"Hm? Oh. Kendal. My name's Kendal."
The smile was responded to with a
smirk and she prepared to keep up,
she moved. “So—I didn’t quite catch
your n a m e.”

Part of him wondered whether
her cousin got called Barbie
too, but after a few weeks with
the Squip, he knew better than
to ask. "Y'from 'round here?"
“Think I’ve got a cousin
with that name. ‘S real cute.”
Her tone suggests she’s
teasing, though the
expression upon her
countenance suggests
otherwise.
“Same t’you—considering
the circumstances.”

"Makes sense," he said, giving
her a smile. "Just follow me."
“Thank you. I’d rather not get lost—again.”
It apparently had become a habit; getting lost.
So it was genuine gratitude that sounded in
her voice.

Petrol?
GAS. ITS ANOTHER WORD FOR GAS.
Gotcha. "Yeah, there's one just a block that way,
I can show ya' if you'd like."
Oh—fine brows rose in realisation and she
turned her head to look to the left, then to
the right until her look was eventually cast
upon him again. Her lower lip ended up being
tucked in as a frown made it quite obvious
that she had taken the w r o n g turn.
“Well then—could you perhaps tell me the
way to the next petrol station? That way I
won’t bother you much longer and hit the
road.”

"Uh, yeah," he said, clearing his throat,
"I get that a lot actually."
"Gotta say, you sounded older on the phone. I thought you were kinda old soundin’. You don’t sound like that at all now."

"Kendal. 'm Kenal."
He gave her another smile,
just like the Squip had
taught him. He was a fast
student. "Nice to meet'cha."
The young woman trails behind a
moment, then proceeds to pick up
the pace in order to walk to the
right of him.
“—So. I figure if you’re gonna buy me
coffee I should at least introduce myself.
Name’s Winifred, but most folks just call
me Winnie. Now, ‘s only fair I get to ask
what your name is, don’tcha think?”

AWAKE.
The Squip stimulated
the part of Kendal's
brain that would keep
him awake.
His head popped up, looking around.
"Hm, uh, yeah?
Oh, you're in Sommer's Point."
And she’s nudging his shoulder to wake him.
“I asked you about my whereabouts.
But if you’re rather in dreamy land, I’ll just
ask someone who’s a tad more interested.”

"Ready."
"Alright, cool. Ready when you are, sir."
You just agreed to die for an hour. He totally thinks you’re his twelve o’clock.

SHE IS FEELING UNCOMFORTABLE.
Yeah, and what am I supposed to do about it?
Sometimes the Squip was more annoying than
helpful. He made a mental note to tell the lab
about that.
YOU JUST DON'T LIKE BEING IN THE WRONG.
Shut up.
"Yeah. 'm Kendal.
Nice to meet you.." He hoped she would give her name.
”Umm, thanks? That’s very
sweet of you to say.”
That’s not unusual.
Compliments are thrown at her daily. Why is she suddenly wary around this stranger?
“You’re new, right?”

What am I even saying yes to? He hadn't been paying attention. Not completely anyway.

"There's a place down the block.
C'mon."
And with that Kendal started off down the street,
anticipating that the brunette would follow.
Malachite optics survey the other, if only for
a moment—but her reply comes easily.
“Cool, sure. Thanks.”
She doesn’t hesitate much before sending
a warm simper of her own towards him
before inquiring, “Lead the way?”
