palamedes sextus was so real for writing an insane sequel to a shitty erotica book on the walls of his fucked up little river bubble prison. nothing else going on in there, just the same awful romance novel on repeat 600 times and his own little silly headcanons scrawled all over the nearest surface. outside there’s a million screaming ghosts and the only way to stay sane is to hyperanalyze the same story for eight months. that’s literally exactly what it feels like. he gets it

I don’t know why I’ve never zeroed in on this line before, but right after Gideon’s gotten Jeannemary out of the facility and is trying to figure out where to go?

“She had to get her to safety. She wanted her longsword and she wanted Harrow.”

I cannot get over how even in the middle of complete panic, when she needs safety her mind goes to her sword and to Harrow in the same breath.

actually one of the craziest things about harrow and gideon's relationship is the fact that they're like, unhealthily obsessed with each other but also both think the other does not care as much as they do. gideon literally died for harrow and thinks that harrow hates her so much that she erased her from her memory. harrow lobotomized herself because she couldn't allow herself to destroy gideon's soul. and they're both still just like, "she could never love me." ARE YOU BOTH FUCKING STUPID??????? (the answer is yes)

I've been thinking about what to call our beloved ginger narrator. Born Gideon, known to Harrow as Gideon, named after her mother's war cries against the man who loved and killed her. Died Gideon. Woke up, found the father who never knew about her, and was bequeathed a name—her old name, really, but this time after her father's oldest friend and loyalest companion. Translated to the language of their people, proud and dead—dead because her father killed them—dead because the people in power wanted to kill him as they had killed so many of their people. Alive because she is alive, carrying on the line at last. Does she want it? Does she know it? Can the two of them, father and daughter, learn finally to heal old wounds? Do wounds ever heal, or do the lingering scars prefer to keep their names?

I'm thinking...until we can hear what she wants with certainty...her name is Kiriona. But it wasn't always. She was once Gideon Nav. Gideon died an orphan; Kiriona has a father and a gaping wound in her heart. For events that happened books one and two, she's Gideon. For all else, she's Kiriona. For me, at least. Would love thoughts on if that sounds appropriate.
