Elementary's Sherlock is just so achingly human.

He doesn't solve murders because it's a game to him; it's because he finds the taking of a life abhorrent. Even when the victim was a Terrible Person™, he'd rather the murderer go to jail, because that person didn't have the right. It's not a game to him.

He's shown again and again to be compassionate and thoughtful, even when he's being an asshole. He's so bad at human relationships but despite what he says, he cares so much.

Jonny Lee Miller was 100% the perfect casting for Sherlock. He knocks it out of the park in every single episode.

Underrated part of Elementary is the fact that Sherlock has a million weird little hobbies and they're not about annoying people or being inconvenient, they're just things he's genuinely interested in and enjoys and wants to share with other people.

He keeps bees and rehabilitates roosters rescued from cockfighting rings and does his own tattoos and fences and steals animals from crime scenes to keep as pets and is just generally living his best life. I love him.

Elementary!Sherlock is superior because when he was angry and had to make several phone calls he dug out a rotary phone from his storage closet to be able to hang up on people with more emphasis

i remember when elementary first came out and bbc sherlock fans were saying elementary's sherlock was OOC becuz he wasn't an asshole just becuz he was compassionate to victims and people suffering hard circumstances

putting the claims of OOC-ness aside, but it's clear they actually didn't watch or didn't pay attention becuz elementary's sherlock is absolutely an asshole. he is arrogant and entitled and rude and aggressive to people who impede his investigations even if they are also victims and hostile to his brother for no discernible reason

the difference from bbc's sherlock is that elementary's sherlock actually has consequences for this behavior. it strains his relationships, it gets him fired from his job, it gets him into legal trouble, it hinders his investigations, it gets his friend shot

we're used to modern adaptions of sherlock prancing around being callous and inconsiderate to everyone around him and ppl grudgingly putting up with it becuz, well, he's a eccentric genius what can you do

elementary's sherlock is compassionate to people who've suffered becuz he knows what it's like to suffer, but he's also an unmitigated asshole, he just doesn't get a free pass on it

elementary may have been copaganda but they were really onto something with their version of holmes he's autistic. he's a sub. he's canonically into bondage. he's a recovering addict. he keeps bees. he's tattooed AND hairy. his posture is insane. he texts in a near-undecipherable string of abbreviations and acronyms. he's the most irritating man in new york city. he's even aromantic
