A GUIDE FOR PLANTAE!

More info can be found under the cut! Please be sure to especially read the important boundaries at the bottom of the post if you're planning to make your own Plantae character!

🏵️ The planet they live on was given life by a being known as Gardenia. She is the creator of all life in The Garden and is reveled and worshipped as their goddess. It's become trendy to lack belief that the goddess is still present in their world, meanwhile others are devout believers that she is still among them. Small statues can be found scattered around the world that are meant to be shrines to pay respects to her. Occasionally offerings are left at these shrines.

GENDER & CULTURE:

🌸 Their society most commonly has a gender ternary (genderless, male, and female). Non-ternary identities are less common but widely accepted and celebrated just as much (example: Anfisa, who is Genderfluid). They understand that gender is a spectrum, but the ternary is what covers the most common individuals.

🌳 In polite/formal conversation Plantae refer to others strictly with they/them pronouns unless requested otherwise. It’s considered EXTREMELY rude/informal to refer to someone by other pronouns, even if you know what theirs are.

☘️ By default, all Plantae are born sexless. Having spent their childhood in a phase of self-exploration, they are given the option to become physically male or female if they choose to, or they can remain sexless. Pressuring a child to fit into ANY gender is considered incredibly abusive and has been directly punishable by the Goddess herself.

🌺 Gender as humans understand it is a relatively new concept for Plantae, brought on by exposure to other worlds and species. They lack things like sexist gender roles and societal expectations related to them.

🍄 Becoming male-bodied or female-bodied is a choice they’re able to make by being infected by a fungus that alters their physical makeup. It’s viewed as just that, a physical difference. Nothing more.

🌷Plantae are typically given gender-neutral names at birth! Like Makenzie & Devin. They’re encouraged to change that name to something more fitting when they’re older if they want. (Names are, by default, ALL gender neutral to them, but “gendered names” have become a fad in modern times.)

🌱Plantae have the ability to shift between genders freely! Male Plantae have curls on the insides of their horns, females have them on the outside, genderless have no curls at all, and genderfluid plantae have double curls

🎂 They don't celebrate birthdays. An individual's 'birthday' is celebrated on the first day of the season they were born in. For example, Zi's 'birthday' is the Spring Equinox and Devin's is the Summer Solstice.

 🌞 Spring/Autumn Equinox and Summer/Winter Solstice are VERY big holidays for Plantae! Major ceremonies are typically held on these days.

BIOLOGY:

🌹 Most have horns, and those who do typically shed those horns during dormant seasons (winter).

🍃 They have two separate reproductive systems. One similar to humans, one more similar to plants. A seed will appear on a Plantae’s tail and will grow in size until finally dropping off, which is soon followed by a baby seedling emerging from it! All Plantae have the tail-based reproductive system, while the one similar to humans is based off male and female anatomy.

🥀 They live long, long lives and typically remain youthful for most of their lives (as in they stay looking like they’re in their early ADULTHOOD, NOT childhood/teens). When a Plantae dies, their body is placed in a mass grave and their life is celebrated by loved ones.

💐 Plantae grave yards are gorgeous. They thrive with all kinds of plant life, but mostly the plants of those who are buried there. Death is seen as just a stage of life. Not a loss. They’ve given their loved one back to the Goddess to reshape as new life.

🌿 Land Plantae are placed in three subcategories. “Average”, “Toxic”, and “Carnivorous”.

🍈 Plantae can reproduce with Plantae based off different plants than their own resulting in hybrids (Zi and Marsh are both examples of this! Zi is half Clover, half Apple; and Marsh is half Rose, half Venus Flytrap), AND ALSO they can reproduce with other species resulting in half-Plantae hybrids! Cantel is an example of this. Tails and ear tips are still essential.

🌟Body modifications are common! They can range from horn shaping/sculpting/decorating to dyeing parts of their bodies. Piercings are also VERY popular but be aware they heal over VERY quickly if taken out.

IMPORTANT BOUNDARIES

Current Plantae only include land-based non-succulent plants. Succulents and aquatic plants are different subspecies that I have yet to fully develop

Rare mutations (example: 4 leaf clovers, albinism, sentient tails) are EXTREMELY rare! These are typically off-limits without special permission so please ask first!

Plantae do not develop scars and cannot receive body-altering surgeries due to how quickly their bodies heal. Limbs normally regenerate quite fast. They are, however, able to shapeshift certain aspects of their bodies.
