the sparrow academy on april fool’s day is Such Chaos btw. ben hates the pranks (it actually makes him happy when his siblings care enough to probably him but he’ll never admit that). alphonso is the king of pranks, he always wrangles in jayme to help and she goes along because she does enjoy the chaos. fei doesn’t fully understand that the pranks are meant to be harmless so there have been a few instances of things going a little too far. sloane always says she doesn’t like to prank people. she does it anyway. marcus goes for all the old-school pranks, he thinks it’s the “proper” way for it to be down. christopher is by far the champion of april fools day though, no one has ever been able to successfully prank him but he’s got all of them multiple times

Having some thoughts about Farleigh and Oliver and i definitely think their dynamic is worth exploring a little here. Quickstart fans pls don't come at me LOL bc I totally see the appeal of this dynamic from a shipping sense like I do....but in my mind sex with Farleigh was, for Oliver, simply part of the broader context of the game was engaging in at Saltburn. He wanted Farleigh OUT of the picture and assuming we do NOT think Oliver was just in it for control of the property, there had to be some other reason for that outside of "he's standing in the way of my castle inheritance" LOL. If we really look back at their interactions, in almost every single one of them Farleigh is explicitly trying to humiliate Oliver in some way. Criticizing his work in the tutorial, letting him know he noticed the bad rental tux, the karaoke scene, the handjob on a hay bale big boy summer dialogue which honestly arguably pushed Oliver completely over the edge imo. I think Oliver personally dislikes Farleigh and that he sees some of his less than ideal impulses and traits in himself and hates the way they look on someone else.

I LOVE Farleigh. I think he is a massively interesting and complicated character and I would even argue that it's disrespectful to his characterization to assume his behavior was *just* his way of flirting with Oliver bc that ignores the broader context of Farleigh's own very serious big feelings about the tenuous fragility of his own position within the Catton family . Sure, Oliver and Farleigh both had to acknowledge that there was a mutual physical attraction between them (and bonus points bc, like Venetia, Farleigh also shares DNA with Felix let's be real) and they are so alike in ways - well read, massively observant, cutting when they need to be, etc. BUT for Oliver, who has seemingly been operating in a low social stratosphere for his entire life and aligned by his peers with people like Michael Gavey, is absolutely tuned into the fact Farleigh has sussed out that one of his very real weaknesses is being humiliated and he HATES it. We see Oliver trying to bite back, sure, but he's also clearly viscerally put off and insecure about Farleigh's jabs.

He's competitive with Farleigh but I think also understands that Farleigh is not a Real Threat when all is said and done (honestly in part bc Oliver is white and was even a fly on the wall for the conversation Felix has with Farleigh where this inherent power imbalance is explicitly addressed and he sees how flippant and offended and ignorant Felix is about it), which is why he lives. He might even respect Farleigh for attempting to play the game with him, but I do not think the sex (even whatever kind of insane sex they had that made Farleigh pass out afterwards LOL), was anything more for Oliver than pleasant friction and a means to an end. He wanted Farleigh out of the picture not just for the house but because Farleigh delights in his humiliation and Oliver can't stand that. Oliver is very keyed into the power of sexuality as a means of control, Farleigh is too. While I'm sure Oliver enjoyed the physical sensation of whatever happened between them, i don't think Oliver spares that encounter much of a second thought when all is said and done.

4. Valhalla - the series two episode, I don't have anything bad to say about it honestly, just a great episode

5. Seven Bells - there is nothing like watching this episode for the first time, nothing, like absolutely insane piece of television and I love it

looking at be the transcript for season 3 episode 6 and the scene where ben and jayme fight and i came across this and i’m. he broke some of her bones !!!! how am i supposed to be normal

the flashback at the start of the marigold episode will never not make me go a little wild because it says so much about ben. he’s so determined to prove to his father that he is the best that he’s willing to risk the life of one of his siblings. in his eyes it doesn’t matter what happens to her because he will be the one to come out of the fight on top. but it’s this very pride that distracts him long enough for him to lose. and it’s both of these things that prove the opposite of what he wants to be true - he wants to be a leader, and he isn’t cut out for it.

it’s heavily implied that he was no.1 at one point, and its not a far reach to wonder if his pride or his lack of care for his siblings may have been what led to him being demoted. also going back to that fight, it seems the sparrows really value their numbers as their ranks, which means no.2 (desperate to be no.1) being defeated by no.6 (in his eyes, one of the weakest links) would be all the more humiliating.

the thing is, he’s an ass, but nothing with either batch of hargreeves siblings is ever simple and reginald will always be more of an ass than all of them combined and ben’s mindset is definitely - at least partially - the product of how he was brought up. and his powers, too, might feed into his mindset. he is, indisputably, a very powerful members of the team, but there’s also something so monstrous about his ability. something so innately inhuman. i feel like at least part of him wants to prove that he can win a fight using his power because he controls it, it doesn’t control him.

Okay this is random but I just don't want to forget about it but like going off how he's always drawn in the comics, it seems like levitation is like klaus' default state like he's always just criss cross applesauce midair and I think that's very interesting and I want to delve into it more
