Carefree (1938) - Ginger Rogers as Amanda Cooper wearing a short-sleeved sweater with heart-and-arrows decoration on the bodice, worn with a pleated skirt, gloves and a patent belt.
The costumes were designed by Howard Greer.
Elsa Schiaparelli introduced a similar design (dagger-pierced heart) in the 1940s
Tumblr media
The maison revived the theme in the Fall 2014 Haute Couture collection: the heart-and-dagger motif was gone, though, and on the catwalk a perfect (velvet) copy of the Howard Greer dress was shown.

Méret Oppenheim: Object (Le Déjeuner en fourrure) – Object (Breakfast in Fur), 1936.
The work’s concept originated in a conversation among Oppenheim, Pablo Picasso, and his lover and fellow artist Dora Maar at a Parisian café where the café’s social role was discussed, and at which Oppenheim was wearing a fur-covered brass tube bracelet, the pattern of which she sold to the fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli. … Picasso complemented the young artist on her fur bracelet, and flirtatiously observed that there are many things he enjoyed that were improved when covered in fur. Oppenheim responded, tongue in cheek, by asking, “Even this cup and saucer?”

Veil designed by Elsa Schiaparelli, French (born in Italy 1890 - 1973). Embroidered by Lesage (founded in Paris in 1922) in 1938. Cotton net with glass bugle beads. Elsa Schiaparelli closed the Circus collection with a simple white wedding gown paired with a white tulle veil embroidered with sapphire blue bugle beads arranged in wavy strands that resemble hair, or possibly snakes evoquing the mythical Medusa.
