Ohh to be under the watchful eye of the honored one...

A Japanese fan of JJK pointed out [HERE] how the pattern in Gojo's eyes is very similar to the pattern of the glass panel in episode 1 of season 2, the one Utahime is standing before.

This is interesting because the glass panel was given significant screen time to be shown and focus was put on it.

And in Episode 2, Gojo himself talks about his technique and how difficult it is to cause massive destruction whilst also taking into consideration the vector around him (objects, people).

This explanation is accompanied by the vision of Utahime running through the mansion as its falling apart, indicating how Gojo destroyed it but also went through the difficult task of ensuring Utahime is completely uninjured.

Utahime is also seen to be in the center of the destruction, under the very same glass panel.

The glass panel feels like an eerie but beautiful metaphor towards Gojo who basically plays God (the honoured one) in JJK verse, capable of watching everything around him..👏😮

The pattern (a chrysanthemum motif) used here is called kikuka-monsho and is of much significance in the history of Japan. It was commonly used by the imperial family and nobility.

Personally, i think this was a very intentional touch by MAPPA and ofc Gege since he's involved in the creative process of the anime..🤔

Kill the hero

Noragami Chapter 103.1 Spoilers!

Suzuha, Tsugaha, Sakura…the number of characters we knew by name and who actually ended their lives in Noragami is less than the number of fingers on our hands. Adachitoka doesn’t kill their heroes and certainly not the main ones. Until now.

 If we’ve actually seen Kazuma die, and there’s no reason to think we haven’t, he’ll be the first of those really important characters we’ll have to say goodbye to.

I regret it, because he was a character that was incredibly interesting. Totally positive, devoted, kind and friendly, and at the same time capable of acts that were far beyond the boundaries of commonly accepted morality. And also someone who dragged so many flags of death behind him that he could wallpaper an entire room with them.

Kazuma was an ideal candidate for death. It is this type of hero, with a bright white character sprinkled with dark streaks of bad deeds, who rarely live to see the end of the story. But this awareness does not change the fact that I mourned his death. His departure evokes another emotion in me, stronger than sadness, and that is the fear of what will happen. Adachitoka, if they are killing, they have a very good reason to do so. Each death moved the plot forward, each departure of a character had a significant effect on the behavior and decisions of the other heroes.

At the end of the last chapter, Yato was wounded and exhausted to death, but happy because he felt that he managed to protect those he loved, but the moment he understood that Kazuma was going to die, his emotions turned into absolute despair and a wish not to be. Kazuma was his best and for a very long time, also his only friend. And suddenly he’s gone, and there’s no way to stop Yato from believing that it’s all his fault. Because guilt is a attire that Yato wears almost constantly.  

 Even though it was Kazuma who literally forced himself on this suicide mission, knowing the end it could bring.

 But the one who will suffer the guilt of Kazuma’s death and the pain of his loss even more is Bishamon. She tried so hard to protect him, he meant so much to her. Her blessed vessel, a person as close as if he were a part of her. How could she forgive herself that he died?

And how could she forgive Yato? Her hatred for him is like an old acquaintance. A habit that is hard to get rid of. It will be much easier for her to immerse herself in familiar emotions to overcome the unbearable pain than to think about what exactly happened and why. 

 And this time there is no way to appease her hatred.

Yato, horrified and on his knees in despair...

Hiyori, who's not Hiyori anymore with that peaceful, unaware expression...

Yato, who can't even call Hiyori by her own name anymore...

She really said: I genuinely like you for who you are as a person, not for how agreeable or useful you can be for me

This panel of the discussion between Izanami and Father really stuck with me this chapter. He brings up the ability to cripple a god and in the same block immediately switched to discussion of the Koto no Ha and how it interests him.

Sounds like what he taught Kugaha.

Another major point in this chapter was the dialogue over how Father and Izanami mask the Ayakashi to puppeteer them to their wants, they do not fully materialize Ayakashi but rather, they “repurpose” them.

Yato mentions something about not being Fathers “puppet” after he banishes the Ayakashi in chapter 15.

Currently thinking about how Father said that cull the herd was “the only wish he’s been able to wish in his entire life” and yet we see him as a child first and foremost wondering WHY the gods just watch human suffering, when they bear a human face and hands and eyes.

Yato is the antithesis of Heaven’s callousness and carelessness with human lives.

His internal drive has always to been to make people happy, he MOURNED the unnecessary deaths of people, he is not an embodiment of Father’s superficial desire for destruction but a god who truly cares for humanity and their sorrows, exactly the kind of god that a young Father would have wanted to see!!!!!!

Breaking the "Yaboku" curse

Yo I'm still clinging on to the Tsukiyomi theory this late in the game so hear me out

1. According to the mythos, Tsukiyomi was banished from heaven and his sister Amateresu for murdering someone over a petty disagreement.

2. Yato is often associated with moon imagery, culling/ cutting, water, and other adjacent images like snow and the color white. Even the Sakura is symbolic of the dual-sided nature of beauty and violence. He follows his loved ones around (like how Tsukiyomi followed Amateresu around in the mythos) and embraces different phases of his life in the form of embracing certain (albeit strange) fashion trends. Even the name Yaboku means "Night Child."

3. Yato is an unknown god but has lived longer than most other dieties we see in the series. Knowing now that the Crafter was undead all this time, it's growing less and less likely that he was Yato's true lifeline that entire time, as well as more likely that dieties younger than him wouldn't recognize him, because they are younger than him or have reincarnated since then. Besides, we know that the "banishment" of Tsukiyomi likely means Yato got killed (like Ebisu).

4. We see the Crafter stole the Koto No Ha when he left the underworld, and the Koto No Ha gave new names that couldn't be undone by heaven, but abided by the underworld's rules, meaning that the Crafter could have used it to "name" Yaboku, causing that name to get him out of the underworld even if his true identity was Tsukiyomi all along.

5. Since the Koto no Ha is broken, it could also mean that the name "Yaboku" is gone.

6. But we aren't done yet! Perhaps to reclaim his position as Tsukiyomi, he is now being tested. Throughout the story Yato has matured through his friendships and love. He went from selfish and preserving his own life to being willing to risk his life. But the one thing he never did was: Cut ties with Hiyori.

7. Perhaps, if Yato cuts ties with Hiyori, it could save her life and return her to the near shore. But he would have to make a sacrifice out of love, not selfish desire to be seen as a god of fortune, or take vengeance on his maker.

8. I therefore think that this will be resolved as Amateresu returns, as Yato cuts ties to save Hiyori, that something will happen to restore him to what he used to be. After all, isn't it strange that Amateresu showed up outside the underworld, telling them to call Yato by "his true name" with a soft smile on her face, while later on when we see her she is absolutely unhinged and angry? She is involved in this deeper than i think they realize.

So yeah, I'm holding out. Yato must cut ties with the person he cherishes the most as a true act of selflessness to redeem himself from the crime he committed as Tsukiyomi.

Iki Family Origin (ig??)

Hi guys. It's an old topic but i guess it's interesting even until now.

Honestly, i was looking for Tsukuyomi crumbs (lol) and then i read how Iki was the first clan to build Tsukuyomi a shrine. At first i thought it was a coincidence- while Tsukuyomi's first shrine was on Iki Island (they are said to be an island with full of shrines). I never really look up much further about Iki.

And then i found that according to Kenzoki- during Kenzo Period, the era where humans start to lead a nation with emperor title. Legend has it Tsukuyomi has posessed someone and told the people to worship him, then good life with pleasure will be theirs. The people then built a shrine for him- had Oshiminosukune, known as Lord of Iki Prefecture (壱岐県主, Iki no Agatanushi, you can also say them as Iki's first Ancestor) to serve Tsukuyomi.

So, where's the connection?

Interesting enough- 壱岐県主 (Iki no Agatanushi, the Lord of Iki Prefecture) the kanji of Iki they written in the history, 壱岐 (Iki) has the same kanji with Hiyori's surname. 壱岐ひより (see attachment)

Coincidence? I think not. Lol.

While at it, Iki Family (on the manga) canonically being told to have this ability to "sense" things other people can't (said Iki Masaomi, Hiyori's brother) Iki Grandma confirmed this, added Sayuri (Hiyori's Mom) also sensitive to the farshore.

We also know that Hiyori gave Yato a mini-shrine. Could that be foreshadowing for her family line is actually Tsukuyomi's servant?

Hiyori is now dead and Yato turned her into his shinki- known as Shiro (a beautiful sakura dagger) that is now, serving Yato as her master.

The Soul Call and Yato’s Names

I just reread Chapter 37 where little Amaterasu appears and tells Kofuku that a living human can recall Yato from Yomi by calling his “true name.”

The panel above really bugs me, though. First of all, how does Amaterasu even know about the name “Yaboku”? Nobody but Father calls him that, so unless she’s been watching very closely, she wouldn’t know.

Second, why would Hiyori calling Yato “Yaboku” make him happy? “Yaboku” is the name his abuser called him, the name under which he had to commit atrocities against his wishes. “Yaboku” is the past he’s trying to move on from. I know some have speculated that Yato would be happy because Hiyori would have discovered his true self and accepted him anyway, but I don’t think that really takes into account the dynamics of Yato’s abuse and Father’s control over him. Yato has never shown any desire, before or after this chapter, to be called Yaboku. But we do know that a god can have more than one “true name.” That’s referenced a bunch when Hiyori is trying to research Yato, but also right in this chapter:

I really strongly suspect that Amaterasu knows Yato by a different name, and that’s what she thinks would make him happy. I’m not saying it’s necessarily “Tsukuyomi,” because WHO KNOWS. At this point Yato could be anyone, but I do think he used to be someone that Amaterasu knew; I do think Father suppressed his original name and called him “Yaboku;” and I do think that if Yato’s true name is called, he’ll remember his life from before Father was controlling him.

I know at this point it’s very unlikely for the Tsukuyomi theory to be true (I can still dream tho) but I keep thinking about it and just how funny that would be.

Like I just know Yato and Yukine would have an absolute come apart about it not because “holy shit Yato is tsukuyomi” but because “holy shit you mean to tell me we’ve been trying to make this absolute dumpster fire of a god into a well known and loved god of fortune WHEN HE WAS LITERALLY TSUKUYOMI THE WHOLE TIME!?”
