sap hours ughhh
hidehiko is such a fun character but there's surprisingly a lot of thought put into him as well that not a lot of people seem to catch on.
i like that behind his jokes and silly behavior, there's always the impression that he's hiding something, something that he's not willing to tell. it's by no means a malicious secret, more like you get the impression that he's privy and insecure with something about himself. he likes to talk big and frequently seeks attention, but when he's put on the hotseat he clams up and deflects with a joke or a nonsense statement. him being the "funny guy" is essentially his shield, the role he plays to protect himself from what he perceives as a danger โ tangible and abstract danger that threatens to expose the skeletons in his closet.
(i wish i had a screenshot of his "everybody's got skeletons in their closets" line during sebec but it's gone from my albums... *sobs* just trust me on this one guys)
easily one of the most unique usage of the [justice] arcana too, focusing on a more internalized perspective on justice's principles of "balance". he's tied back by his past and constantly feels the need to make up for the ills during his middle school years by becoming a different person entirely. he goes so far as to wipe his slate clean by the time he enters high school, and while on a surface level you can say that his strategy worked to some extent, he's still weighed down by the fear of history repeating itself again the moment he fumbles in his act. but only through seeing how the others faced their problems so openly did he gain the strength to confront his past and make peace with it and himself. he's no longer ashamed of himself and is able to joke about parts of his past like the origin of his nickname, it's extremely funny in hindsight but such a nice conclusion to his character.
tl;dr i love this weird girlboything i hope one day people can be enlightened on how surprisingly well-realized he is as a character and encompasses p1's themes as well as the rest of the cast does ๐
