“Alexandra DeSanctis makes an acute observation in “Why Big Business Loves Abortion,” in the October 3 National Review. Many corporations have announced that they will cover any costs incurred by female employees who travel out of state to obtain an abortion. But that solicitude should not be construed as any generalized concern for their female employees’ well-being or even job satisfaction. “Companies have pledged money for abortion without offering any comparable increases in maternity leave, child benefits, or assistance to couples seeking to complete an adoption,” DeSanctis notes. Rather, the corporations’ support of abortion is in furtherance of their desire to create the ideal employee: one unencumbered by familial relationships and child-rearing responsibilities. Corporate heads lamented that the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision endangered “gender parity and equal opportunity in the workplace” and placed at risk “gains that women have made in the workplace and broader society.” In other words, a woman’s worth is reflected almost exclusively by how well she imitates men. Men are the standard to which women are supposed to aspire. To be successful in the workplace, women must be just like men: “never pregnant, never home with children, always available.” But the male standard did not originate in corporate boardrooms. It is, according to Abigail Favale, in The Genesis of Gender, a staple of second-wave feminists writers like Simone de Beauvoir and Shulamit Firestone. They cast femaleness and female biology as undesirable compared with the “unencumbered male” standards: “Too often, freedom for women is cast as freedom from femaleness. Female equality was redefined as sameness with men.””

I’m struggling to understand why secular leftism has become so appealing for people my age. The average leftist I stumble across has a variety of self-admitted mental health problems and is absolutely miserable, probably because their entire worldview revolves around hyper focusing on an ever-changing standard of “problems” within society and lamenting about how the world will never get better until everyone’s entire way of life is completely dismantled and rebuilt to fit, again, a standard of morality and living that changes every five minutes at the whims of whatever protest group is getting the most coverage at any given point.
You’re ostracized from your friend groups if you don’t performatively show your support for the latest “movement,” you’re expected to tirelessly keep up to date on every single tragedy in the world or else you’re “privileged,” you’re by default a worthless and evil piece of shit if you aren’t a POC and/or some form of LGBT+, and even then, certain members of those groups get ostracized if they’re not “dark enough” or not “gay enough” or not trans. You’re encouraged to start shit with family members and even cut them off completely if they don’t support every little pet protest your friends have rallied behind. What’s more, there’s no greater purpose in life beyond Supporting The Cause. The dogma of your religion is contributing to the latest hashtag about BLM or COVID or Palestine or trans rights. You’re discouraged from finding purpose in faith or family or patriotism, and you’re not a “good person” unless you’re over-the-edge angry and distraught all the time.
Idk, I just don’t see the appeal of any of this, lol. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Every so often (ever since I read that book about Catholic scientists) I think about the guy who discovered the cause of Down's Syndrome and get very sad.
Jérôme Lejeune did his research because he loved children with Down's Syndrome! He wanted to help them! Discovering the genetic cause was a huge breakthrough, and helping to develop the prenatal test was intended to give parents a chance to prepare for caring for a child with Down's Syndrome.
And then his test was used to kill children with Down's Syndrome.
He got the highest honor in genetics because of it, and he used his acceptance speech to tell the world's assembled scientists that their use of his test was evil. Which made everyone mad and destroyed his chances of winning a Nobel. But he stood for life. He stood for the disabled. He stood for the children. Even at the cost of his career. Because his work intended to save the children he loved was being used to destroy them and how do you deal with that? It just breaks my heart every time I think about it.

“It’s not about personhood, it’s about bodily autonomy!”
No, it most definitely is about personhood.
Once you make personhood dependent on arbitrary conditions, like a person’s age, you make it easier to legally revoke anybody’s personhood based on any other arbitrary standard, like their race, gender, social class, or degree of ableness — all of which are often given by pro choice advocates as reasonable justifications for abortion.
Either all human life has inherent value, or none of us does. It’s really that simple.

i think the most shocking thing to me about that graph from the canadian government calculating money saved via murdering the mentally ill is that... like they have an expected number to do the calculations off of. they have a quota of people to kill to reduce the costs of healthcare.
that graph wasn't just a reflection on how much they saved, it'll absolutely be used as a goal to save more.
6,465 people murdered by doctors in canada in 2021. the mentally ill become eligible in march 2023. how much will that increase by?

I need you guys to listen so bad, but I’m at least glad people on Twitter are starting to talk about this. The government of Canada is expanding Medically Assisted Death to cull the poor and disabled, and now suicidal and mentally ill (these are usually interchangeable of course here). It is EUGENICS and every single disabled rights organization is against it.
Disability payments are $1,200 a month. The average one bedroom apartment rent in the Greater Toronto Area (greatest pop. area by far here) is $2,000 a month. People with mental illnesses are on months long waitlists to get even a single publicly funded session. Weeks to get privately funded care which costs at least $200 a session. There is no housing here for disabled people. We are in one of the worst housing crises in the world right now.
Doctors are now offering MAiD unprompted to young suicidal people. This woman is 21, a health practitioner literally suggested she kill herself.

This is one of the worst Disability Rights Violations we’ve ever seen in Canada. The government is killing us because it is cheaper than funding healthcare, cheaper than giving people housing and food and basic human rights.
