So, it's been a little over a year since I got my MR Urban Assault, which has been my 'go-to' everyday pack since then. It might just be confirmation bias, but I feel like I've seen a few enquiries about this packl recently, and I thought I'd share my thoughts after some extended use: It's worked well as the pack I was looking for. It's been a simple-ish, versatile bag that looks cool as hell and was a lot less expensive than other options in the size category. The interior has been fine for my use but I can see why people would have issues with it. The organisation suits me - I like the option to move pouches between different packs - it's simple and versatile. Some folks like admin compartments and features; they won't like this bag. If I carried a laptop more often then I'd be looking for more protection than you get here. The straps and frame are good at what they do. They're quick to don and doff, easy to fit and get comfortable. They start to drag after a couple of hours. They suck if you're carrying more than roughly 10kg. I do think this bag looks cool as hell. I like the clean exterior and I think bottle pockets and compression straps might ruin it (give me a Scape Artist so I can find out). At the same time I'm not surprised by how many people I've seen adding velcro to the lid, as I have. It sucks that the new version isn't stick-it compatible, not because everyone needs a stick-it but because the loops are a great spot for a carabiner and I use one all the time. I know not everyone has liked this pack and I'm also aware of it's shortcomings. I'd encourage everyone (as always) to make their own judgement about the design. If you don't think it's what you need then that's fine. Otherwise, it could be the pack for you.

Spent some time today walking around Dartington estate testing out my new Tarahumara pack. First impression is of a small but capable pack with a very comfortable harness. Interested to see what I can do with this when the summer comes and carrying an extra layer becomes less important.

Loadout: Dartmoor Winter Hike
I particularly love it when a regular reader and guest contributor decides to share the contents of their pack. Here’s a recent loadout from Jed Edwards…

Spent a bit time playing with my Triple 7 Gear MK7 pouch. It lives in my bag as a supplement to my regular EDC. I like a simple interior in my bags which allows me to grab and drop pouches like this into whatever bag I need for the day. Today I took out a couple of less used items and added my new Leatherman Wave.
