      SOFT STRUM OF STRINGS expertly plucked across his harp in a melody as enchanting as the sunrise itself. or, perhaps, as enchanting as azem herself who sits so close besides him; her soul so beautiful to see as he regales her with lyrics scribed just for her that leave his mouth as hymns in her name. it fills him with an incredible light, to be here with her like this; in this soft moment, his heart && smile filled with saccharine happiness he doubts he’ll ever have the pleasure of feeling more intensely than with she.

      ah. but he isn’t with azem now. && he isn’t his old self anymore.

      the words are the same && yet the song feels like ash in his mouth in comparison, poured out for this shade of azem in the same melodious voice. though his smile is semi faded, saddened by the reminder that she is her && yet she is also not. yes, she is accepted as another being but that soul reminds him so brilliantly that she is gone. gone && not coming back except at the excruciating price of oblivion to this shade && all of her people. living beings. part of him cannot help the selfishness that pulls at the strings of his heart the same as his harp — a delicate thrum of intoned ‘what ifs’ that make him wonder if his brethren’s idea might be worth it. always, it ends the same, no, no, it couldn’t be worth it. && azem likely wouldn’t want it thus. 

      perhaps, if he had been able to give his life to zodiark when he had meant to, this may have not happened to begin with. ah, yet again useless as ever.

      sad smile turns to her as his song ends, ever one to hide his true feelings despite the tiredness of ten thousand years behind glowing violet eyes.
