Arthur puts himself between the cutthroat and his daughter, a knife aimed at her heart strikes instead in his stomach, and he coughs blood and he knows the blade pierced to deep. He keeps himself braced, keeps his footing, as he pulls the would be assassin in closer. He carries a short blade himself, a blade that he uses now, not deeming the man as worthy of being slain by Dawn.

Fifteen minutes, he had fifteen minutes left before the stab in the gut killed him if he remembered correctly. Fifteen minutes to say goodbye, fifteen minutes to impart what wisdom he had not yet been able to. Fifteen minutes to prepare his little princess for life without him in it. Fifteen minutes did not feel like near enough time.

“Dany.” he says when he hears her cry, hears her plead. “It will be okay, little one.” He wants to curse the gods for the assassin sent, curses Robert Baratheon, as it was likely his orders and his coin that had sent the catspaw this far into Dorne. “You are safe, that’s what matters.”

Arthur rubs at his face in frustration, and finds himself cursing Allem for telling him the truth of it all. Had he been blissfully ignorant of the blasted truth perhaps he would not have been in this situation at the moment. Perhaps Allyria would not have been able to sniff out that he was lying when he told her that as far as he knew she was his youngest sister. No, Allem had to tell him that Allyria was not their parents’ final miracle child. No, Allem had to tell him that she was Ashara’s, that their beloved sister had been driven to grief on a lie.

“It is, and this is not a conversation that I want to argue on.” he states, a sour taste in his mouth now. He did not want to have this conversation at all, and it was one that Allem should have had with her before his passing. “You are not going to just drop this... are you.”
