Ever since i was a little girl I have wanted to fight in battle and receive a grave but concealable injury and continue fighting bravely til the end and get reunited with my comrades and then smile and cough up blood then die smiling

One thing that MASSIVELY pisses me off is how fainting is shown in media. It’s always the person sways a little, collapses in one movement, and then is unconscious for like… fucking ages??? They wake up hours later tucked under a blanket and it’s acted like that’s normal. It’s NOT. A person that’s fainted should be back with you pretty quickly, actually:

I had an experience in my last work place where I fainted, but because it looks so different to how it’s shown in film and TV my managers had no idea what had happened. Here’s a comparison of usual media vs my actual fainting that they were all confused by-

Films, TV shows, plays etc:

1) Person goes “oh goodness” or something similar whilst holding hand to chest

2) eyes roll back, gracefully falls to the floor

3) nearby people see the poor fainted person, pick them up, put them on a bed or sofa

4) person comes to hours or even days later with no idea what happened and everyone else is just like “oh good you’ve woken up 🙂”

My usual fainting experience:

1) Everything starts spinning. Incapable of making words as my sole focus is on trying to get myself to the ground ASAP

2) Stumble to floor/chair/ anything I can lean against

3) Quick violent slump as actual faint occurs. There is no dainty falling- the whole body has hit shut down. Usually smack my head on the floor if I haven’t managed to get myself somewhere soft

4) Aware of surroundings almost immediately, but takes a few seconds to fully come back round

5) Carefully sit back up and explain to everyone going “what the fuck happened” that I fainted, and no, I do not need smelling salts actually.

Goals

He closed his eyes, leaning backwards until gravity pulled him to the ground naturally. I wonder how he manages to stay so calm with no idea of where his future is going. Not having plans, I can understand that, but not being able to make plans? I can tell Lysandre is upset, at least.

"Four-point-oh." Theodora Graves, the shining star of her family, barely above the poverty line. It's only natural that good grades would be important to somebody whose entire family went back to school following her example. I like Toto, she's got this sort of... influence on people because she's... I dunno, chill? My dad used to hate when she came over. I thought it was because she's white, but nope, Dad apparently hates poor people. Well, hated. He's gotten over it. Still though.

Lucas opened his eyes again and signed something to Lysandre with a vicious grin, to which Lysandre responded by punching him in the arm, eliciting a tiny squawk, the loudest noise I've heard Lucas make in weeks. I can't wait to see his face when he learns that Toto actually knows sign language. He may even get a whole word out. Bet it's gonna be a swear.

"I wanna learn to cook. I mean, not just fancied-up versions of boxed meals. I wanna be able to cook without having to use the same base recipe every time I do anything vaguely pasta-related." I like Jenny. He's a good guy. He even has a good sense of humor about being named after a videogame character and getting called Jenny. He used to insist people call him Nova, but once he got over his own ego, he went all out on the jokes. I think his cooking is pretty good already. I bet it's gonna be great once he gains some confidence in it.

I follow the example given by Lucas, and fall backwards onto the grass. It's a tough question. I reach up at a cloud, the bits of nail polish that haven't chipped off yet glittering.
