A New Beginning
Hello friends!
I blog today with joyous news: A NEW EDITION OF HAMILTON SIPS!!! (APPLAUSE APPLAUSE APPLAUSE).
http://hamiltonsips.tumblr.com/
I like to think that Sips are bigger than any one person. In that spirit, even though I won't be around to communicate all of the breath taking ups and downs of the on goings at the McEwen Green Cafe, I believe this new, brave Sip Enthusiast will do a wonderful job!

We've come to the end
Hello everyone,
I write to you today with somber news: it is the end of Sips for the year.  And since I’m graduating, it may in fact be the end of Sip related blog posts.  I have contacted a potential successor, but only time will tell if they want to follow in my footsteps. It’s a long, sometimes disgusting path, so please don’t hold it against them if they should decline. Speaking of this journey: there have been ups, there have been downs, there was a lot of honeydew and cilantro, but overall I don’t think I’m alone in saying this has been a great experience.  Before I go I want to give a few final shout outs and props that I have unfortunately neglected.
Chris Lepre and Becka Gaines: For supporting me in my initial endevours, and for being really awesome. None of this would have been possible without you.  I’m sorry that I haven’t gotten to see either of you during senior week, but I’m sure our paths will cross again someday. hope you haven’t been disSipointed with the blog this semester :) (thank Chris for that one)
I’d also like to take the time to once again thank Amy, Sam, Madeline, Mystery Girl, Doug, Maggie, Julian, Chris Richardson, Caitlin, Fishy, Ruby, Dave, Ligas, Clark, and Ben, and the rest of Babbitt 26 friends who I may have neglected. It’s been real. Thanks for putting up with near-constant Sip related humor for the better part of 8 months.
Since San Diego, based on my previous visits, doesn’t appear to have any Sips, I unfortunately won’t be able to continue the Sip blog.  However, if graduate school doesn’t kill me, I will try to find time to blog about other pressing matters, probably still food or game related.
Thanks so much for reading,
Dan Mermelstein

Orange carrot This was pretty good. Everyone I was with was afraid to try it because they thought it was radioactive. I think that's stupid. If it was radioactive and I had that much, I think i would have a pretty good chance of getting super powers. But maybe my friends were afraid of getting a crappy superpower like the ability to communicate with dogs. A lot of people probably think "you're crazy, that would be a great super power" but those people are fools what do they think their dog is going to tell them?? The secret of how the universe was formed?? No. They'll probably just tell you they want to go outside, or that they saw a squirrel. Except now you'll automatically pay more attention to them because you can understand them. Wow, I really hope that Sip wasn't radioactive

SPECIAL: Chocolate banana whoopee pie. I don't usually get desserts at the dining halls because they make me fall asleep. But I have a soft spot for chocolate banana so I finally caved and tried one. THIS WAS THE BEST THING TO HAPPEN TO ME SINCE MY PIZZA LUNCHABLE CAME WITH FOUR PIZZAS!!! The bread was fluffy and moist and just sweet enough and just banana enough to mix perfectly with the chocolate frosting, which was equally sweet and fluffy. It was so good, I forced myself to NOT have another because there was just no way it was going to be as good. I would rather keep the memory of a perfect dessert than ruin it by overeating. I thought about taking a few to go, but I was afraid they would harden. I regret nothing (except for the crappy picture)

The new toaster caught on fire in commons. It's comforting to know that in a world of change, some things always stay the same

Honeydew and cilantro Well team, looks like we're back on the melon cart. The apple based Sips were a nice surprise, but I think it's time to face the facts. We will probably be having a lot more honeydew cilantro in the future. It's gotten to that time of year where everyone involved wants to just be outside and not do anymore work, and so in the light I appreciate bon apetite's concerted effort to keep the Sips as bland as possible to force people to spend less time debating them and spend more time outside. Thank you, bon apetite. The Sip was a 2.8 out of 5, pretty mehh

New kid on the block in commons In case you haven't heard the hot news on campus this week, commons finally got a new toaster. And while change is often a good thing in food industry, I'm not sure I'm totally ready for it. I mean, I was so used to the old toaster, I always knew what to expect. I knew that if I put my toast in the toaster, it would take three minutes and come back slightly warm. But my schedule was built on that. I knew that if I got up three minutes early, I could have slightly warm bread rather than room temperature bread. NOW, I hear the amount of time the toaster takes and hiw warm and crispy the bread gets actually depends on the setting??? WHAT? Now I don't know how much time to allocate to toasting in the morning. Should I get up a full 2 minutes 30 seconds early, or just 1 minute 1 15? Everyone knows you can't change the toaster setting once it's running, or else the bagel watchers will descend on you and inflict their stern glare of dissaproval. Sometimes I just feel like commons doesn't care about my routine...

Apple sweet potato and ginger. Well, it looks like we've finally emerged from bon apetite's melon phase. They must have run out. I hope they weren't preparing for an ice age. The sip was okay. Decent even. But again, nothing to write home about giving the world class pedigree that apple and sweet potato have together. O well, as long as they keep using fruits 2.9 out of 5

Apple ginger Apple Sips are always a good way to start a meal at mcewen. Unfortunately, this Sip just never lived up to it's pre consuming billing. It had all of the right aspects on paper, but just didn't perform. It wasn't awful, just definitely not worth a top five pick if you know what I'm saying? My best comparison would be oj mayo drafted 3rd overall by the grizzlies. He's been serviceable, but not worth the 3rd pick considering Russell westbrook and Kevin love went right after. A solid contributor, but never an all star. Overall this sip gets a 3.2 out of 5. Pretty poor compared to it's billing as the next apple sweet potato cinnamon.

Cantaloupe cilantro Not really sure how they made this green since cantaloupe is usually orange. Maybe they found a new, rare breed of cantaloupe only found in upstate new york! And maybe we can start breeding these exotic fruits and finally bring stable industry and long term jobs back to the region!!! Or maybe they uses honeydew and called it cantaloupe. Nah, definitely the first hypothesis. Either way, the Sip wasn't very good, although it did managed to keep some melon consistency despite lacking any taste which might distinguish between genus of melon. 2/5

Honey dew tarragon and Whey protein Another Whey protein sip. The Sip wizards are continuing their attempts to make us get extra protein. It's important if you want to get yoked. I would guess there's a little sweetening of the pot by admissions to try to make everyone yoked to make our campus even better looking. Next thing they'll do is replace the stairs with climbing ropes. Anyways as for the Sip, it wasn't very good. Unlike the other two Whey Sips, you could actually taste the whey. It's surprisingly not a very good taste or texture. Overall, 1.5 out of 5. But I still like the whey protein idea. Just didn't quite come out right this time. Two out of three isn't bad

Video
Don't look now everyone, but this just became a VLOG!!! I haven't felt this good since I heard played with legos for the first time. I'd like to thank creative genius Dave Borczuk for the idea, cinematographic master Clark Louie for the excellent film work, as well as Ben Ligas and Dr. Sam Zimmerman for their audience and enthusiasm.  One small step for Sip, one giant leap for Sip enthusiasts everywhere!!! Watch for us on wall street, it's only a matter of time.
Oh yeah, and the Sip was a honeydew basil spritzer (what?). in case you had difficulty comprehending the video, which may be the case since it was the first Sip VLOG post ever, the Sip was not very good. 2 out of 5.

Coconut banana and Whey protein
The Whey protein makes it’s triumphant return!! I for one am a big proponent of the integration of underrepresented Sip ingredients. It is much harder to successfully obtain and integrate something like "whey protein" than a more common ingredient like "orange". And anything that gets Chris Richardson to try the Sip can't be all bad, right? Anyways, the Sip was pretty good. At first blush, the initial taste was pretty good, but the after taste was really weird.  But, like so many Sips before it, this Sip was just a little magical.  When I tried it a second time, the after taste was gone!! It was like the after taste was a mirage created by the Sip wizards to prevent the unfaithful from enjoying the fruits of their labor.  Well, THIS Sip enthusiast was not to be denied! I revised my original rating of 3.5 to a 4.2.  Definitely a solid Sip.

Orange ginger The weather has declared today happy polar vortex anniversary day so that we don't forget how much the winter sucked! Anyways, this Sip was okay. Some positives, like not having a weird texture, and some negatives, like being weirdly sour. Overall, 2.7 out of 5

Sweet potato apple nutmeg
Hello friends!
I hope you’re all enjoying the wonderful weather! I know I love sudden onset downpours! I hear we might even get some snow today! I think if that happens I might actually start crying (out of pure excitement obviously).
Anyways, on to the Sip. When I saw see potato apple, I was pretty excited. If you’ll recall a long long time ago on a campus totally covered in snow the best Sip to date was apple and sweet potato
I even went on record saying I was expecting great things from this Sip. Unfortunately, like so many promising Sips before, it just didn't work. It tasted slimy and like the apple to sweet potato ratio was wayyyy outta wack. I give this Sip a 2.0 out of 5. Some Sips are born into greatness. And of that number, some of them inevitably exist to make other Sips look better
