JIAN YI - he’s always cheerful, funny and everyone loves him. he’s here for comedic purposes.
HE TIAN - Mr. Perfect. no matter what he does, he’s always the best and stupid things don’t happen to him.
MO GUANSHAN - he is the bad one. all he can do is start fights. should disappear.
ZHAN ZHENGXI - the only normal person in this story. he’s mature and never did anything stupid.
HE CHENG - he’s cold and devoid of emotions. even his younger brother means nothing to him.
QIU - looks like he could kill you and could actually kill you. always serious, does only what he has to do.
SHE LI - a psycho. the only good thing about him is his appearance.
… wait, it’s actually true. fuck shit li.

I am just genuinely happy and hyped that black studs we saw MANY, MANY times on Momo’s ears (official illustrations, special chapters, future chapters..) are a gift from He Tian, a gift which Mo asked for and wear proudly and all the time in public.
I am sorry, I am infantile fangirling now;

This is just my thoughts on the new chapter. Lots of ramblings to get this off my chest.
So, hell, I did not expect Mo’s pierced ears have a whole dark history behind it.
As someone who wrote a whole analysis on Mo’s earrings, I did have some thoughts on the reason why he had pierced ears, yet never wear any pair of earrings in the canon story (last year of junior high school). After all, Mo did seem to be wary of needles during this hospital scene:
(It might also be for entertainment too, with him wriggling so hard like that, who knows lol?)
The ears are also sensitive parts on the human body. So, if Mo is wary of needles, why would he have his ears pierced?
Back then, I put it down to his style and preference. That maybe he just wants to look cool, though, it’s a bit out of character since Mo doesn’t care that much about his appearance towards his schoolmates.
The new chapter got me well, and now I have to rethink this whole earrings thing. Probably, just probably, the reason he was frightened of the needles was due to the She Li incident in the past.
Mo is being so reluctant regarding the incident here. He must be uncomfortable recalling the past, but still chooses to reveal it to He Tian. It’s nice to see that kind of development in him, since usually, he would refuse to let anyone interfere with him.
A Yes/No question from Tian. Mo’s answer was neither; he avoids Tian’s question with an answer along the line of “It’s already a story of the past, don’t worry about it”.
He could have gone with a “No” (it’s consensual, he did it for me when we were friends/acquaintances, but then our relationship went awry at some point); or a “Yes” (he forced me to do it without my consent, it freakin hurts and I don’t want to recall that day). Mo’s answer was in between, as if he wants to brushes off He Tian, but also wants to open up about it; he wants somebody to listen to his story.
On Mo’s relationship with She Li, I’m rereading the old chapters to see if we can get any information from them. The story of Mo Guan Shan is unraveling through those chapters there:
It’s just my speculation here, but I do think that: The reason for Mo’s curt attitude in the story, it can be traced back to most people, especially She Li’s treatment towards him. The boy has been isolated in the past; bullied and also humiliated, that it creates a deep scar in his heart. It is, to the point that he cannot find company with anyone, he just keeps pushing everyone away. That creates a bad reputation for Mo.
The way Mo speaks with She Li, it’s considerably different from the way he speaks with his schoolmates. Somewhat more condescendingly, as if he doesn’t dare to put up resistance towards the snake.
“Are you doing this so you can use me later?” Somehow, I get the feeling that Mo has been taken advantage of and (quite severely) backstabbed in the past, that the boy is now very cautious towards She Li. Yet, he is only to be used by that malicious snake again.
She Li seems to have some knowledge about Mo prior: An isolated and bullied boy living with a single mother, struggling to pay off their debts. An easy victim. Mo cannot asks for help from anyone, and definitely doesn’t want to create more burden for his mom. He struggles and suffers alone.
Man, I don’t want to imagine how f*cked up She Li is. Who the hell visits a patient in the hospital bringing a frickin knife; throw a full can of Coke from the top floor down the yard, aiming at somebody’s head, then brushing it off with that kind of reason. If it’s not to intended to hurt Mo’s physically (and psychologically), then I don’t know what it is.

Still thinking about how much distance He Tian is trying to put between himself and his family. It’s not just cutting down on contact. It’s emphasizing on his being different time and again. When he got sick after yet another nightmare sequence, He Cheng promptly comes to pick him up to bring him to a doctor. He Tian doesn’t hide his distaste for his family — not only he tries to avoid being touched, but he’s also ready to get out of the car while it’s going and Cheng had to stop him. Later he states that He Cheng has become hateful — a type of person He Tian despises.
There’s also the way he talks to his father. Is this the only way we can communicate as a father and a son? — there’s resentment here. Also anger, weariness. He Tian clearly hates every second of being at his father’s place.
He loathes having to spend time with his step-mother, whom he intentionally calls “your wife” during the phone conversation with his dad. “Your wife” = she’s not my mother = she’s nobody to me. He loathes dealing with the security that is, in all senses, appointed by his own father to keep him grounded — practically arrested and confined to his quarters, with not a single chance of escaping. Disallowed and made powerless to make his own choices.
It’s not surprising he doesn’t take well to any indication that he’s being denied freedom to do what he wants. Just look at how He Tian’s expression darkens in the recent chapter when he sees the guards trying to drive ZZX away. It’s a mixture of everything: the way he asserts his own authority by practically declaring himself to be in power (through being the second son of the He family), the distaste towards all that reminds him of the way his family acts — of his father’s house, — towards the very notion of being controlled and scrutinized, and having to ask for permission in what is practically his own home.
And of course his response to MGS, when he mentions his unease towards He Cheng. By the by, it’s pretty hilarious that multiple people get an impression that He Cheng is a terrorist of some sorts. Jian Yi, for instance, thought he came to school to blow it up.
Back to He Tian. I am who I am, don’t bring up others / I am myself, don’t get involved in anything else. There’s so much here. I am not my brother (someone I hate, someone you think dangerous). I won’t become involved in stuff my brother is doing = I want nothing to do with his illegal activities.
And yet there’s also an undeniable deep-running bond between He Tian and his He Cheng, that becomes apparent every now and then.
Despite all the things that went sour between them, He Cheng remains the only person He Tian can rely on when he’s in a bind. As soon as there’s an indication that He Tian is unwell, He Cheng leaves his — normally of utmost importance — criminal business and comes to his aid. After all, he knows He Tian doesn’t allow himself to rely on others. He doesn’t have those others, to begin with.
He swiftly gets there when He Tian requests his help with those debt collectors who were after MGS and his mother; the fascinating thing about it is that He Cheng seems to keep his word: those people no longer appear to hound Guan Shan, just as he told he would. He kept his end of the bargain even if he didn’t have to.
This and the gradual improvement in his relationship with Mo (which started roughly after the mob fight and continued on after He Tian’s arrival) spurred a slight change in He Tian’s attitude towards his brother. He’s no longer acting like a stranger. He phones him. He doesn’t hide his budding friendship/relationship with Mo — then again in those recent issues he’s walking on air and doesn’t seem to care if anyone learns. Hell, he couldn’t be more open about it.
What’s particularly worth noting, is that He Tian actually doesn’t seem to like when someone talks ill of his brother. He subtly reproaches Mo in the subway when the latter voices his wild theory that He Cheng keeps sharks to have them eat unwanted people.
In the recent chapter, Mo is badmouthing Cheng again, talking how much he reminds him of a dead iceberg, and suggesting that He Cheng (and He Tian by extension) is keeping a bomb in his house. “I am who I am, but don’t bring up other (relationships)” = You can talk trash about me, but don’t think I’m the same as my brother (as dead as an iceberg, menacing) = Do not talk as if you know everything.
All in all, it would be curious to see how Mo would react if he knew it was He Cheng that pulled their asses out of the bind with mob fight, so I can’t help but wonder if that’s gonna be brought up. That, and She Li incident. Will He Tian let it accidentally slip? Aside from that, I’m definitely looking forward to seeing Cheng’s reaction to Mo. Will he be indifferent? Will he put him under scrutiny? Will Mo’s last name ring a bell to him? What’s more, He Cheng appears to be a sharp person with a fair deal of attention to small details. There’s no way he won’t notice those ear holes on Mo, and from there it’s easy to do the math just for whom He Tian had previously requested one-of-a-kind earrings. Also, He Cheng is the only person who knew He Tian closely before the latter became buddies with other three boys, meaning that He Cheng will most certainly spot the positive change in He Tian’s attitude. Just how long ago did he see him truly happy? Will he remark on it or will he keep the pokerface on?
And this. I wanna see this again:

Speaking about rings…
In several illustrations, He Tian is portrayed to wear two types of rings: the simple one and the complex-looking one, randomly on any fingers. Occasionally, he would wear both types, as portrayed in the pictures above.
Left illustration: Guan Shan wears the pair of ‘simple & complex’ rings. Moreover, these two have rings on their ring fingers.
Right illustration: The common type of ring He Tian is portrayed to wear.
Ring on the necklace. Convenient yet still lovely in its own way.
These two rings are similar in design, yet different in colors.
Again, He Tian wears two rings together.
Dust cheap Christmas ring grabbed from a store vs expensive Cartier engagement rings.

Can we appreciate how Momo called He Tian by his name
Not you chicken dick, not you bastard, not dogshit, no swearing added at all, but simply by his name. He doesn’t do it very often, but when he does it’s beautiful and intimate.
