This blogger watched friends dive into the creation process so heartily and determinedly that they all but disappeared from the writing/gaming/artistic side of their fandom for YEARS while they worked to make the archive happen.

This blogger remembers the sense of giddy wonder that there would possibly be LAWYERS involved, willing to defend our right to create these works, and not leave us hanging at the mercy of corporate legal teams.

This blogger is aware that she reads between twenty to fifty books’ worth of material every year on AO3, and is never REQUIRED to pay a penny for the privilege of getting access.

This blogger is aware that she will not ever see advertisements on AO3, and that her personal data and reading preferences won’t be sold to advertisers in order to raise the money that AO3 needs to pay for the services they provide.

This blogger is aware that AO3 is, and has always been, a labor of love; by fans, for fans, and not for profiting off fans – and this is what makes it unique in the whole of the media universe.

You know how often I come across people who are surprised people ship Steven and Spinel together? Then they have the audacity to say “but why would you ship them when Connie is right there?” Excuse me? Have you people never been in a fandom before? Like, ever? People will ship who they want because perhaps, just perhaps, they like the main character together with someone else better than what the show intends? 

I’m probably going to get a lot of hate, but Spinel is a much better character than Connie in my opinion. She’s a three dimensional character with flaws that a vast majority of us relate to. When’s the last time anyone related to Connie’s character? Answer me that. I can tell you myself - season 1. Why? Because I actually did relate to her as a character back then, but then they ended up butchering her character and character development, and for what? Just to be the boring love interest? Ha ha, no thanks.

You can ship Connie with Steven all you want, I don’t care, but a lot of us just see a better ship dynamic in Steven and Spinel. And that’s why we ship them. Some people prefer things outside of canon, and that’s been an accepted thing up until recently. Why? I have no clue, it probably stems from social media and the sheep mentality that people follow. Seriously, just accept that some people don’t like the ships that you do and move on, it’s that simple.
