i like the idea that AZ's hands are heavily scarred from the construction of the ultimate weapon.... I think it's very fun when characters are simultaneously very giving and generous, yet selfish and inconsiderate... which is kind of what AZ is to me </3 she's famed for creating machines that unified Early Kalos. Creating such machines and allowing people to freely use them does imply a certain chivalrous generosity- but I don't think AZ was willing to do more than that. He kept his distance, offering his services but not himself- even to those who interacted with him on a daily basis, he was somewhat of a mystery. Being a private person isn't a bad thing, of course, especially when in a position of power. But AZ would essentially be like "Haven't I given you enough? What more could you need?" when confronted with problems that were more complex, that need to have a human touch to be solved. He had no interested in such things (which is part of how his younger brother managed to gain popularity with the people- AZ was terrible when it came to people, but Xanthos was social and genuinely caring). AZ caring for others in a very surface level way is part of what allowed him to create the ultimate weapon later... the destruction caused by it was of no real consequence to him. The two people he did genuinely love and care for- his mother, and now floette- had perished. (he would come to regret this later on and better understand why floette left him after being revived... but it took him no longer being king for that to happen. some time after the war ends he ended up in hoenn, and for some many years he lived as a simple woodcutter...!)

AZ became a monk at some point bc Desire was the root of his hurt and it you're a monk you're expected to shed yourself of your earthly desires. But AZ eventually left the monastery because there was one desire he could not rid himself of (he wanted to see his sister (floette) again)

AZ is trapped in the past in a way where he does not seem to notice the world around him... which is why when Floette returns to him, he sees things that had always been there, and that he simply hadn't noticed before... things such as Nerine 💔

I think that while he's gotten humble over the many years AZ is Very proud of his own intelligence and will sometimes go right into bragging about </3 this gets him judgemental glares from floette of the "boy shut yo ass up" category (nerine gives him that look too when he's with her </3)

I think that Floette's unique colouration is a result of the whole "being revived by the ultimate weapon and made immortal" thing btw she used to look like any other Floette in the past. The flower she carries isn't native to Kalos though, it was originally from AZ's mother's homeland 💔💔💔

an unexpected effect of the ultimate weapon is that it made it so AZ is able to understand the language of pokemon... this is a preface to say that Floette (who, in all technicality, is his older sister) keeps trying to give him bad romantic advice </3 "compliment her taste in pretentious foreign films" or "tell her her most recent review was nuanced yet scathing" etc etc
