Starter Call - @pareidolah (Haruhi) ☾
Tumblr media
On many levels, Haruhi was the member of the host club Kyoya most related to. They were the most down to Earth out of the bunch, aside from perhaps himself. Not that the twins and Tamaki provided much in the way of competition. Haninozuka-senpai, too. Morinozuka-senpai was third in line, if one were composing a ranking system of such things. In any case, this meant that Haruhi was, themself, one of the better options to ask for the question at hand.
That, and their commoner background, of course.
His question had been a fairly simple one: were there any commoner items they'd seen Tamaki have his eyes on? Any of the simple pleasures that their crowd took part in that may catch the blonde's attention the same way their instant coffee had? He was on the search for a gift, and figured this one avenue to try and exhaust in his search. Even if the only recommendation they had would be another form of a similar coffee, he'd be willing to check it out.
Thus, they'd ended up back at the mall. His memories of their first visit here had hardly been positive. It had been the location where they had made this decision about him that he had more kindness in his heart that he let on, and that this manifested in a tendency to help others, even outside of his personal gain. He'd argued against this at the time, and would continue to do so now. Getting Tamaki such a gift was merely important because of his family, and perhaps to keep the club running smoothly, and nothing more.
“It seems a mall like this truly will let anyone in, won't they?” he asked them, examining the bobbing heads of the crowd as they walked. Exclusivity wasn't a privilege this audience would understand, but it was one he could find himself longing for ever more while lost amongst them. “Once we find an map, we can plot the most direct route to the stores we'll need to visit. The sooner we find it, the sooner we can find a way out.” This was their first task, if they could find a way to complete it with the crowd as it was.

Send 💐 for your muse to give my muse a bunch of flowers!
Tumblr media
꧁⁕༻♕༺⁕꧂ "Kyooyyyaaaaughh! Mon ami~" His voice rang out as he stood in the middle of the Ootori's room with a bouquet of a dozen white roses in his hands; the way he cradled the flowers made the blond look, comedically, like a bride. 💐 "Et voilà~!" He held the roses out toward the third son. His eyes bright and cheerful, and more than excited to share this special day with his best friend. He was so ecstatic, he had to fight the urge to start singing the song.

"Happy Birthday, Kyoya!"
Tumblr media
There would have certainly been a time in his life, and not altogether long ago, that Kyoya would have avoided at all costs sharing his birthdate with Tamaki, out of fear that such a surprise might spark some ire from him. Those days had long passed, however. Besides, it wasn't as if withholding the date would do much of anything. That much was public knowledge. Even if it wasn't, he didn't doubt Tamaki would have found his way to it, through sheer determination, abundant charisma, and a healthy dosage of luck.
Thus, it wasn't terribly surprising to see the blonde today. Even while he had every intention of keeping to himself all day, doing little to celebrate, he was sure that his sister had been more than willing to allow Tamaki in to ensure he had something to lighten the day. Something other than papers to look at.
And what a sight it was: Tamaki clutching a bouquet of white roses close, like a bride at the altar. Kyoya couldn't claim to be too much of an expert on flowers, but he did have some awareness of what they meant. White roses symbolized new beginnings, devotion, or innocence. The latter of these stuck out particularly in his mind with the wide blue eyes that sparkled at him with unabashed excitement.
He stood up from his seat and started over to accept the offering of the roses. “You know, roses aren't exactly a traditional birthday gift. Especially not white ones.” His tone failed to chide at all, as did the smile that came through. He had every intention of placing them in a vase and keeping them close anyway. His biggest regret over receiving them was their temporality. They'd soon wither and die, no matter how well they were cared for. He wondered briefly if he could have one or two pressed, but decided this to be a matter for later.
There was a more pressing matter at hand anyway: that look in Tamaki's eyes. “But I suppose I'll accept them… As long as you don't start singing.”

Fall Prompts:
'How old is 'too old' to go trick or treating?' (Tama @ Kyo 🤍)
Tumblr media
What a Tamaki question that was. How old did one have to be to participate in something that wasn't done in Japan? “I wouldn't know,” he answered first, matter-of-factly. He'd never been trick-or-treating himself, nor did he have any desire to do so now. He was far beyond the age where such a thing would be appropriate anywhere. “I assume the social customs of different countries would determine that.” Something he couldn't claim to have much knowledge of. For as much as he had to review of the cultures of different regions to deal with international business partners and avoid an embarrassing faux pas, he couldn't say he'd ever looked into this question. He found the whole concept of trick-or-treating to be a bit rude, however. Walking up to a stranger's house, knocking on their door, and demanding something of them?
“Trick-or-treating isn't customary here. I'm sure you could take the opportunity to dress up if you'd like.” Many did, though again, this wasn't something he included himself in. He didn't see much of a reason to dress himself up if there was nothing in it for him. Though if it would help the host club's bottom line, perhaps he would consider it. Depending on the costume, of course. “Or you could look into street parties or one of the Halloween trains, I suppose.” He could imagine Tamaki running around one of those and having the time of his life. Neither of those celebrations appealed to him either, however. “Ultimately, Halloween is a promotion for orange and black food dyes and cheap costumes.” A pointless holiday, in his eyes.

“ I'm always here for you ” haruhi @ kyoya
5-Word Sentence Prompts - Accepting ☾
Tumblr media
The host club was full of… interesting people. This was hardly news, nor was it intentional on Tamaki's part. They required a wide variety of hosts to appeal to different demographics, and from Kyoya's perspective, diversifying their assets was important to finding new customers to turn into repeats. That said, of the diverse group they'd gathered together, Kyoya felt that Haruhi was the person closest to him in personality. There was a sense of idealism around the rest of the host club -- Tamaki in particular, but others were hardly exempt from it either -- that Haruhi's rationality helped to ground, just as his own did. This wasn't to say that it was an easy task. It could certainly be difficult sometimes to get them to see reason.
He tended to get the sense that they were on his side. Not solely, of course, but they were willing to back him up when he had to deflate the delusions of grandeur espoused by Tamaki, or an outlandish plan straight from the mind of the twins. What was more confusing to him, then, was that they seemed to want more than that. They didn't only want to be his colleague, but his friend. To get to know him, to see through the facade he held up around those he was less familiar with. Was it an overstep? He'd argue so, but no amount of shutting them out quite seemed to stop it. They were persistent, just as Tamaki had been.
This was yet another example of that. 'I'm always here for you,' a phrase they could say so casually. How did people do that so easily? Towards him, no less? His brows lifted lightly in surprise. No, it wasn't that someone could say these things to him, really, but that certain people could find some way to make him believe it. What was the end goal? Reciprocation? Calling a favor in of him? Asking something of him? For as much as he questioned others and their intentions, there was something disarming about the statement coming from them.
“You say the strangest things sometimes,” was the first reply that left his lips, unable to stop himself from pointing out how strange he found it to be. Yet those very same lips were, before he knew it, etched with a small smile. “But… thank you, I suppose. I may need to call that in the next time Tamaki decides to call for an impromptu club trip.” It was bound to happen sooner or later and, considering the energy with which the blonde had been trouncing around the club room recently, it seemed it would more likely be the former.
