     THIS TIMELINE IS DIFFERENT FROM HER OWN. she's constantly discovering just how different with each additional day she's here. trapped, seemingly, though the cell she's spending the majority of her time in definitely adds to the notion of confinement.      killing this timeline's version of herself has caused some unrest among earth's mightiest. and within herself. the majority would have her sit in here and rot, perhaps even subject her to a fate similar to what her heroic mirror image suffered, but it seems a certain captain is fighting for an alternative. all despite the fact that the death imposed on the weaker of the shadowbringers had, in fact, been meant for him instead.

     speak of the hero.

     ❝the all-american hero returns for another futile attempt to make me see the light.❞ violet-tinted irises settle on him from where she sits, leaning her back against the far wall of her cell. ❝maybe you should listen to your friends: your late, great, layden and i aren't the same—she followed the rules, i rigged the game. checkmate, sweetcheeks.❞ it's interesting to see how hard he's willing to fight, but it isn't for her. he's fighting for the person he thinks he knows, the person she killed.

     lips purse as she watches him, hands resting in her lap. ❝how long are you willing to fight a losing battle, cap?❞ the way she says the nickname is entirely meant to mock, to sully every little memory of his friend by souring the words she's likely to have spoken when addressing him ( or any of the others ). ❝the dead don't come back, kid, and you certainly can't replace them. that shit'll fuck up your psyche.❞

let's just acknowledge the fact that villain rayne still has some semblance of morals and there are lines she will not cross. she won't hurt kids, she won't make them witness their loved ones die, and she'll actually go out of her way to attempt to not traumatize kids.

even when she absolutely wants to burn the world down, there's still always this part of her that will have morals and lines she simply will not cross. i love that for her and about her.

     THE STEPS TOWARD HIM ARE CALCULATED, and she knows each movement is being closely monitored. they'll never leave him alone with her and not be watching on cameras just to be certain she doesn't try something given steve's willingness to blindly believe there's something good about her. he'll clue in soon enough.
