so a little bit about Leithian because she’s my most developed Tolkien OC thus far and I lowkey wanna get her some action from whoever is willing to look past her ‘face’. the icons are so scarce, I’m only going to use them for headcanons, so her interactions are pretty iconless and her face is mostly used for images on biography stuff.
her name is Leithian, which means ‘freedom’ in Sindarin. her parents were one of the couples who were found in the Awakening, and were among the elves who chose not to trust the Valar. they remained behind, having no interest in the promised land they spoke of. so she was born prior to the First Age and before the Sun. she has one older brother who she lost track of after the murder of King Thingol, up until the War of Wrath where they met briefly enough to know he was still alive, and then gone again. she is unwed and childless. she works for her King Thranduil as a chief adviser, as she did for Oropher before him. when the Noldor arrive, she mistrusts them and blames them ( somewhat justifiably ) for most of the things that go wrong.
sort of like a Nimrodel who doesn’t disappear to Eru knows where.
prior to the War of Wrath, it’s near enough to outright hatred. she tolerates their presence, but only if she has to and she has no kind words for them. one particular Noldor lad is able to briefly sway her mind but he is killed in the Great Battle. ultimately this results in a far more tolerating tone thanks to his encouragement, but little more since he didn’t survive to nurture the feeling. still, she’s far more civil with them than she would be beforehand, and has even visited Imladris a few times. something that she would have adamantly refused to do before.
neither of her parents are alive anymore. her mother was abducted and killed by orcs, which drove her brother on a twins-of-Elrond-esque orc revenge streak and that’s when she lost contract with him. apparently elves have a tendency to just up and disappear for no reason. this would have happened some time after the death Thingol ( talk about elves who disappear for insane amounts of time ) and the disappearance of Melian. after that, her father sort of wasted away and gave up like some elves do. her brother goes off on his rage-kill spree while she stays behind to gradually work her way into her position as chief adviser to the King.
and just to be clear, she is not Thranduil’s wife. only an adviser!
