Chapter 34:

It took a lot of convincing to make Jeongin promise not to tell anyone about what had happened that night that you just cried in his arms. It wasn’t that he had no respect for you or anything, it was just that he knew how you were, and that you weren’t all that likely to tell Jihoon how you felt.

Which, while a fair assessment of who you were as a person, wasn’t exactly fair. Up until pretty recently you would have to say that your communication with Jihoon had been pretty good.

You learned a long time ago that nothing in life is certain. People come and go when it suits them, and situations change no matter how much you wished they wouldn’t. The factors you could control were the ones you created yourself. There was a sense of safety that came with setting boundaries and not letting people get too close. People can’t hurt you if you don’t let them, right?

You told yourself that it was better this way, keep everyone at arms distance and you could hold onto the fragile sense of control you had over your life. You weren’t good with change, especially not when that change could lead to you loosing what you held dear.

Jihoon is a… special case. He’s the only person that called you out on your bullshit and wouldn’t let you push him away. He understood you better than anyone else did, and it absolutely terrified you. The way that he always seemed to know what you were thinking and what lies you were telling yourself.

You were absolutely in love with him. He is your best friend in the entire world. Someone that you grew to rely on despite living by an entirely different philosophy. He made you feel comfortable like no one else could… you could picture a future with him. You could see yourself being with him. You needed him in your life and couldn’t jeopardize the relationship you had formed with him.

The Last Time

Vernon x reader

You swear this is the last time.

You woke up in his arms and under the sheets, while Vernon is snoring his tiredness away. You look at his features; his eyes, his lips, his cheeks, all of which you have memories that you love.

Eyes. The first time you met, you felt sparks all over. There wasn’t anything extraordinary about the way Vernon looks at you, in fact, the way he looks at you gives off a vibe that he was trouble and you ought to be careful. When you got to know him, he gives you this look - a look of love or adoration that he gives only to you. You were whipped ever since.

Lips. The first time he kissed you, it was cliché. You were at a party with your college friends and brought Vernon because out of all your friends, you trusted him the most whenever you get shitfaced drunk. You were dancing in the middle of the room, and you felt someone dance with you from behind. When you turned around, you were surprised to see Vernon. “Wtf you were supposed to be the designated driver, how much did you drink?” you said. “I didn’t drink anything,” his hands went to your waist, “what? I can’t dance with you?” You knew this was a trap, and you were nervous as to what your reaction would be if he does something stupid. But, you were already drunk, and you were on a “fuck it” mode already. So when you saw his face leaning towards you, while looking at your lips, you let him. “Well, fuck it,” and you let him kiss the life out of you.

Cheeks. All of your friends know that Vernon doesn’t cry. He’s an easygoing person, he laughs at every problem he encounters. However, there were times when his parents were being too hard on him. So, one night, he went over to your house. “Vern? It’s late. What are you doing here?” He answered you by hugging you. He hugged you for a long time, until you felt a part of your shoulder get wet. “What’s wrong?” you asked. He lifted his head up, “being here with you is enough.” That night, you kissed his tears away. You loved how you all knew he didn’t cry, but when he did, he came to you.

You take a good look at him, tracing all of the features that you fear you would forget. Is this really going to be it? What if you didn’t want this to end?

“Hey, you up early?” he said. 

“Couldn’t sleep.” you replied.

“Is it 6am already? Shit, I have to go.” Vernon immediately sprung up and collected his clothes on the floor.

“Yeah, don’t let your bride wait for too long.”

Reality snapped you back to your place.

You swear this is the last time.

and then it happened, the sound of his snore began to fill the tiny room of your small apartment.
