i keep seeing that post about how frustrating the buff guy -> petite girl type genderbending is, and i wanted to add my two cents regarding the addition of ‘just swap pronouns and don’t change the design’ approach because i think these are two sides of the same coin, as they both fail to really delve into what i think is the most interesting aspect of this design exercise.

the reason i find genderbending to be such a fun and interesting challenge is because, if you actually want to be good at it and put thought into it, you have to really consider the character’s canon gender expression and think about what it means to them and how it reflects in their outward appearance and presentation.

is this male character buff because he likes to work out / be strong, or does he aspire to achieve conventional heteronormative male beauty?

is this female character a tomboy because she likes to express herself in a more masculine way, or is she doing it to fight gender norms?

the answers to those questions should produce very different designs!

this website loves to say that gender is a spectrum, but sometimes i genuinely wonder if people actually understand what that means. 

gender expression, much like gender, is also a spectrum, which is why keeping the character exactly the same won’t always work, in the same way that just making the character conventionally attractive won’t always work. but sometimes, a buff dude would actually just be a hot girl. lady bane, however, would 100% look exactly the same.

i make a lot of posts to the tune of "you're allowed to be horny btw" because it's becoming increasingly clear that adults being sexual in (clearly marked and blockable!) spaces is being stamped out and made out to be evil both legislatively and in the moral zeitgeist, especially among younger folks. not even in the "wait to be a horny adult online when you're An Adult" way, just an ingrained puritanical outrage response to *anything* that isn't chaste wholesome perfect all-ages allowed. it's unnerving and scary.

Encountered a 4chan text recently about a guy whose roommates started watching Arcane because one of them said there's a character in it that looks like this guy, and the resemblance was so uncanny that the roommates burst out laughing when Viktor appeared on the scene. The guy tries to act like seeing himself animated doesn't weird the hell out of him but internally gets obsessed with Viktor. He discovers pornographic fanfiction and keeps reading it purely because he's amazed that there's so goddamn many women out there genuinely horny for a sad little fictional guy who looks just like him. Then he realises that this must mean that the reason he can't get laid is definitely his personality.

So in conclusion, there's an above zero chance there's a guy out there irl who looks exactly like Viktor, but the bad news is it's a 4chan dude.

I have no idea what to do with this information either.

I need to see a picture of him or else I dont believe this! XD

I love when people comment that they didn't ship something until they read a fic I wrote. I love when bookmarks say they liked a fic of mine despite not liking the pairing depicted otherwise. I love when I'm told that someone likes my portrayal of a ship specifically. Just like being told someone didn't like a doll sculpt before they saw my doll, or didn't like a glamour item in ffxiv before they saw me use it. I'm nothing if not a simpleton who lives to try and prove statements like "[thing] doesn't work" wrong

I don’t know how to say this in a way that doesn’t sound like I’m advocating for casual cruelty or whatever but something that grates so much about this current social moment is how many people are incapable of saying they dislike something or someone without cooking up some higher morally correct reason for their dislike. Sometimes you just disliked a book. Sometimes you don’t “get” an actor or a musician. There’s nothing morally wrong with your girl’s fuckass boyfriend he’s literally just annoying and you’re annoyed that you have to pretend you like him when you know he’ll be history in six months. It’s fine. You don’t need to justify your dislike.

The majority of people are horny. People are always going to be horny. You cannot stop people from being horny. Throughout history there have been extensive attempts to suppress horniness and they haven’t worked. You can be mad about it all you want but horniness will prevail against any adversity. i cannot possibly overstate the psychological damage of growing up being abused in a way that is considered so disgusting as to be literally unspeakable and treated as such.
