I always get so fucking mad when I remember that it’s actually a 16-year-old Algerian girl who influenced BOTH Picasso and Matisse. and. No one gives a rat’s ass about her work which was very focused on women and nature. History -or people dare I say- didn’t bother to remember her name because she was a young Algerian woman and no one cares about Maghrebi/Arab women. unlike P*casso & M*tisse who both became legends, almost gods both during their lives and after their deaths, no one knows her.

So, one of my favourite bands, Dir en grey, just livestreamed an entire concert. Not an insta live in their pyjamas, an actual concert with full lighting, graphics, make-up, costums, etc. And it was quite possibly the best thing I've ever seen.
They had to postpone their actual concert that was scheduled for today, but they still rented out the venue and performed with no audience
They set up like 10 cameras, proper sound and gave it their all - as they always do! But this was special
They also livestreamed 4+ hours of backstage interviews, talks and soundchecks before the show. I have honestly never experienced anything so uniting online, there were 33k of us watching the show and livechatting, applauding each song, losing our minds together.
The singer said that he had been expecting the show to get postponed and that he wanted use this opportunity do something for the fans, not just in Japan, but worldwide, because we're all having a hard time right now. (they also aren't a huge band with tons of money to waste) They were all nervous about performing without an audience, but so clearly looking forward to it and they absolutely smashed it!
I have so much love in my heart for this band. So thank you Dir en grey, you've gone above and beyond ❤️
“We don’t sing about good things or do anything bright or beautiful at concerts. I think many of our fans love strange things. To be honest, I really don’t understand why they love us. Maybe they find something that touches them. In Japan, there are quite a few people who hate our work. Often, we are forbidden to speak on tv. If someone says “I love Dir en grey” they may answer “what do you mean?” with some contempt.”
