Headcanon time

The tldr is that the act of weaving flowers and offering them to someone is a sacred/important tradition in rito culture. Now on to the very long explanation about it, including some Research.

Something that always caught my eyes about Rito Village is their Hylia statue--or rather, the flowers decorating it.

Those are very vibrant flowers, the kind that

You wouldn't expect to see in such a cold place;

I didn't remember seeing in the Hebra region beforehand.

I eventually went on a little trip around Hebra and the area surrounding it. As I had expected, I couldn't find any flowers of the same color. The common palette is light white, yellow, blue and purple. Some examples:

For the sake of accuracy, I did find one patch of bright yellow flowers (I think somewhere around the Rito Stable), but it was the only one I could locate anywhere near the Rito.

As you can see, they're not even the same type of flower on the statue (on top of being scarce to begin with).

My next consideration was that flowers of that color simply didn't exist in the game's scenary. However, after some searching, I did find flowers that look pretty similar!

All the way in the Faron region. In fact, Faron and Akkala had the most variation in colors (pinks, red, oranges, yellows...). So bright red and yellow flowers do exist in the game, just not in the Hebra region. Why, then, would the Rito decorate the Hylia statue with those flowers?

My headcanon is that, since they come from a region with such harsh weather, finding flowers for someone is considered an act of reverence/affection. It requires time, flying skills, attention and focus (to spot the little things). The brighter the flower is, the bigger is the offering, as it shows that you were willing to fly far just for those flowers, all while being careful not to crush/bruise them on the track back.

When it comes to the flowers to Hylia specifically, I like to think it's a village effort. More specifically, the adults find the flowers, while the little chicks weave them. This works well bc the adults, having a developed body, have an easier time flying long distances. As for the kids, their little wings are much more appropriate for the delicate process of making a flower crown.

So yeah, to the Rito, giving flowers holds a lot of meaning and it's supposed to show your dedication and care for someone. That is all <3

PS: Sorry I don't have more in depth details on locations and such, I've had pictures for this headcanon stored for several months, and didn't bother taking notes along the way.
