Thinking about the scene when Jess hands Lupe the coke and gives her this once over before looking away in the context of something Roberta said in a podcast years ago. (The podcast was tales from the closet: gay bars and that ep has some wonderful stories from Roberta). Anyway they were talking about eye contact in flirting: like how you’ll meet someone’s gaze, then look away, and look back and how that’s an indicator of interest, desire, etc. But what got me was when Roberta pointed out that there is power in being the one to look away first. And idk I guess I always thought of looking away first as something submissive or demure, but yeah there is power in choosing to look away first because you’re confident enough to and you know that the other person is watching . And that’s exactly what Jess does.

a league of their own officially one of my favorite shows of all time. what a brilliantly done story that understands queerness more fundamentally than almost anything i've ever seen

I made a baby blanket for a pregnant woman at work and I went back and forth about it like “is this weird? To like hand make something for someone when we’re like friendly acquaintances not like bffs. God why are you so fucking awkward.” Anyway I gave it to her and she said she loved it and in the back of my head I’m like yea she’s nice and probably just humoring the weirdo. Well she texted me a picture this weekend of a scrunchy faced newborn at the hospital wrapped in the blanket I made her. And I’m like. Wow. She loved it so much she took it with her! To the hospital! To give birth! She wrapped her newborn it! I am just so filled with love and joy right now.
People will love the things you make them. Because you thought of them and you cared.
