SPACE INVADERS VII - THE GIFT
21–23 March 2019 Cholula, Mexico
the term gift can refer to any item or act of service that makes the other happier or less sad
Tumblr media
Space Invaders is an ongoing project that takes over a chosen location and brings visual art, performance, music, research and urban planning together. It uses location itself as a starting point to make something special, temporal and site-specific; something which can never reappear exactly the same. Each year Space Invaders has a new theme and theoretical starting point related to space and time and their narratives at hand. In 2019 the theme is gift, something that refers to giving and kindness, but that can also have abusive or manipulative purposes. Art in public and semi-public space can be interpreted as a gift - given to someone without the expectation of payment in return, but as a gift it is not always a wanted one. An unwanted gif is known as a white elephant.
The physical space is always crucial for Space Invaders but at the same time the situations that become present and visible through the works of art are just as important. The event focuses how to create artworks related to the space activated, as well as the historical context of exhibiting art, hierarchical structures, and social questions. It also questions the traditional roles of the curator, producer, and artist, suggesting new ways to co-work in productions and is based on collective working and thinking together.
In the 7th edition of Space Invaders a group of artists from Finland, Mexico and from the past Space Invaders events will be presented in Cholula, Mexico in Proceso Abierto, Mercado Negro, Impronta Lab, Casa Canis and Azotacalles.
Artists: Andrea Coyotzi Borja | How to Life | Martinez | Raimo Saarinen | Vappu Jalonen | Marcelino Barsi | Mayra Morales | Alejandro Osorio | Gerardo Montes de Oca | Dana Neilson | Sara Kärpänen | Tapilapi | Raúl Aguilar & Marcela Boquez | Nina Fiocco
Curators: Anna Jensen & Eliisa Suvanto
Space Invaders VII - The Gift is kindly supported by Finnish Cultural Foundation, Arts Promotion Center Finland and Frame Contemporary Art Finland, and realised in collaboration with Azotacalles, Impronta Lab and Proceso Abierto

This year the theme Living Together is based on Judith Butler recent writings about precariousness and grievability.
This year the already sixth editions of Space Invaders is realized together with Uusix in Kyläsaari where artists are able to explore the old industrial area. The event brings visible
how the city of Helsinki is coping with the leftover materials to be recycled. Kyläsaari can be seen as a non-place right next to the lively city space, demanding development and new activities.
Space Invaders has throughout the years been a platform for emerging – both local and international – artists and performers to develop their practice but also a place for artists from different fields, career steps and countries to meet and discuss. The project by Anna Jensen and Eliisa Suvanto has been previously organized in Pori (2013 & 2014), Espoo (Otaniemi, 2015 & Matinkylä, 2016) and Tampere (Hiedanranta, 2017).
Participants: Alina Autio, Alina Belishkina, Andrea Coyotzi Borja, Erno-Erik Raitanen, Liina Kuittinen, Lotta Esko, Maria Mastola, Mira Simon, Nelli Ruotsalainen, nynnyt, Parsa Kamehkhosh, to kosie, Silja Eriksson, Valeria Nekhaeva, Vappu Jalonen
Space Invaders is executed in collaboration with Aalto University, Academy of Fine Arts – University of the Arts Helsinki, PUBLICS and Uusix. The project is kindly supported by the Uusimaa Regional Fund of the Finnish Cultural Foundation. The opening drinks provided by Hailuodon Panimo.
Program:
Wednesday, 23 May
3–4pm Space Invaders opening in Kyläsaari
5–7pm PUBLICS: snacks and drinks (Hailuoto organic brewery), performances by Liina Kuittinen and to kosie
Thursday and Friday, 24–25 May 11am–4pm Exhibition open in Kyläsaari
Saturday, 26 May
11am–4pm Exhibition open in Kyläsaari
Speakers’ Corner Open platform to give a public speech. Theme and topic are free but we hope that each talk will make the world a bit better.

Space Invaders V - Sietokyky / Tolerance
(FIN)
18.–21.5.2017 Hiedanranta, Lielahden kartano, Lielahdenkatu 10

18.–21.5.2017 Hiedanranta, Lielahti mansion, Lielahdenkatu 10
In May 2017 the fifth Space Invaders exhibition-event will be taking over Tampere and more precisely Hiedanranta district.
The theme for this years Space Invaders is Tolerance. The subject will be approached as a historical phenomenon, in relation to recent confrontations and conflicts in the Finnish society as well as through spatial thinking. How far can tolerance extend and what are we willing to tolerate? The old factory set up and its nature partly destroyed by factory production will add yet another layer to artistic research. What can the environment tolerate?
Space Invaders will bring a group or researchers and artists to the future residential area Hiedanranta that is currently under a massive development and urban planning. One of the goals of Hiedanranta is to become the best practice example using smart city technologies. The goal is to shape the area with participatory practices and user friendly methods which means the citizens can be involved in planning or decision-making related to the new district. Similar to this, Space Invaders is also an open concept which is annually re-created in relation to the location, theme and participants. This year students from Aalto University will take part in a school camp which will simultaneously be a course (Situated Urban), event and social space.
Space Invaders V partners this year will be the city of Tampere, Tampere University and Dwellers in Agile Cities, Hukkatila ry and ‘Live Pori’ of Aalto University.

Space Invaders IV: List of works
1. Jaakko Leeve & Sanna Ritvanen: 1A Installaatio, 2016
Entisen maahanmuuttajalasten koulun naulakko muuttuu valtioneuvoston aulaksi. 1A pohtii hallituksemme arvomaailmaa, toimintaa ja julkisuuskuvaa kuvitteelliseen lasten maailmaan sijoitettuna.
2. Marianne Niemelä: Tutkimusprojekti: Antinormatiivisuus näyttelytilassa / Research project: Counter-normativity in exhibition space 2016
This research display and textual intervention examines how heterosexism could be seen as a spatial construct, thus bringing together Foucault´s thinking and the development of queer activism.
3. Anastasija Pandilovska: To spaces Intervention, 2016
The familiar cabinet is reconfigured. Animated, the sink foregrounds itself in the room and  punctuates the tranquility. A line is drawn between a gesture and a written word.
Object rolls out. Door opens and closes. I accept the invitation. In this contemplation lingers a new relation.
4. Lauri Linna: PORK KANA – Free the Carrot! - Installment #001: Natural Selection 2016
PORK KANA – Free the Carrot! - Installment #001: Natural Selection is a test ground for exhibiting vegetal otherness and an attempt to explain why one should think about the seeds of the Carrot. Carrots where among the first organisms that humans domesticated. It was originally grown for its leaves and tasty seeds. In 17th century Netherlands a mutation happens in a yellow carrot. It is now orange. Dutch love this new carrot since it’s the color of the Dutch royal family. After several millennia we now have this overgrown orange root on our plates.
5. Tuomo Savolainen: Discotopia Installation, 2016
I believe that between utopias and these quite other sites, these Discotopias, there might be a sort of mixed, joint experience, which would be the mirror ball. The mirror ball is, after all, a Discotopia, since it is a placeless place. In the mirror ball, I see myself there where I am not, in an unreal, virtual space that opens up behind the surface; I am over there, there where I am not, a sort of shadow that gives my own visibility to myself, that enables me to see myself there where I am absent: such is the utopia of the mirror ball.
6. Hasnan Habib: I Will Not Chalk on Chalkboard, 2016
“Rote learning is a memorization technique based on repetition. The idea is that one will be able to quickly recall the meaning of the material the more one repeats it. Some of the alternatives to rote learning include meaningful learning, associative learning, and active learning.” –https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rote_learning
Rote learning is widely used in the mastery of foundational knowledge. In “I Will Not”, the artist attempts to use this method to learn certain things (despite claims of ineffectiveness).
7. Parsa Kamehkhosh: They ask you, about the Hour: when is its arrival? 2016
I’ll eat all of these morsels myself. As a sign of appreciation, I’ll take them all. As a sign of wonder, as well. I’m a good boy. I’ll have them all myself. I’m aware of the situation in society. I’m aware of the situation in this room. I’ll eat all of these morsels myself.
8. Helen Aleksandrova: Armenian Stars In Washington 1995 2016
How did it it feel to explore the world through games? How did it feel to wait for the break after class? How did it feel to anticipate the adulthood?
9. Martinez: Solemn Declaration Mora knives, laser engraving, fabric 2016
Litany 8mm film projector, digital print, wood, glass, ink 2016
The work of Martinez is articulated in the multidisciplinary, having as main interest the space, context, the uses and practices via the personal emplacement. The critic eye and an acid humor is part of its personal statement. In a constant dialogue between the stablished and the nonsense, the rationality and le non dit. The emergency as the only state of creation. The pure nihilism within an urge for the tridimensionality, the installation, the object, aesthetic devices and the document.
10. Farbod Fakharzadeh: Due to space limitations 2016
A space could be defined as the relations between objects given by their distance and direction from one another. A limitation in space, funds and availability of things can be used to justify certain measures and usually results in redirection. This work has been redirected as a result of those as it seems like a commonly implemented and accepted problem solving mode these days.
11. Juha Hilpas: Cabinet / Komero Sculpture, object collage, installation / Veistos, esinekollaasi, installaatio 2016
This is an experiment in trying to contain my rather sporadic thought processes from the past year into a somehow coherent display of ideas. I work while I think and vice versa. Sometimes this process leads to a solid outcome, but more often it does not. Like thoughts, these works are never finished, only framed and displayed to give them the opportunity to be shared and to perhaps reseed further ideas in the minds of unsuspecting observer.
Komero on yritys koota yhteen viimeisen vuoden aikana työstämiäni ajatuksia edes jokseenkin yhtenäiseksi kokonaisuudeksi.
12. Laureline Tilkin: Road 51 2016
“Road 51” questions the urban area of Espoo, with Matinkylä as its example. It shows us how space is divided in Espoo and what the main elements of life in Espoo are. It raises the question of how the future will look like for Espoo with the arrival of the metro system, will the area become even more scattered or will it become a unified, cultural and vibrant city.
13. Maarit Mustonen: Untitled Projection, 2016
What to say about this work? Works just like dreams affect the things of waking life.
14. Jari Suominen: NOW! Intervention, 2016
11:11 12:34 13:23 22:22 23:45. Some moments are bigger than others.
15. Ilona Lehtonen: As I keep looking for sense from where there is none Mixed media, 2016
There is some fundamental fascination in repetition. Like memories that born and ripen when we go through certain events in our minds over and over again, hence giving them a meaning. And the more we think over a memory, the more it mutates. Sometimes it breaks all forms and becomes something else entirely.
16. Jernej Čuček Gerbec: Suomalaistun 2016
The work reflects the slow integration of anyone who spends some time in Finland. With the time passing the work will increasingly become more Finnish, the tar smell will become increasingly present.
17. Ali Akbar Mehta: Unbecoming: Finnish / En suomalaistu Installation, 2016
In the context of an abandoned school for non-finnish students taught finnish, the connotations of what it means to be Finnish seem clear. A process of assimilation and indoctrination pervades the nature of this space. How does one invade not just the space, but the mindset of those who created and a part of it?
Unbecoming: Finnish is the first iteration of an ongoing project 'UNBECOMING'. It is based on a traditional cell animation styled technique called 'onion skinning', where a tracing is made based on the drawing underneath it.
Here, the Base drawing is that if the national border of Finland. Participants are invited to make a drawing 'to the best of their abilities or indifference' - appealing to create the next Base template for others to continue. Eventually the drawing and the changing line quality causes the shape to morph - no longer having the characteristic resonances to the national border, but just a shape to be played with; no longer boundaries that define a people, but what they actually are - lines on paper.
18.  Kalle Hakkarainen & Totte Rautiainen: onkse mielentila?
Interaktiivinen teos ilmaisee ihmisten suhtautumista ympäristöään kohtaan.
19. Maria Mastola: A Waiting room -  accompanied by Guilt Wooden cargobox, a chair, a postcard, an audio recording 2016
Under the eyes of authorities we are exposed to power of words. Oftentimes advices are spilled and puked on us, without asking if we need them or not.
20. Andrea Coyotzi Borja: The self conscious state of deceit 2016
Move, stay, go, come back, do, stay, come back, wait, go, come back.
21. Mollu Heino: Kaiku: Rio Muovinauha, teippi, metallilistat 2016
Nauha kulkee kaikuna tilan läpi, jakaa, rajaa ja heijastuu, hidastuu ja kiihtyy taas uudelleen. Valkoisten nauhojen linjasto risteilee joutilaassa, jätetyssä, ohikuljettavassa tilassa. Raita rajaa tilansa vapaana olevasta, ehdottaa tilalle ääriviivoja, vaihtaa suuntaa ja palaa takaisin.
22. Hanne Salonen: Tiloissa Installaatio, kaksi huonetta, ääni 2016
Kunnon naiset hillitsevät itsensä. Mihin kaikki huutamaton ääni menee? Ottavatko vastaan ongelmajätelaitoksella?
23. Monika Kral & Babak Issabeigloo: Millaista on köyhyystaskussa?
Teos on kerronnallinen tulkinta Matinkylän asuinalueiden sosioekonomisesta eriytymisestä.
24. Jonne Kauko: MURALS DE MONTRÉAL
An exhibition showing inspiring examples of the wide and varied scene of murals in the urban landscape of Montreal, Canada. “Murals of Montreal” aims to show simultaneously how rich a mural or graffiti culture can be, and how simple and easy it can be to organize an exhibition in a public space.
PROGRAM

Favela Vera Ortizin anatominen ote kohtaa Lotta Eskon vesihöyryn Tanja Illukan funktionaalisessa lihastyössä. Teos on lihallinen Fata morgana, kangastusilmiö horisontin yläpuolella, joka muodostaa vääristyneitä kuvia. Keho muotoutuu ensin välähdyksiksi höyryn läpi. Teoksen edetessä höyry haihtuu, keho heijastuu moneksi, laajenee mittasuhteistaan ja ottaa tilan haltuun.

Sergio Castrillon: Blind date for a performer, an unknown space and unknown audience
It is a 45 min solo cello improvised performance. However, the performer will not only improvise within the instrument but also in the space, exploring its acoustic possibilities in real time. Namely, no sound check and not previous space recognition are allowed before hand. The performance seeks for exploring a collective pure form of improvisation as a sort of blind date among the performer, the space and the audience, and intends to stimulate curiosity without releasing it. It is a kind of call that aims to don’t loose the capacity of amazement, to explore trust boundaries and to give up sometimes to the urge of knowing. Sometimes just a name and a short description is enough before the encounter isn’t? Maybe you know, or somebody that you know knows. Or you have seen, or you have heard, right?

GNAB COLLECTIVE: Reverie (a state of being pleasantly lost in one’s thoughts)
Reverie is the third and final piece of a performance trilogy on decision making by Gnab Collective. It shows the encounter of two women in a place where feelings have become images and sounds in the passing of time. At Space Invaders, Reverie is shown for the first time as a short film.

SPACE INVADERS IV - HETEROTOPIA
2.–5.6.2016
Elsankuja 5, Matinkylä (Espoo)
To / Thur 18-22 (opening), Pe / Fri 12-19, La / Sat 12-22, Su / Sun 12-15

Neljännen tapahtuman teema ‘Heterotopia’ viittaa Michel Foucault’n esseeseen ‘Of Other Spaces: Utopias and Heterotopias’ vuodelta 1967, jossa Foucault nimeää paikan ja tilan nykyajan tärkeimmäksi tarinaksi.

Space Invaders is an ongoing project created and curated by Anna Jensen and Eliisa Suvanto. Annually the event takes over an abandoned location and brings visual art, performance, music and research together. Space Invaders is now organized for the fourth time. Each year the aim is to build something special and both time and site specific; something which can never reappear exactly the same. Space Invaders IV - Heterotopia will be once again reclaiming an empty space in suburban area, this time in Matinkylä, Espoo. The theme for the 4th Space Invaders is based on Michel Foucault’s essay “Of Other Spaces: Utopias and Heterotopias” from 1967, where Foucault names the space to be the most important contemporary story. Foucault points out the important question asking if there is enough space for everyone, but also questions the relations between differents places and the space.
The physical space is always crucial for Space Invaders but at the same time the situations that become present and visible through the works of art are just as important. One key element is to make art and exhibitions more accessible for people who don’t consider themselves as the typical audience for art or culture. Space Invaders is not afraid of taking risks and jumping into the unknown and while doing so, encouraging others to join in. Like previous years the emphasis will be on site-specific installations, interventions and performance art.

OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS AND GROUPS: SPACE INVADERS IV - HETEROTOPIA 2.-5.6.2016
FI
Vuoden 2016 teema “Heterotopia” viittaa Michel Foucault’n esseeseen Of Other Spaces: Utopias and Heterotopias vuodelta 1967, jossa Foucault nimeää paikan/tilan nykyajan tärkeimmäksi tarinaksi.

Space Invaders is an eventful art exhibition organized fourth time in 2016.
Space Invaders is an ongoing project that takes over an abandoned location and brings visual art, performance, music, research and urban planning together. The challenge is how to make urban areas more visible for different audiences with a small budget, and how to use the location itself as a starting point to make something special and time and site specific; something which can never reappear exactly the same. Each year ‘Space Invaders’ has a new theme and theoretical starting point: Space Invaders IV - Heterotopia will be once again reclaiming an empty space in suburban area, this time in Matinkylä, Espoo. We have 444m2 space, which has been previously used for educational purposes.
One of our main challenges is to take art out of the city center to suburban areas, new cheaper locations with new spectators; and while doing so to challenge the whole concept of art, exhibiting and experiencing it. Like previous years the emphasis will be on site-spesific installations, interventions and performance art.
If you want to be part of Space Invaders IV - Heterotopia, please send your short proposal and required budget to: annacarolinajensen(at)gmail.com & eliisa.suvanto(at)gmail.com. Deadline for the proposals is 20.4.2016.

SPACE INVADERS III: LIST OF WORKS
Andrea Coyotzi Borja: It’s already tomorrow, video & Mexican Food Situation, Food ingredients for Tamales. “This is only a visible moment. An emergence within the everyday. Context and situation. How long can we hang from the present? And how long do we decide to bring back the past?”
Anna Bergman: Places of vision, Inslallation with invisible tape and mixed material. “A Study of the invisible and visible.”
Andre Vicentini: Things That Used To Be, natural paint on rocks; art print. “Things That Used to Be is a narrative about present and past based on the memories of rocks found around Otaniemi. Recalling nature always transforms itself and playing with those memories I evoke the inner spirits of those elder inhabitants of the planet and their perceptions. TTUTB is an humoristic approach to reflect about passing of time and an invitation to explore the depths of Otaniemi/Espoo.” tumblr: www.thingsthatusedtobe.tumblr.com
Azusa Sekiguchi: Lives, painting installation. “The famous Arabia building is the home of the University of Art and Design Helsinki. The name Arabia is also known for its ceramics. Otaniemi on the other hand is surrounded by nature and forest. The atmosphere is very different, more joyful in contrast to urbanised Arabianranta. I made my own version of the Arabia plate and designed an “Otaniemi” paper plate where my image of this place can be seen.”
Dana Neilson:  Winterwonder, plywood/mixed media. “An ongoing sculpture based project based on the mystery and magic of the north.”
Elena Aleksandrova: Otaniemi Swings, sound Sculpture. nylon rope, wood, paint, plastic pipes, rice, nails. “Otaniemi mostly consists of a student campus. The great place is surrounded by nature and sea and lets the students hang out outside a lot. Making swings on campus can make the open-air hangouts more fun. My idea involves adding a sound to the swings which makes it an interactive sound sculpture. The project consist of swings: it makes a waterfall sound when in use. The sound is based on a rainstick musical instrument. The sides of the swings are filled with rice, so the sculpture makes sound when it’s moving.”
-Ikkyuu.
Jaakko Leeve: No vacancy, video & installation. “I remember this place from over ten years ago. There was a hut of a homeless person and no path here. Then the city landscaped the area, when they started to build a new office area across the motorway. The hut was gone and a walkway appeared. The place feels deserted but attractive. There are benches to sit on and look at the sea. For some reson it has been most important for someone to control how people use the benches. All seven benches have handrails installed in the middle to prevent people from lying down. The Public Works Department of Helsinki claims that the middle rail is there to help disabled people. Some of the benches are, however, not even accessible to people with diminished mobility.”
Laura Eerikäinen: Wonderland, Resin, glass bowl, chalk, led-light. “The Past. The Present. The Future? The Otaniemi Campus is very unique compared to other campus areas in Finland since it’s also a community aside from the place you just happen to live in. Almost like living in a bubble. But what is going to happen in the future? The shopping mall is almost deserted and the Metro and more students are coming in. Will the Otaniemi bubble based on Aalto and hi-tech burst or strive?”
Laureline Tilkin-Franssens: Improvisation Karaoke, participative video-installation. “Karaoke is a popular activity in Finland. Although many karaoke bars within Helsinki-regions, surprisingly there is no karaoke bar in Otaniemi. Karaoke however causes a lot of boundaries, as not many people dare to go on stage without drinking alcohol first. This is caused by stagefright, something that is quite common. Not a lot of people are keen on making any kind of mistake, this is where the improvisation karaoke steps in.  Improvisation karaoke is a fun way to bring people together and let them enjoy karaoke. As both lyrics and music are made up, the performer is always right and can give his own interpretation to the song.”
Leda Vaneva: Sudden Allies, Digital photography. “Combining the contradictory could lead to unexpected, sometimes positive results.”
Maija Kujanen: Strings Strange, Installation. “Strings Strange” installation is a metaphor for situations which you can not control, but you want to give the impression of control, or when things seem to be clear but yet at the same time they are tangled and in disorder. It’s an aesthetic combination of making chaos into order or vice versa, trying to hold the balance. The installation is a visual record of how the artist sees her mind working and how it might appearw to the outside world.”
Maiju Loukola & Taina Riikonen: VERTICAL JESUS OTANIEMI, Video/Sound/Oil/Pigment/Paper. “VERTICAL JESUS is a site-specific installation/intervention exploring the personal, imaginary and virtual Otaniemi as it is, and as it could be in dreams and alternate layers of realities in the future. As a framework for VERTICAL JESUS, we have used a pop song by Depeche Mode and an early work by Joan Jonas. VERTICAL JESUS combines multisensory samples, focusing on visual and auditive material, produced by 2 artists working with different mediums, creating seen-heard-imagined-fictious-future-views of the area. The method is based on constatnt measuring between the real and imaginary Otaniemi.”
Marta Khrshanovskaya: Lost bus to Karijoki, Documentary video, 3:05. “The documentary is an attempt to answer the question what is aesthetically tolerable  if we refer to the town in another country. The story follows a life of the small industrial Russian town located in the suburbs of Saint-Petersburg.”
Martínez: Es como todo. (It’s like everything), Video, vernacular sound system, trolley, rope, plush toy, lights. “Silence enacts as a result of the comfort on the welfare systems. There is no need to be loud if there’s nothing to say. There is nothing to say if  there is no struggle. As an animal reflex we shout and roar when needed. There is no music, voice, noise, sound, if nothing is happening.”
Niilo Rinne: Windows, cross-media installation. “People in a building. Walls separate. Media mediates.”
Niko Nurmi: Food for Thought. Sodexo Hacks - Interventions in Dipoli (Otakaari 24), October 2014. color printouts. Food for Thought - Interventions in Tietotekniikantalo (Konemiehentie 2), May 2015. color printed photographic documentation (3 x A3), found objects with color stickers, color stickers (4 x A4). “When we sit down to eat our state-supported student lunch at a Sodexo cantine, do we share a table only with our fellow students and university staff, or also with all the inmates of the company’s prisons and deportation centers? Could imagining partaking in this transcontinental meal be a way of being informed of the workings of the planetary economy? These low intensity and thus low risk interventions utilize low technology and low learning curve techniques in order to imply an adoptability and reproducibility. I posit that working on the border of what is acceptable and not, with interventions of varying degrees of intensity, it is possible to see where the lines of what is aesthetically tolerable are drawn.”
Salla Lahtinen: Search, Otaniemi #1, animaatio. Search, Otaniemi #2, tussi paperille. “Search, Otaniemi on kaksiosainen projekti, jossa keskitytään Otaniemen havainnointiin piirtämällä. Teoksen ensimmäinen osuus on näyttelyssä esillä oleva piirretty animaatio, joka toistaa looppina kuvien hakua Googlessa. Toisessa osuudessa Otaniemeä havainnoidaan paikan päällä: piirroksia syntyy eri puolella tapahtuma-aluetta, tapahtuman aikana. Prosessin voi havaita joko seinille kiinnitetyistä piirroksista tai piirtävästä taiteilijasta. Salla Lahtinen toteuttaa piirustusprojektiaan “Search, Otaniemi” eri puolilla Otaniemeä lauantaina 16.5.”
Sara Kärpänen: Si(g)ns in the City, photograph intervention. “In her photographs Sara Kärpänen explores personal messages and signs in the city space made by its residents. The framed pictures are placed on site-specific locations aiming to find continuity between its original context and the new urban environment. The photos are a physical communication between Helsinki and London.”
Tuomo Savolainen: Peephole. “My studio door leans in the space. Use the peephole to transport yourself to another space.”
Anna Jensen & Eliisa Suvanto: Etäpesäke, bussit 102, 103 ja otaniemi. “etä: yhdyssanojen alkuosana: etäinen, kauko-. ilmaisee kaukaista t. kaukaisesta paikasta käsin tapahtuvaa. pesäke: keskus(paikka), (keskeinen) sijaintikohta, pesä(paikka), tyyssija. esim. Alueella oli useita levottomuuspesäkkeitä. (lääketiede) taudin, taudinaiheuttajien tms. sijaintikohta elimistössä. esim. Bakteeri-, märkäpesäke. Syövän etäpesäke.”
Anna Rosendahl & Laura Maatraiva: We are braiding jealousy, duration 30-40 min. “Anna and Laura are loving each other and hating the loveliness of each other. They want to make each other pretty, but not too pretty. Is it allowed to express jealousy? Is jealousy blocking female unity and feminism?”
Jani Petteri Virta Dance Company: Helppo sanoa, olet yhä ihminen,  performanssi salaisen mieheyden etsimisestä

SPACE INVADERS III - Aesthetically tolerable / Taking over Otaniemi 14.-17.5.2015
Space Invaders III – Esteettisesti siedettävämpi tutkii tilan politiikkaa.

Space Invaders III - Open call for artists and groups
The first edition of Space Invaders was about identity, the unknown location, physical space and space between people, belonging and not belonging. Space Invaders II - The Revolution was about moving on, saying goodbye and growing while doing so. In 2015 Space Invaders III will be taking over Otaniemi campus area the and public space, asking what is aesthetically tolerable?
As previous years, Space Invaders is going to be more than a traditional exhibition. The event will be a work of art itself, binding performance, intervention, sound and visual arts together. You name it as you make it, we are open for any proposals which explore the limits of an exhibition, an event, private and public space or aesthetics. How would you want to change Otaniemi and make it more tolerable, interesting or visible?
The Space Invaders III - Aesthetically Tolerable (Esteettisesti siedettävä) will take place in 14-16 May 2015. The installation will start on 11th of May. If you want to be part of taking over Otaniemi, please send your short proposals to: annacarolinajensen @ gmail.com & eliisa.suvanto @ gmail.com. The deadline for proposals is 15th of March 2015.
The emphasis will be on works that will take the limits of aesthetics and Otaniemi to the next level: site-specific, intervention and performance art. We cannot provide unlimited amount of technical equipment, so please take that into consideration while making your application. Artists and groups are required to take care of the transportation and be part of the installation process (including the uninstallation) of the works unless agreed otherwise.
“The old men in my village used to say: Everything changes by the colour of the glass you see it through. Nothing is true. Everything is imagined. Do you know these reflections? For me sometimes the reflection is far more present than the thing being reflected.” -The Mexican, The Limits of Control
