“Let me go, Mickey! I didn’t touch your bike!”

Mickey’s got him in a chokehold, but Ian shoves back hard, untangles the boy’s arms from around his neck, and pushes him to the ground. 

“Gallagher if it was your asshole brother, I’m comin’ to your house!” he yells.

Ian flips him off, runs out of the dugouts.

Years later, nestled on their couch, deep into an action movie marathon, Mickey’s got his arm slung around Ian’s shoulders, holding him tight to his chest.

Ian leans back to rest his head against his husband's. 

“Never let me go?”

“Not a chance.”

'Stupid fuckin' piece of shit!!'

'Just a sec, might have a fire to put out,' Ian chuckles and winks before heading up the stairs and to their bedroom.

He stops in the doorway to check for signs of any potential catastrophe. None in sight. Just Mickey in front of their floor-length mirror, huffing and puffing while struggling with his bowtie.

'Thirty years and you still haven't learned?' he jokes.

'It's a useless fuckin' skill!'

'Not on your daughter's wedding day!'

Mickey turns to glare at him.

'Alright, let me. Dunno what you'd do without me.'

A beat.

'Yeah, me neither.'

The second he hears footsteps behind him he knows exactly who it is without even turning around.

It goes like this: they hate each other on the pitch - and pretty much everywhere else. But when the match is over, Mickey will take the longest shower known to man until he's the last one in the locker room. And Gallagher will barge in, crowd him against the wall and fuck his brains out.

'This changes nothing!' he pants against Gallagher's mouth.

'Course not!' comes the prompt reply.

'Still hate you!'

'Shut the fuck up!'

'Make me!'

Fight was bad. A week sleeping at Lip’s. Doesn’t even remember what started it but they dug in hard, both blaming the other.

But today’s their anniversary. Not the big one. Not one anyone else remembers. But Ian does. And he knows Mickey does. Know’s he alone, pouting, pissed they’re missing it.

Also knows his husband is the more stubborn one. Hates that he always caves first—even if Mickey apologizes right after. Promised himself he wouldn’t this time. But he made bigger promises, too. Vows.

Ian knocks. Waits. Mickey opens their door.

“Truce?”

Tear-stained cheeks press warm into his chest.

As Ian unpacked the last of the boxes he saw a photo of himself wearing a hat and flipping off the camera. He picked it up and waved it at Mickey. “What’s this?”

“I uh… I swiped it from your house back when you ran to the army.” Mickey said, glancing away.

“Seriously? We weren’t even together.”

“Yeah. I took a gamble that we weren’t over. Might have punched it once or twice though. Made me feel better.”

“I’m glad.” Ian replied, meeting the other man’s eyes.

“Glad I punched it?” 

“Glad you had it.” he said with a smirk.

Not ten minutes after the visit he lands himself in solitary.

It'd been horrible. Svetlana, the kid. But most of all, Ian. Vacant stare, hollow words. The lie that had been the final stab to the chest.

Mickey had walked away feeling like a rubber band pulled so taut, moments away from snapping.

And then he'd heard it. A faint humming from somewhere behind him.

Heartache to heartache we stand…

He's pretty sure he's never pummelled anyone with such blind rage. Damn, did it feel good!

And now, in the safe quiet of the solitary room, he lets himself cry.

They don’t keep secrets from each other.

Mickeys playing music in their apartment while they lounge around through his phones Spotify. The Radiohead song that had been playing finishes and Mickey grunts as the next song plays.

“Pick a different one will ya?” he asks.

Ian scrolls through Mickey’s Spotify account, looking for a song that fits their 90s rock vibes when he stops.

There’s a playlist titled ‘Ian’ full of over a hundred songs. The most recent being added last week. Ians heart is pumping eratically.

They don’t keep secrets but yeah, Ian will let Mickey keep this one.

This will be my first time attempting a post for @galladrabbles, and this week's prompt is "The song that makes me think of you..." by @sully-999. Hopefully I stuck close enough for this to work!

Mickey hummed softly as he slid the spatula under the sizzling bacon, twisting his wrist as he tried to figure out what the song stuck in his head was. He continued cooking absently mindedly as he hummed the same portion over and over again. And then it hit him. It was the song from his wedding. Mickey was almost embarrassed it took him so long to get it. His husband would have never let him live that down, good thing he didn't know. Ian wandered out just then, looking adorably rumpled.

“Whatcha humming?”

“Just something that reminds me of you.”
