I caught a glimpse of one of my shards sweeping the leaves off of his porch. I was not there, but I could feel the fall breeze, I saw the red and orange trees, and felt the comforting familiarity of the cycle of nature.

The thought that I will return to the surface some day, to enjoy being alive again, fills me with joy.

I'd thank him, but I'm not sure he actually knows what we are.
