A little idea that I just. Love so much is when a character has a high fever and when their S/O goes to feel their cheeks/forehead with cold hands and the one that’s sick just leans into their soft and cold touch.

God, it’s just so good I love it.

Guilty Caretaker and Neglected Sick Character Prompt

Character A is feeling really gross so they text Character B, downplaying their symptoms but feeling them out to see if they’d want to keep them company. Character B goes off saying that they have something really important due the next week that they absolutely need to get done, and that it’s selfish of Character A to ask them to waste important work time just because they’re feeling a little under the weather. Character A plays it off like it’s cool, but sitting at home feeling worse by the minute and the beginnings of a fever starting to settle in, they’re teary eyed and really hurt. They knew that Character B was busy and there was a good chance they wouldn’t be able to come, but their sicker-by-the-minute brain wasn’t prepared to handle such a passionate rejection or accusation.  A couple days pass and Character B is almost completely wrapped up with their project and the intense stress it had been putting on them has finally lifted. They feel bad about being so harsh to Character A and think that A is mad at them since they haven’t responded back to any of the texts they’d been sending them. Normally when they get into an argument they’re joking it off by the next morning, so it worries Character B that A isn’t responding and they decide to pay them a visit to apologize in person. When they get to Character A’s place they find that they are much worse than they said they were before. Character A is barely able to make it to the door, and when they finally fumble their way over and manage to get it open they practically fall over (either backwards into their place or into B). They’re trembling, visibly flushed, dizzy beyond belief, and can barely put together proper sentences. Character B drags A back into their place and forces them to sit down, trying to get them to stay awake long enough to tell them how long they’ve been this bad, but Character A is too out of it to explain. What kind of caretaker is Character A? Are they experienced with taking care of people this sick? Maybe they’re terrified and call a doctor? Or a nurse/medical student friend? Maybe they know exactly what to do but are too emotionally distressed to remember proper protocol? What would Character B do to try to make it up to A when they’re better? Spoil them rotten for a whole week? Showing up to their house or work with gifts and goodies? Checking up on them once an hour, every hour for a week until they’re better? How would Character A respond to Character B’s attempts to apologize? Are they appreciative of their attempts? Irritated by their persistence? A kind of “I told you a thousand times already, I forgive you already!” Or maybe they love all the attention?

Little moments of whump

Grand whump is wonderful, of course, but what takes my breath are those subtle moments that show the whumped character is really not ok:

- taking a moment to close his eyes because he’s light headed/exhausted/has such a bad headache

- pressing the heel of his hand against his temple, because his head hurts or he can feel his temperature rising

- spacing out a bit during a conversation - especially when he’s the one speaking, so that he kind of trails off and has to shake himself and apologise and get back on track

- pressing a cold bottle of beer/coke against his forehead and just taking a moment to savour the relief

- especially a normally diligent/stoic character - falling asleep on the job or somewhere he shouldn’t, even if it’s just for a moment, and he’s startled awake by someone/something and there’s just that moment of being lost in his eyes as he tries to figure out where he is and what’s happened

- his hands are shaking and he accidentally meets someone’s eyes who’s seen it happen so he shoves his hands into his pockets or armpits and stalks off

- a little stagger as he walks, or kind of drunkenly reeling off-course a tiny bit before he self-corrects

- that helpless expression just before he collapses

- moving wrong in a way that aggravates the pain, and the sudden seizing of his body

- breathing through the pain

- leaning against objects so he can stay upright, especially if he’s doing it as nonchalantly as possible

- a pause as he first notices that something isn’t right

- that white knuckled grip

- a hitch in his voice as he talks

- half-lidded eyes that are becoming unfocussed

- the way his head lolls

- where he can’t even spare the energy/strength to turn his head and he kind of just accepts things/carries on looking straight ahead

- trying to carry on speaking a command or direction or explanation even though he can only voice a few words at a time, either because of pain, or weakness, or confusion/disorientation

- someone passes him something but his hands are clumsy and he fumbles with it rather than just taking it normally

- reaching under a jacket and coming out with a blood-stained hand (always this <3)

- apologising for being about to pass out just before he does (afhflksdkkjfgg)
