Ten Things I Like About Being Trans
(requested by anon <3)
the trans community! it’s really nice to talk to other trans people. sometimes cis people just can’t understand, but i know my community is always going to be there for me.
my understanding of gender. i went from thinking there were two genders, to thinking there were three, to thinking there’s a spectrum, to finally realizing that there isn’t a way to visualize gender that serves everyone. gender is gender, is gender is gender.
if i were in a book this would be my character development arc. my transition brought out a ton of other nonrelated (as well as related) issues that wouldn’t have addressed otherwise.
being queer!
writing trans characters! i write fanfic and would love to write a completely original book one day with a trans protagonist and other trans characters. i’ve been told i write trans characters really well, and i know that is because of my experience.
the colors of the flag. they’re really pretty, okay? so soothing. i loved them before i knew they were the trans pride colors, and i love them even more now.
helping other trans people! being a resource! running this blog, talking to a friend, leading GSA—whatever the method, i love that i can share some insight that may help a trans person accept themselves. to know that no matter their presentation, no matter if they dysphoria or not, no matter their name or pronouns, no matter if they’re agab-aligned or not—they are trans enough!
headcanoning all my favorite characters as trans. y’all can take trans Katara and trans Sokka from my cold dead hands.
realizing presentation ≠ gender ≠ pronouns. this took time, even after coming out—but i’m so glad i fully understand these concepts now. they’re important for everyone to know, trans or not.
realizing that everyone’s situation is different. there are no universal experiences. this is true in the trans community, and it’s true everywhere else too. it’s such an important lesson—one we tend to go “yeah, of course,” to but don’t let really sink in. it’s so incredibly vital to keep this in mind when interacting with people.

I thought this was funny, but that’s probably a taste of my odd sense of humor. I’m not quite sure if anybody caught the reference.
