I think art should be used as an outlet for our expression of the soul, whether it be sexuality, identity, trauma, or just self indulgence. I find art that embraces any emotion of the self to be beautiful. this includes art of your fursona or ocs, or characters you love or vent art, all important.

yes, there are that many really disabled people on the internet actually
When I was less sick I used to think, "It seems like such a large portion of people on the internet are disabled, it can't possibly be that large of a percentage of the population" and then let my ableism demons tell me it was because they were faking (the same ones that told me I was faking, until I made myself really ill.)
But now that I'm sicker and wiser I realize I was logically just wrong because
The internet is disabled people's lifeline. There are more disabled people on the internet because OF COURSE. People who aren't disabled can be less chronically online because they don't have to be. This is textbook selection bias!
But actually also I was almost right, because there are way more disabled people in society than you would think! They're just systematically hidden and excluded from public spaces for abled peoples' convenience! 🙃
Anyway maybe this will help you understand and/or explain to abled friends and family.

The Miette pronunciation post remind me of a repeat situation I've had to deal with my entire life: assholes refusing to pronounce my name correctly.
I had a teacher who decided that my first name being a French name meant my last name is as well. They would pronounce my last name as though it's French, and would threaten detention anytime I refused to respond. Took my parents having a hard talk either them about this to correct her about it.
As often as not, I have to deal with assholes pronouncing my name like it's spelled, so now it has a long E (like in we) rather than sounding like a long A (like in yay). These people get angry when I correct them.
One uni instructor I had didn't like my name, so she called me Wren. She threatened to fail me if i kept refusing to reply to her or kept correcting her. I had to speak to a school official to correct her behavior. Apparently, she did this with any name that ends on a long A.
If you have a difficult time pronouncing someone's name, ask then to repeat it until you do get it right. I had a Chinese flatmate whose name was pronounced Roo-hway. I can't remember the spelling, but she said if I can't pronounce her name Ruth is acceptable. She was shocked when I practiced a couple times and got it right. My Japanese flatmate (I lived with several international students) introduced herself as Kiki, which us an easy name to pronounce, but stated my name is impossible to pronounce because of the R, and refused to learn it. She brought over several Japanese classmates for a study group once and I introduced myself. She said, again, that none of them could say my name...until one of them said she's full of shit and proceeded to pronounce my name correctly...along with the test of the other eight or nine classmates. She never brought them over again (I later learned she's just a spoiled brat), likely due to being called out in her bullshit.
So, anyway, names aren't that difficult. Some sounds I cannot say, like the inverted K for tl, so I just use a K sound instead. Some sounds are unique to specific languages, making them an impossible challenge for some. Still, do try, and stop being pissy about it.

Girl's Dress
1886-1888
United States
This dress belonged to Juliette Geneva Hollenback (1881-1917), the youngest daughter of prominent financier and philanthropist John Welles Hollenback (1834-1923). Although the dress appears to be a scaled-down version of an adult's dress, the skirt is attached to the bodice and the closures are uncomplicated, making it easier to dress a child. The fiery color and simple materials are a portent of the woman Juliette would become: an active leader in settlement work.

Evening Dress • Unidentified Maker • American • Silk velvet with silk plain weave lining
Tumblr media
How wonderful that such a well-preserved dress exists to enliven a famous portrait painting! This dress is one of my favorites for a couple of reasons – firstly, I love velvet and this silk velvet is the real deal – gorgeous. Secondly, I've seen the portrait many time at the MFA in Boston. The dress I saw in a glass case at the blockbuster Fashioned by Sargent exhibition also at the MFA.
I've read that Louise Inches was expecting her third child when she sat for this portrait and that the dress had been designed to accommodate extra panels as her figure expanded. She and Sargent got on well. Both were music lovers and accomplished musicians.

One thing that's vitally important to remember is that feeling ''weirded out'' is not a form of harm. It is a completely normal part of socializing. It is the feeling of encountering something unfamiliar. In order to be a kind person, you must learn to how to distinguish between "harmful" and "weird." And then you must accept the weird.
