Between the ages of 14 and 15, Dawn Summers:

spensa: alright jorgen, we're going to play a guessing game right now, and the first question is: gUESS WHO'S GETTING THEIR ASS BEAT-

Jorgen, Arturo and Nedd are such great characters because when they're introduced the first impression is they're the most generic antagonists in a YA school novel. You've seen them a thousand times its the rich boy Malfoy stand in with his two dumb lackies, who get put in charge because of nepotism so they can bully the protagonist.

But then you keep reading and all that falls apart. They got put in charge because they're genuinely the most qualified. Jorgen is uptight and rule following because that's all he knows, while his friends arent dumb, Arturo is just quiet and doesn't speak unless he thinks its important, while Nedd just acts that way so people overlook him.

Then as the severity of the book ramps up any antagonistic nature they might have completely vanishes as the stakes leave petty rivalries behind, and Jorgen quickly makes snap decisions to trust Spensa because she's on his squad. (Also that scene where she runs into him replaying past battles late at night... easily best scene in the book)

Sanderson so quickly sets up your expectations than deconstructs them saying "hey these characters are actually interesting" is just so glorious for a YA novel.

Watching the Wheel Of Time with my husband. He is a book reader; my first exposure to these characters is the show; so, you can imagine the kind of stress he's under and the amount of amusement he is getting from me.

If you have a child and they are creeped out by a nephew or older brother touching them or looking at them a certain way, you need to have a serious talk with that person and keep them the hell away from your child. Don’t minimize it or tell your kid to hug them anyway, that kid is picking up danger signals they don’t even understand yet. But so many families will tell that kid they are being a brat.
