i do spend a lot of time thinking about, like, why do i as a white american (with little connection to the mediterranean) study literature from the ancient mediterranean, and like... i mean at the end of the day the main answer is "well i really like it" and there are lots of reasons i really like it but i also do think there's, like, a purpose to studying it, because it really has been used in so many different ways and made to prove so many points, and studying that and unpacking it is really useful.
