't like the museum, but I'm not super invested in the movies (I've only seen a few) and it was a lot smaller than I expected. It was definitely a good experience, but maybe if we didn't spend so much time it would have been better. Most people finished looking around with 2+ hours leftover.
3. It's hard to pick a single part of the trip that I liked more than the rest, but if I had to pick one thing it would be the Tokyo Sky Tree. I mentioned it in an earlier blog, but since I'm afraid of heights I was nervous to go up. Once we got to the top though the amazing view of Tokyo at night was too cool to be afraid of.
4. Visiting the Nishiki market in Kyoto early in the morning was something I did on a free day. It was cool to see all the stalls being prepared and opened with fresh meat and vegetables. This is something that may have been worth doing as a group, though it would have been crowded with all of us there at once.
5. I think the structure of the trip was well-done and highly organized. It was nice to be able to do everything as a group during the day, and still be allowed to have a few hours of free time every night. The first few days felt a little bit rushed, but I think that was just because of all the moving around as well as trying to visit a lot of locations. I don't have many negative things to say about the trip; I enjoyed every part of it.

The karaoke farewell party was a lot of fun. I didn't sing anything myself, but enjoyed singing along with everyone else on songs we all knew. It was a good way to end the trip with everyone just relaxing and having fun together before leaving in the morning.

The most interesting thing Zach and I did with our host family was visiting Enoshima. Our host son is interested in custom cars and street racing, and apparently Enoshima is the hub of all of that. He drove us out to look around at everything.
I think home staying is an important part of the trip because it offers an authentic cultural experience. Rather than just sightseeing or shopping, we got the opportunity to spend an evening/night with a local family that were able to talk to us about their lives an show us around. I certainly wish the homestay lasted longer, maybe an entire day and night instead of just a night, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

The most interesting thing I did on the Tokyo free day was go to a maid cafe in Akihabara. Even though it wasn't great, it was still a unique thing to do. Most of the other things we did that day were more fun, but also more ordinary.
One thing I didn't like in Tokyo was the maid cafe we went to in Akihabara. I am glad I went because it is a unique experience, but the service was slow, the food wasn't good, and the girls weren't even that cute! I don't regret going, but it wasn't fun.
Everyone spent most, if not all, of their free time in Akihabara. I tagged along because I didn't have any other plans and enjoyed hanging out with everyone. I definitely had fun, but Akihabara was a slightly lackluster compared to what I expected. The surprise dinner was great though. The performances were amazing and all the colorful costumes and light shows were awesome.

Even though I don't like sushi very much, I enjoyed the experience of learning how to make it.
I wasn't able to get many pictures of the Ghibli museum on account of not being allowed to take photos inside. I liked the short film that was presented there, but my favorite part of the museum was the area where they showed all the foods from each film. Even though I don't like most of that type of food, it is still amazing to look at.
Since I'm afraid of heights, I wasn't too thrilled about the Sky tree. Once we got up to the top, I didn't mind the height anymore. The view of Tokyo from so high up was amazing, especially at night.

I like the free time we get because I'm able to do the things that I'm personally interested in, or tag along with the others and see what they like. It's also nice to be able to move at my own pace and experience everything, rather than be rushed everywhere.

1. The most interesting thing I did today was making the plastic food samples. It was fun to get to do something hands-on since we have done so much sightseeing since we got here. It was also something unique because America doesn't usually have plastic food outside of restaurants. 2. The most challenging thing I did was try the takoyaki. I was afraid to eat it because it isn't very easy to take small bites to try it, the way the food is I just had to eat it all and hope for the best. I actually was able to eat it though. I don't know if I'd eat it regularly, but it wasn't bad. 3. I liked the plastic food samples because it's something different than what we have in America. Also the "professor" was hilarious and made everything fun.

1. Today I went to Nishiki market with Zach and Jake. We made sure to get there right as it opened in the morning to see all the fresh food that the vendors had. 2. We had planned to go to Arashiyama at night, but everyone was so tired we ended up not going. 3. Kyoto was a lot more crowded than Hiroshima. It seemed like there was more to do as well, but maybe that is just because we stayed longer in Kyoto. 4. The surprise dinner was really cool. They had fries so I was able to eat something I knew I liked, and the show was fun, even if it was a little cheesy.

1. The most interesting thing I did today was visiting Fushiniinari. Zach and I tried to climb up the mountain but we ran out of time and will power so we never finished. 2. One thing that went poorly was I got a bunch of sunscreen in my eyes at the golden temple during the sky bus tour. It wasn't terrible but I didn't really pay any attention to what was happening because of the burning pain. 3. I didn't eat very much at the conveyor belt sushi. I just had some prawns and let everything else slide past.

1. The most interesting thing I did in Miyajima was going to the aquarium. 2. One thing I may have done differently is try more food. I got some fried shrimp and other things, but I ended up only eating the shrimp. I didn't think I would like the rest of the food, but I should have at least tried it. 500 yen challenge 1. I got a mini statue of the shrine. 2. I decided to get this because I wanted something to remember the island, most of the other things sold there were just about Japanese culture in general. I got this because it is specifically of the island. 3. I think it's interesting because it is specifically from Miyajima and it also has a deer in it, and I enjoyed seeing the deer interact with people on the island.
