OCD - Monkeys and Ferrets Mood board (OCD mood board in sketchbook)
Reasons to why I chose these two creatures was for two separate reasons:
Ferrets are very fast and flexible, meaning they’re easily skittish and nervous creatures when threatened,
Monkeys are intelligent creatures, when they choose to be. Therefore they’re good to represent the more organized and focused part of the character.

Anxiety - Dog Mood board (Anxiety mood board in sketchbook)
Reasons to why I chose a dog to represent Anxiety is self explanatory, dogs are very nervous animals and get high in anxiety when they don't know what’s going on or where their owners went, theres lots of products used to calm dogs down, its socially noticeable that dogs are more likely to get anxiety than any other animal.

Depression - Cat Mood board (Depression mood board in sketchbook)
reasons to why I chose cats to represent depression is due to the fact these animals are more likely to close others out and be loners, they often show sadness quite easier from soft mewing and big beady eyes. They’re normally seen as cold-hearted but they’re one of the most sensitive creatures who become very caring and soft when warmed up to someone. Their size and positions they make are very vulnerable and fragile looking, reminding me of the feeling of being helpful.

BIPOLAR - Bird Mood boards (bipolar mood board in sketchbook)
I linked Bipolar with Birds simply because birds are very unpredictable and change their emotions very quickly, constantly on the go and going form happy-sad really fast. Silent to LOUD.
reasons as to why the character would be a cockatoo for Bipolar is due to the fact they are one of the nosiest parrots on the planet, screeching, flailing, very dramatic birds. Their figure are very cloud-like and they show forms of expressions emotion, lifting their ‘crowns’ when threatened or excited.

DEVELOPMENT IN THE OUTCOME
At the beginning“I will be using traditional media to animate a paper frame-by-frame narrative (animatic/storyboard) which will include Screw and the creatures I’ve designed to target each individual issue, it will only be short gif-like snippet to be a preview of what the project would look like in a whole production.” --- At first, I did have the intention on doing so, I started producing pencil animated frames using cartridge paper, pencil and tracing paper. I made several until I began using ink over the frames to make it more colorful and intriguing. This was where the project started to take a turn, it wasn’t working, the colors merged with the graphite, the colors were dark and not vibrant, the ink bled easier… This is where I began to feel it was too difficult to start even on frame one, I could’ve used fixative, but the glue-substance would’ve still taken some sort of effect on the ink that prevents it from showing its true colors.
This is where I began to experiment again with water, letting the water move around the page, drawing with water using a pipette, in conclusion- this was becoming more fun and quicker paced for me to produce several frames given the time I had left, I only needed the Monday to produce about 23 frames to get several gifs in total, take into consideration. for smooth animation, one second needs a total of 12-24 frames which could’ve taken up to weeks to produce an outcome with a 1-2-minute smooth animation. My product can simply be used to ‘campaign’ or kickstart and idea, being a preview clip to what would normally be presented to a client before making a batch produced creation.
I gathered all the frames, scanned them individually at home and used my paint programmed “Paint Tool Sai”, to make a lineless character animation with Screw. Which turned out to be a couple of challenges during some frames since you need either an even or odd number of frames to allow a character to do looping actions. However, in the end, the outcome turned out great. I’m very pleased with how it turned out. Finally, when I concluded on how it will be presented (on a computer desk, both a wall and table) I began making logos and finally added music to the animation to give it something for the audience to when they view the 30 second video.
In conclusion, if I were to do this again, I would have loved to draw out more frames to make a 1-2-minute animation, but due to lack of ink and time, I couldn’t do so for this FMP. However, this is a skill I would love to take on with University, it has been a good radical experiment to work on and explore my skills in traditional as well as digital animation. If I were to do this again, I would also like to explore with water-coolers to produce backgrounds, I did very little background work and I feel making more backgrounds for these animations would give them more life, but I would have needed more experimental time to figure out how to incorporate it with the frames that already have two medias on them without having white pixels. The option to use Photoshop is free to use at any time but at this moment in time I felt a simple white background made the characters more in focus and that’s the intention I want to push onto my audience.
Do I believe it’s suitable for children? Absolutely, it’s vibrant, bright, cartoony and I don’t feel the characters are seen as too creepy or something to be intimidated of. The actions they portray are innocent but you get the message on how the characters make Screw feel. The only thing you’d have to do with this product is explain which character represents what but that can be left with the doctors or parents to describe. There could be a case one segment of a character would be presented to the children who are diagnosed with let’s say “Bipolar”, they would only get to see a visual of the character alone instead of the whole compilation.
Does this work with my proposal? I believe so… The intention Is clear, the character Screw represents a child (unisex so it can relate to both girls and boys) and how the mental health creatures influence them. Showing symptoms, emotion, feeling. You get a short snippet but without narration, I believe its clear to tell what’s happening.
