I apologize for the lack of activity, I wasn’t feeling well this past week so my mood dropped orz. However, I’m starting to feel better so hopefully I’ll be able to reply to threads I owe and write up some starters. Again, sorry for any delays. ;;;;

They had been walking for hours already, the sun passing from being right on top of them to be lazily resting over the hills beyond the forest… Mika had been glad to be paired with a girl for the trip, even know feeling strangely reassured by her presence alone. Though it’d be better if he could be a more reliable man.

Mika jolted back slightly as he was presented with a map, stumbling just slightly with it before getting it on the right position to read it. What could he say? It seemed like Hiyori had been guiding them the right way all along… but then again they haven’t quite reached the town yet. Or the map was wrong or there was something else going on in this place.

“It ain’t yer fault Hiyori-chan!” he rushed to comment, maybe trying to give her some confidence “I ain’t so sure ‘bout the map,but it seems like we’re bein’ made to walk in circles. It’d be dangerous to stay long if its a barrier or a spell… ya never know what might come atcha”You heard about that a lot; mirages that made travelers get lost unless they had a special charm or item.

“Maybe we sh’ld try to investigate ‘round?”

He was right– the most likely cause of this was a spell or mirage. Thieves and mages with nothing going for them tended to lure unsuspecting travelers into their traps all to steal their loot.The very notion of it made Hiyori made her upset but there was no use in dwelling on it for now.

“You think so? That seems like a good idea! Stay close behind me okay?”

Well first thing’s first– the odd looking tree they kept passing by. Hiyori knelt down, inspecting the dull mushrooms that sprouted around it. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, save for the pale colors the mushrooms had. If they only had a mage on their party...then maybe they could figure out if this was a spell or not. Oh well, it was up to them! 

“Nothing weird here! Hm...let’s try over there!”

Another tree with the same mushrooms and the one next to it too. In fact, they all looked the same. But Hiyori couldn’t help but feel a bit tense– she felt the hairs of her neck raise like someone was staring at them. She glanced out of the corner of her eyes but found nothing. Still, the feeling lingered and Hiyori suddenly knew– they weren’t alone.

“Mika,” She whispered, trying not to rouse any attention. “Do you feel that?”

Shugarl had in a sense ‘soaked up’ all the dark matter that was released with the death of the lesser demon. It was delicious, really Feeling rather elated with the amount of dark matter he absorbed which increased his own power substantially.

     Now back tracing his steps, he made his way out of the warehouse to see that Hiyori was now back inside of her body and that she was surrounded by all of the girls who have successfully escaped from the warehouse. A lazy glance thrown to double check on the status on everyone. No sinners were mixed in within the group, and it appeared as though no one had sustained any injuries that were of any concern.

     A station nearby, was it? If there was one nearby, then it was possible for all the humans to figure out approximately where they were so they could then figure some way to get back home. With half a mind to walk off, Hiyori stopped him with her worries about letting them go alone. This was not a part of his job description. Looking at the fear clouding over their eyes, he found it just a bit hard to deny them some comfort found in safety.

             "If you don’t wish for them to go alone, then follow them.“

     Exhaling some air with an exasperated expression, he regretted his choice to get himself involved in order to land himself in such a cumbersome task.

             "As long as I’m near, nothing will happen.”

Hiyori frowned– did he really find this bothersome? Fine. If another demon decided to show up, she could handle it on her own. Hiyori narrowed her eyes and gestured towards the group of girls. “Let’s go.”

The walk towards the station was relatively short though Hiyori felt like it could’ve dragged on forever. Maybe it was her nerves that were still on edge, they did narrowly escape death after all. The girls mostly chatted among themselves and when they finally arrived at the station, they all rushed inside. Hiyori ran behind them and found the police taking notes of what they were telling them.

They were all from the neighboring city, which honestly, was a relief. Hiyori half expected them to have arrived here with no memory like her. 

The chief told her they could wait here for their families to arrive and before they could ask her to stay, Hiyori quickly bid them goodbye and ran out the door. They didn’t have to know the situation she was in– telling them that she was a supernatural being wouldn’t sit well with them.

Tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, Hiyori found Shugarl not too far off. Now what? The girls were all safe and she supposed he’d be far too busy to deal with someone like her. She ought to report herself at least.

“The girls are all back at the station, waiting for their families to pick them up. So they’re safe.”

||Tan(60)=√3|| Shugarl watched as Hiyori ran past and gave him the words of being careful. He only gave a grunt in response. With the likes of this demon before him, he wasn’t going to struggle at all. Perhaps if there was a power in numbers, but that wasn’t the case. Not only that, he did also possess what many may call a ‘spell book’ in his hand. In truth it was a book that held various complex mathematical calculations. Those of which he used to summon intricate magical feats like summoning blades, or spheres of energy.

     The more complex the equation, the more complex his attacks would be. Simple equations such as 2+3=5 could result in something like a Giant Pooh bear appearing and stomping on anything in its wake. You may think this a joke, but that truly happened. Perhaps it was the influence of him borrowing Jupiter’s Pooh Book math book. How inelegant, but it got the job done.

     It was a good thing that all the humans have left the building because soon the room was filling to the brim with dark matter as the two were in a sense feeling each other’s aura’s out. It took no time at all for the other demon to realize that Shugarl was no ordinary demon but was in fact a Shinigami. That was one of the highest positions one could hold and they boasted the power to match!

     As unfortunate as it was, the human that the demon was possessing had already been tainted considerably as he allowed himself to be tainted by the demon to this extent. No matter what was to happen, their soul was destined to land up in Hell to suffer for thousands of years before the soul would then be released. If the soul was destined to Hell anyways, then there was no point in delaying the inevitable by trying to keep the human alive.

     For such occasions, Shugarl always kept an extra sheet of useful equations stuffed into the book he held of simpler equations. Invoking one of them, a series of blades appeared behind him, and after they’ve materialized, Shugarl sent them forth and effectively disposed of the demon that attempted to escape death by severing the possession it held over its human host. Unfortunately it was too late and it got chopped to pieces. As for the human, the shock of the demon suddenly releasing its tight grip on his soul rendered the human unconscious, and sustained some scratches here and there (as Shugarl noticed this early enough to make amendments to the equation) so the human would survive.

            “Hmph. You involved yourself too much.                     A surprise you’ve not been disposed of sooner.”

     Outside with all the girls, all eyes were on Hiyori who in contrast to all of those who were hostages seemed relatively calm, if not worried rather than frightened. The girls were able to see Shugarl just fine, but Hiyori’s spiritual form was harder to make out for some, but one of the girls did see and hear her back in the warehouse. So when she woke up, the girl stepped forward, grasping Hiyori’s hand to thank her with tears in her eyes. Who knew what was to become of them if she didn’t arrive to help them when she did?

     Now there was a problem. None of them knew where they were and they didn’t have anything on them to help them figure out where they were. Were the authorities coming? Where could they even go at this point?

When the girl shook her hand with tears in her eyes and gratefulness in her voice, Hiyori nearly felt her own tears threaten to spill. Hiyori shook her head and waved it off– the real hero here was Shugarl. She would’ve gotten herself killed if it weren’t for him. Speaking of which, the Shinigami stepped out of the warehouse without a scratch on him. The fight must’ve been easy and Hiyori wondered what Shugarl had done back there.

But oh, it looked like the girls had no clue where they were. The town was still dark, save for the streetlights, and there was no sight of anyone else besides them. Were the girls in the same situation as her or were they still scared they still couldn’t recall where they were? Hiyori turned to Shugarl, a worry look on her face.

“What should we do? I heard one of them mention a station nearby but we can’t let them go alone.”

She wasn’t sure if anymore of those demons still lurked around the area.

😷… To take care of my sick muse

Hiyori groaned. Getting sick during the weekend was the last thing she wanted. Her head felt stuffy, her eyes burned, and this darn cold would not leave her alone. Who even got sick during summer?! Her, that’s who!

But she couldn’t really complain especially since Kajika had insisted on taking care of her. And how could Hiyori say no to her, with her pretty silver eyes and kind personality? That and she was pretty stubborn. She was a lot like Hiyori in that regard. 

Shifting in her bed, Hiyori opened one eye and found Kajika with a bowl of soup in her hands. Did she cook that while Hiyori slept? She buried herself in the covers, hiding the smile that crept on her face.

“Thank you Kajika-san. I really appreciate what you’re doing for me.”

🔭… To watch the stars with my muse

Having Shugarl for company was a little odd. Not in the sense that he was strange but because he was always too serious and stoic. The couple of times she had run into him resulted in awkward silences– she either tried to fill in the silence with her talk (which resulted in her rambling about who knows what) or she didn’t have much to say. But as Hiyori hung around with him more and more, she began to note that he loved anything mathematical– or anything with logic, really. 

But today was a change of pace. After finally talking (or persuading), Hiyori managed to drag him outside to the city’s local observatory. Located high up on the mountains, the trip itself was fun but the real show stopper were the telescopes set up for the viewers to enjoy.

With childlike glee, Hiyori skipped up to one of the large telescopes as she leaned in to look at the star studded night sky. It’d been quite some time since she’s last seen the stars so clearly like this. The city lights always did always drown them out.

“Even Shinigami’s have to admire the pretty stars once in awhile Shugarl-san!”

☔… To offer my muse an umbrella during a storm

The sky was ominously dark, large gray clouds threatening to spill any second. Faint thunder could be heard, which meant Hiyori needed to hurry up and fast, lest she was caught in what would be a big storm. Darn her memory– she’d been so preoccupied with school that she forgot her umbrella back home.

Something rumbled overhead and sure enough, large drops of water began to pour from the sky and she soon found herself getting drenched, school clothes clinging to her frame as she rushed to find some shelter. It was cold and wet and like a cat, she began to run.

Everyone else seemed to have the same idea as her and Hiyori tried to shield herself from the onslaught of rain underneath a tree– which didn’t do much. Her eyes scanned the area for shelter, when suddenly the rain stopped. She looked up and to her surprise, found a rather peculiar man with a large lab coat  holding his umbrella over her. 

Hiyori felt her cheeks warm as she began to stutter. “A-ah, t-thank you– !”

||Tan(60)=√3|| All within calculations, he’d finished dealing with all of the humans. He stopped short by simply incapacitating them. If the hostages were young girls, they shouldn’t have to witness a gruesome image later while they were trying to escape with their lives.

     He finally could feel some more activity coming from the other demon, growing a bit excited, his golden eyes glowed, and the irises shrunk to small slits as his heightened senses were detecting the whereabouts of this demon.

     With Hiyori screaming that they should leave, the girls scrambled around and ran for it. Girls had a strong sense of camaraderie in such a situation so they were all helping each other out.

     Soon reaching his destination, he released just a bit of the dark matter he held in his body to catch the attention of the demon. This caught the demons attention as he knew that while humans posed no real threat to him, another demon did. It was this moment of distraction that allowed the girls to run out to escape, passing by Shugarl without sparing a moment to look back. There was no reason to doubt that he had been going in the correct direction.

     Walking through the door, he saw Hiyori who was still standing her ground and the demon that was currently snarling at him. Golden eyes scrutinized the demon crouched low as if he was ready to pounce on any given moment to see that he was nothing but a low-class demon who was possessing a human.

             “Hiyori, move aside.                        As for YOU, you’d best leave the human if you wish to live.”

     A grotesque laugh left the man before a gurgling sound from deep within his throat sounded, soon bubbling over. These bubbles slowly started to take form into long slender limbs and a large size that towered over even the likes of Shugarl. All this demon had was size.

     Unimpressed, Shugarl looked over towards Hiyori to make sure that she hadn’t sustained any major injuries, if any.

           “I’d suggest you leave to attend to the girls who ran out.”

     No need to worry about him as he was going to finish this up in no time.

Though she was in danger, Hiyori couldn’t help but breathe in relief as Shugarl appeared at the doorway. The girls had managed to escape without a single complaint and now the real fight would begin. The long limbs that protruded from the person were definitely not human. 

Hiyori looked over to Shugarl, debating on whether or not she should stay. But ultimately she knew that she had to take care of the hostages– surely they’d still be scared and confused. She nodded and leapt out of the way, turning to glance at Shugarl.

“Be careful!”

She bounded out of the room and ran outside of the warehouse, finding the group of girls away from the mass of bodies that Shugarl had left in his wake. They were alive, barely, but Shugarl seemed to spare them. Hiyori looked over to the girls, some of whom were looking at her sleeping form by the door.

Oh right. Time to wake up.

She walked up to her body, tail touching her hand– and then her eyes fluttered open. With bleary eyes, Hiyori stood up and looked back to the warehouse, concern settling in her features. She may have not known Shugarl for long but she hoped nothing terrible would happen to him.

||Tan(60)=√3|| Out of his peripheral, he could see that she went deeper into the warehouse even when he told her moments prior to stick close to him. He questioned if his definition of the word ‘close’ differed from her own, but if she was feeling passionate about helping others enough, then that was her choice. From the way she’d kicked the one man, she could at least handle herself to a certain degree. It was not as though these humans could do much to hold their own against him for very long anyhow so she would only be in real danger for mere moments.

    In order to be more inconspicuous, he brought along a different book full of formulations with him to the human realm. Otherwise with his usual set of mathematical equations, he’d be able to summon large blades and the like whenever he pleased. With the more simplistic equations, he was able to draw out more simplistic methods of attacking. This worked out in all of their favor as he simply chose to use the electricity flowing through his gloves to simply stun and knock out all of the humans.

     Using his fists to knock the wind out of some thugs by hitting the solar plexus, he’d spin on his dominant leg and kick another in the temple. With how foolish they were to go up against a demon that surely rattled their brain. Noting that two were rushing at him with knives, he jumped up into the air, mere feet away from the ceiling. Such an inhuman feat was knocking the fighting spirit out of the lot of them. Shugarl simply had this in the bag and was treating this to be some leisurely stroll. Human weaponry was very primitive.

     In Hiyori’s case, she was slipping deeper into the warehouse carefully and would see that many of the hallways were empty as everyone had stupidly decided to rush towards the source of the sound. Down the furthest hallway, sounds of sobbing could be heard as frightened girls were terrified about what was to become of them.

With the commotion going on outside, the warehouse seemed relatively empty,  it was dusty and rather dark, until the noise outside finally began to die down. Then she heard it. Sounds coming from the end of a hall. She could make out the frightened sobs– they were there. There was no time to waste.

Hiyori held her breath as she crept quietly along the halls until she made out the small group of girls, all huddled within each other. They couldn’t look any younger than her, all of them with terrified looks on their faces. Strangely enough, there wasn’t anyone there and Hiyori believed the kidnapper must’ve gone out to face Shugarl. 

“I’m not going to hurt you I promise.” She held her hands up as if to prove she had nothing on her, unsure if they would even be able to see her. But then one of the girl’s in front of her gasped and Hiyori felt her tail bristle, the hairs on her neck suddenly standing on edge. She turned to find what she assumed to be the leader standing behind her, a sharp grin on his face and a metal glistening from his hand. And that aura– malicious and dark. It reminded her of ayakashi except more twisted. This had to be the demon Shugarl mentioned.

How stupid of her. She was backed into the corner along with the hostages, her heart hammering into her chest. Still, she stayed grounded between the girls and the kidnapper, her eyes scanning for an opening.

“You should leave!”
