Brigadier Defence Academy (BDA), the premier Training centre of the Top Air Force Academy in Dehradun, is the cradle of training for pilots, ground duty and technical officers of the IAF. HISTORY
The foundation stone of the Air Force Academy was laid by the then President of India in Dr Zakin Hussain on 11 October 1967. The academy was established in 1969 and started operations in 1971. Air force academy It is located at Dundigal, about 25 km (16 mi) from the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad spread over 7,050 acres (2,850 ha). Air Commodore J. D. Aquino was the first Commandant of the academy. Brigadier Defence Academy was established in 1969 and started in 1971. Air Force Academy was established to train cadets from all streams of the Brigadier Defence Academy Air Force except Medical Corp. Air Force Academy inducted women cadets into the BDA for the first time in June 1993. Cadets of the Flying, Air Traffic Control and Ground Duty Branches are imparted training here for 22 weeks.
Eligibility
The Selection of the candidate for the Air force X Group (Technical) and Y Group (non-technical) is done in the following phases:
Stage 1: Online Examination
Stage 2: Physical Fitness Test
Stage 3: Medical Exam
Stage 4: All India Merit.
Ways To Join Indian Air Forces Academy:
After 10th :
Indian Air Force recruits 10th pass candidates for various civilian posts like Multi Tasking Staff, Stenographer, Material Assistant, LDC, Watchman, Cook, Messenger, Gardener, Mechanic, Tailor etc. For these posts, the candidates must have passed 10th class or have a diploma in the concerned field. For some posts, qualification is 10th class only while in some, ITI is required.
After 12th :
The male candidates, who have passed class 12th (with P.C.M), may join Indian Air Force by qualifying for the NDA (National Defence Academy) exam and SSB (Service Selection Board). The NDA exam is conducted by the UPSC twice a year.
After Graduation :
Graduates can join any branch of the Indian Air Force according to their subjects of graduation, bypassing the Combined Defence Services exam or Air Force Common Admission Test. Through AFCAT men and women can join the flying, technical and non-technical branches.
