What I learnt about codes.
Even through codes maybe repeated in different genres, the responses from audience differ.  For example, the technical code of lighting is used in some way in all film genres. It is a convention of the horror genre that side and back lighting is used to create mystery and suspense, while the lighting in and comedy is bright an is often used to reflect the upbeat, to create vibrant and joyful emotions from the audience.

A list of some of the conventions seen in action films:
Fights, weapons being knives and guns, big city-modern, missing waiting to be completed, hi tech- big machinery, outbursts in settings, up beat nerve racking music, massive destruction, killing, chases, explosions and crashes

Reason for NO Script
Silent action genre. I made my film without  the use of dialogue as my goal was to go against the normal approach with making film. I didn’t include dialogue because i wanted the audience to perceive the film with the use of the codes. After given feed backs from my focus group they was able to grasp the concept of the film and indicated that there were no need for dialogue. However adding some more text to the scene would  help with the sequence in which the scenes was organized.

Megan:  The opening scene definitely give you a sense of a kind of normal every day scenario of the lady shopping and what not. An then it cut to the scene where it is suspense music, something bad is going to happen dark setting where you see the bandit with his mass and gun, had me wondering what is going to happen. Lighting everything was on point where you know it was an suspense, something happening, the fight scene was good to.
Brandon: i like the opening shot, i just find the music at the beginning was a little to much  on the goofy side. but other then that following when coming down to the end the music choices was good, the camera shots was real good and the choreography for the action scene was also good as well and i will able to grasp the concept of the story line again with the black and white imagery and the way in which the scenes played out. the was an overall good for me.
Sacha: I think the film was real real well done. Like that the beginning you can follow, so like you could see the sense like what Megan was saying the normal scene at the beginning of the day and i think adding in that clip you did where you seeing the child that the play ground and the gay come and take the baby then u knew like by she was sitting on you bed sobbing because if you didn’t have that scene you wouldn’t really understand why she was sitting on her bed crying. the scene where the car was pulling off was really good, the over the shoulder  when she was in the grocery was also really good, the scene like when she was up on the balcony when she was editing the room and coming out to fight the gay that was really good. the scene where he actually come inside with the gun and like he run pass the camera that was really good to because you can see him intruding. i think it was really well done, and the music that you chose for each scene fix them really well.
Quite question from Megan: the scene in the play ground as that in colour or black and white?
Facilitator answer: black and white, that was the only black and white scene in the entire film.
Megan: because it was a memory that she was having. Yea
Tamika: i thought mummy was reminiscing, that her daughter or grand daughter was kidnapped. So i didn’t know if it was within that story line, but Sacha say something different but i love the camera shots it actually kind of connect to the story line because most of the time when when you look at kidnapping you does actually get the full image of the of the person or the suspect who committed the crime and i admire that and you actually see the props mass and the gun. so you knew he had something silver in his hand coming to do harm to the grand mother of the mother. Mummy emotions was a little shaky because you know i expected her to kind are be, you know more depressed but i understand  where she was coming from and yea I like it.
Fabio: really well put together, as Brandon said the music that the start as kind a on the goofy side  so i didn’t really expected it to turn out that way. the fight scene with the lady and the intruder was really good, didn’t expect it so i was like granny know to little kung fu, Iwanted to see a little more.
Massie ann: first off your camera shots well really well done. the opening scene i do get to know the different shots of shots used, i get that everyday normality of life kind of vibe. the only thing that i will recommend it that  if you turn the score down a little, because that the beginning so kind are half expected lets say some text to flash across the screen advertising for a grocery you know something. it was a little bit to loud i think, that is why i came off like a commercial ad at the beginning. now the score for the rest of the film was well selected, again go over to the shots given you that idea to what was happening. it was some type of action scene so it was like cut, cut, the editing was faster then you know, it was like medium pace. However also did like the fact, when she was reminiscing the fact that you made the memory gray scale , back and white i think that was a nice touch. in terms of the sequence of the film was a little confusing for me, why am saying this is she is sitting on her bed and she is reminiscing on the child being kidnapped, but then am seeing now she gets up and goes outside to fight someone with a gun that kind of threw me off so i thought if that was to know am not sure if that was suppose to be before the kidnapping or after the kidnapping if i like during the kidnapping but i assume it was not a memory because it was in colour.
Megan: i taught when i saw that she wish she had fought off the person.
Facilitator: ok so the intention was the kidnap scene happened way before the intruder decided to enter her home, so after they kidnapped the child, she is now the next target.
Facilitator : with this film being silent, because there wasn’t any script for it was it clear  and you was able to identify what was taking place with out the have a script?
Target audience: Yes

How I used the codes.
After viewing how the codes in the movie peppermint were used as discussed in my essay, i adapted the use of the codes in order to complete my film. The uses of dark lighting, antagonist wearing dark clothing, props (gun), twist in score from happy to suspense, medium past editing and ending the film leaving the audience to image the outcome is how i went about making my film. With the used of these codes and conventions studied the audience easily understood the genre of the film as well as the intended messages.

Video
This is another assignment given. The importance of this video is not what is being shown, as it is irrelevant from what is being said. The verbal narrative of what is being said is the main focus of this video as it is used to tell a story.

Images of the first attempt
Images from the first attempt i made when making my film. Even through i was able to film most of the scenes on my first try, i do see the importance of a site visits before setting an official date to meeting with group. The site visit help you understand the environment and what is needed, so i take this opportunity and used it as my site visit in order to get better results the second time.

Inspiration
It is always information to do research before stating any project to see what the public already have access to. I gathered some of the movies that have a similar story line. KIDNAP.
Through my research of codes and conventions I was able to view how each film have incorporated the used of camera shots, mise-en-scene, score, lighting, characters, wardrobe and written text.

Planning
One of my main step during my planning process before shooting my video.
STORYBOARD
A story is important because it can be use as a guide when shooting your film and help explain your vision to the characters. It also helps you gather ideas before starting and be useful in terms of organizing each scene. This can also gave you and idea of what their final project will look like.

James Curran
James Curran said “the most powerful message is a simple message attached to an image”.
* The simplest message in polities is a human face.( Personalization ). We all can relate to a human face, because we all have one and it can evoke emotional responses. A product service characteristic trait to a face.
* When doing a news report you could not put someone like Learie Joseph, as he is known for comedy hence the reason people will not believe his statement. This is where TRUST plays a major role.

Fox News- Just do it
After watching Fox news, I observe that is was a attract on Kaepernick. They didn't address the problem of him sitting during the national anthem. Instead they called him ludicrous and smirking during the news broadcast, which to me didn’t make this broadcast credible.

Natural born killers short film
This video were shown in class, and I analyse ONLY 1 minute and 21 seconds of this scene in point form.
These are some of the codes and conventions I identify:
The film starts with and establishing shot to show the audiences the location (kitchen). Written codes (the name of the film). Obscene language were use by the father, as he seem to be drinking alcohol and sexually assaults daughter. Close up shot of daughter to show her emotion (upset and uncomfortable). Extreme close up of father and daughter as this were the only black and white scene which draw attention to the audiences. The family worn colourful clothing.

The 2 types of soundtrack in film
There are two types of soundtrack in film diegetic and non- diegetic. Diegatic is what ever sounds both the viewers and characters are able to hear and  non-diegetic is what sounds ONLY the viewers hear. Both was taken from the literacy term “ diegesis “ which mean a narrative or plot, typically in a film.
