He should have expected her to fight back, but it still caught him off guard and it was then that he noticed that his senses were blurring together as the alcohol burned in his veins. She managed to actually make him stumble.

“Why? Because I told you what you wanted to hear? I don’t say what you want, you get mad. I say what you want, you get even more upset, so fuck you.”

“No”, she said, her words lacking articulation. “Fuck you. Fuck you for thinking you can do exactly what Matt does. Fuck you for making me care about you and then just waking out on me. Fuck you for thinking you can just come in and out of my life like I’m some fucking train station!”

Nova’s fingers played softly at the hem of her shirt as they kissed. “it’s alright… just why the big show?”

It was embarrassing, her act of desperation simply because her ex was wandering down the hallways of the academy once more. Biting her lip, Taryn pulled away from the boy’s grasp. She barely knew him, much less had a reason to kiss him. “Um”, she said while she pulled at the sleeves of her shirt, balling the hems in her hands. “Would you believe me if I said it was a dare?”

Nova kissed her back, somewhat confused by her sudden intensity. 

Her lips lingered on his for a second, just long enough to ensure that Mason’s long legs had carried him away. Pulling back, the blonde gave him a small smile. “Sorry...”

He bit his tongue hard enough that it made him flinch and for a moment, he wondered if the reaction would be translated to her as a result of her tantruming blows. He set her down, mainly because he needed to readjust his grip on her, but made sure that he placed her against a wall and his body so she wouldn’t fall again.

“No matter what explanation I give you, you’ll take offense to it. And considering you’re drunk, it’s not like you’ll really take it all in. If you feel like talking to me again when you’re sober, I’ll think about it, but for now, I just do, Tara,” He said. “But if it makes you feel better, I’ll say I don’t care.” 

His words tore at the mental scars he’s already made, tearing them open with vigor. But this was their cycle, he’d hurt her, she’d start putting herself back together, he’d show up and everything would start all over again. It was worse then Matt and her ever were. In fact, Mason and her kinda made her and Matt look perfect. Mustering all her might, the scrawny girl gave him a shove, trying to put distance between his body and hers. “Fuck you”, she said, trying to hold it together.

“Just shhhhh”, Taryn said connecting her lips to his once more. The girl threw herself into the kiss, faking passion as Mason walked past.

“I want you to be part of my life, but I’m gonna need a little time, after this mission I will talk to them and tell them that I’m out for good” he said as he joined their foreheads. He felt bad because he knew he was lying to Taryn, but what he needed was time so she could see that he is gonna be okay and to solve all the mentor/students thing. “I promise” he said in a soft voice.

Her head dropped down until her face was buried in the crook of his neck and Taryn wrapped her arms around his waist. She knew what she was asking, and how difficult it would be not just for him, but also how the Clave would take it. But the girl knew it had been done before. And if her cousin could do it for the girl he loved, why couldn’t Matt do it for her? “Come back to me”, she told him. It was almost like she’d traveled back in time, back to his first real mission, only this time her eyes weren’t swollen shut from crying. “Please come back to me.”
